President Rashid stresses the need to strengthen the capabilities of the armed forces to confront terrorist threats

Baghdad-INA President Abdel Latif Jamal Rashid stressed on Wednesday the need to strengthen the capabilities of the armed forces to confront any terrorist threats. The President's Media Office stated in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), "President Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid received the head of the Counter-Terrorism Service, Lieutenant General Karim Abboud Al-Tamimi, at the Baghdad Palace." The statement indicated that "the meeting discussed the latest security developments in the country and the role of the Counter-Terrorism Service in promoting stability domestically." According to the statement, Abdul Latif stressed "the need to strengthen the capabilities of the armed forces to confront any terrorist threats," praising "the service's role and great sacrifices in preserving the security and stability of Iraq and all Iraqis." He pointed to "the importance of developing the agency's capabilities and adopting modern studies and research in the field of combating terrorism and extremist ideology ,'for his part, Al-Tamimi expressed his "thanks to the President of the Republic and his appreciation for his directives. He also provided a detailed explanation of the developments in the work of the Counter-Terrorism Service, its security and intelligence efforts, and its future plans aimed at enhancing the security and stability of Iraq."

Shafaq News/ On Saturday, Iraqi security forces foiled three drug smuggling attempts, arresting several individuals. In a 'high-level' operation, Counter-Terrorism Service forces targeted a major drug trafficking hideout in central Al-Nasiriyah, where intense armed clashes broke out with members of a drug gang, ending with the arrest of two suspects, while security forces continue to pursue the remaining individuals, a source told Shafaq News Agency. The security source confirmed the operation is ongoing, without providing further details. Separately, a foreign traveler was arrested after various types of suspected narcotic pills were found in his possession at the al-Shaib and Shalamcheh border crossings in southern Iraq, the Border Ports Authority announced. The Shalamcheh Border Directorate also apprehended an Iraqi traveler in the arrivals hall and seized 2,000 Nimadol pills hidden inside a plastic bag, according to the authority. Official seizure reports were reportedly filed, and the two suspects, along with the confiscated pills, were referred to the competent security authorities for appropriate legal action. On Wednesday, Iraqi police dismantled a 'dangerous' drug trafficking and fraud gang in Baghdad and seized illegal substances along with other contraband.

PM confirms the government's keenness to support the security forces.

Baghdad-INA Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, confirmed on Sunday the government's commitment to supporting the security forces, noting that international assessments of the Counter-Terrorism Service are the best evidence of its standing. The Prime Minister's Media Office said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, participated in an iftar banquet with officers and fighters at the headquarters of the Special Operations Command of the Counter-Terrorism Service during the holy month of Ramadan." Al-Sudani recalled "the heroism and sacrifices of the heroic Counter-Terrorism Service, which was the first nucleus of the Special Operations Command, which carried out qualitative operations that continue to punish terrorists." He praised "the operation in which the Service's forces were able to punish the terrorist known as Abu Khadija, a fact that all security institutions are proud of." The Prime Minister affirmed "the government's commitment to supporting the security forces," noting that "the international ratings of the service are the best evidence of its standing, and our mission is to maintain this status, while remaining prepared and planning to confront the remaining remnants and cells of the defeated ISIS, and to achieve the purpose for which the service was formed, which is to combat terrorism."
