Country music superstars perform chart-topping duet at Boston Calling
The first night of Boston Calling ended with two country music stars sharing the stage for an electrifying duet. Luke Combs brought out Megan Moroney to perform Combs' 2019 smash hit 'Beer Never Broke My Heart.' The song, which was the lead single from Combs' sophomore album 'What You See Is What You Get,' topped Billboard's Country Airplay chart, becoming Combs' sixth consecutive No. 1 on the chart. 'Beer Never Broke My Heart' has been certified six-times platinum by the RIAA as of August 23, 2023. The performance marked a full-circle moment for Moroney as the self-proclaimed 'Emo Cowgirl' appeared as an unpaid extra in the song's music video back in 2019, Combs told the crowd. Moroney also told fans about it during a VIP pre-show at a May 15 concert at the Amory in Minneapolis, Country Chord reported. The 'Am I Okay?' said her best friend drove her to Nashville so she could appear in Combs' video. 'If you literally look at the Spotify canvas, I even made it into the 8 seconds,' Moroney told fans. 'I was supposed to be the drunk girl at the bar, so I was holding up a fake beer.' The 'Tennessee Orange' singer can be seen around the 2:20 mark of the video. Moroney shows up a few more times as well. Combs' closed out night one of Boston Calling on Friday, May 23. Josh Ross Scores His First Top 10 ‘Single' on Country Airplay Chart, Morgan Wallen's ‘Problem' Persists at No. 1
Singer-songwriter Josh Ross, 30, from Waterdown, Ontario, achieves his first top 10 on Billboard's Country Airplay chart as his first entry, 'Single Again,' pushes 11-10 on the list dated May 31. The song increased by 10% to 16.6 million impressions May 16-22, according to Luminate. The track is from Ross' eight-song set Complicated, released in March 2024. It hit No. 2 on the Canada Country chart last October, becoming the fifth of his six career-opening top 10s. More from Billboard U2's Bono Calls for Hamas to 'Release the Hostages, Stop the War' During Ivor Novello Awards Speech Rob49 on Viral Stardom, 'Let Me Fly,' Collab Album With G Herbo & Making Music With Justin Bieber Preston Cooper on Offering Genuine Strength in 'Weak,' His First Radio Release Ross co-authored 'Single Again' with Joe Fox and Brad Rempel, and Matt Geroux produced it. (Fellow Canadian Rempel is a member of the group High Valley, which has notched 20 top 10s on Canada Country, in 2012-24.) Notably, 'Single Again' reaches the Country Airplay top 10 in its 60th week on the chart, wrapping the third-longest trip to the tier since the survey launched in January 1990. In April 2023, Brett Young's 'You Didn't' reached its No. 10 high in 70 weeks, while Chase Matthew's 'Love You Again' hit No. 10 in 62 frames (before peaking at No. 9). Morgan Wallen's 'I'm the Problem' tops Country Airplay for a sixth total and consecutive week (31.7 million, down 1%). It became the third No. 1 from his album of the same name, ahead of its release May 16, following 'Love Somebody' (three weeks in February) and 'Lies Lies Lies' (one week, November). His latest single being promoted to country radio, 'Just in Case,' rises 15-13 (14.8 million, up 8%). 'I'm the Problem' is the third of Wallen's 17 Country Airplay No. 1s to reign for six frames or more, after 'You Proof,' which shares the record for most time on top (10 weeks, 2022-23), and 'Last Night' (eight weeks, 2023). Five total cuts from I'm the Problem are scaling Country Airplay, with the title track and 'Just in Case' followed in the top 40 by 'I Ain't Coming Back,' with Post Malone (43-32; 2.9 million, up 48%). The other two debut: 'What I Want' featuring Tate McRae (No. 55; 897,000), and 'Superman' (No. 58; 846,000). All charts dated May 31 will update Wednesday, May 28, on (one day later than usual due to the Memorial Day holiday May 26). Kenny Chesney Is One Hit Away From Making History
Kenny Chesney has spent decades racking up dozens of hits in the country world, all of which have collectively made him a true superstar. He has long ranked among the most successful names in the history of the genre, and he never stays away from the Billboard charts for long. The icon collects a new hit on multiple rankings this week. As he returns alongside one of country music's hottest newcomers, he inches closer to a milestone that only a handful of superstars will ever come close to. Chesney joined Meghan Moroney on her new single, "You Had to Be There." The tune is expected to serve as the lead single from her forthcoming third album. The track reaches three of Billboard's country-only tallies this week. As it arrives, it pushes Chesney closer to a major milestone. "You Had to Be There" is Chesney's ninety-ninth hit on both the Hot Country Songs and Country Airplay charts. The track opens at No. 23 on the radio list and No. 25 on the all-consumption ranking, which blends sales, streaming activity, and radio airplay to show which country tunes are the most popular in the U.S. If Chesney can collect just one more win, he will reach 100 smashes on these two tallies. He's all but certain to make it to that number at some point — whether in a few weeks or years from now — as he remains one of the top hitmakers in the genre. "You Had to Be There" narrowly breaks onto the Country Digital Song Sales chart as well, launching at No. 15. It also earns Chesney his milestone sixtieth placement on the Hot 100. On that tally, which doesn't look at any one form of consumption or any one style, the collaboration opens at No. 86. Included in Chesney's 99 Hot Country Songs wins are fifty-five top 10s and twenty-three No. 1s. The singer-songwriter claims the most rulers of all time on the Country Airplay list with 33. He beats both Tim McGraw and Blake Shelton, who jointly sit in second place with 29 apiece.

Chappell Roan's New Single Finally Earns Some Love From The Country Genre
Chappell Roan surprised many of her newer fans earlier this year when she returned with more music. The singer, who was recently named Best New Artist at the 2025 Grammy Awards, dropped the single "The Giver," which didn't sound like anything she'd ever shared before. The track leaned more into country than her previous efforts, while her debut album, The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, is pure pop. The cut was a quick success on several of Billboard's country rankings, but there was one list that eluded the title — until now. Roan's latest offering debuts at No. 60 — in last place — on the Country Airplay chart. That tally ranks the tunes that reach the largest number of listeners via country radio in the U.S. Perhaps more than any other genre, radio still matters in the country world, and it's usually how longlasting hits are made. The fact that "The Giver" has finally landed on this roster suggests that gatekeepers in that space are beginning to take notice. "The Giver" was released in mid-March, so it took two months to appear on the Country Airplay tally. Such a delay would be unusual for superstars already established in the genre. It's particularly noteworthy that the cut took so long, given Roan's high-profile Grammy win right around the time the track dropped. For her first single after that triumph to only just sneak onto the Country Airplay ranking — and in last place — indicates a substantial and sustained promotional push behind the scenes. There may have been some hesitation from programmers and DJs in the country genre when it came to embracing the newcomer. That's often true in the country space, and may especially be so when concerning one who might not align with the more conservative values held by many country radio listeners. While "The Giver" is only just starting on the Country Airplay chart, it has already proven to be a major hit on several of Billboard's other country rankings. The tune previously peaked at No. 1 on the Hot Country Songs, Country Streaming Songs, and Country Digital Song Sales tallies earlier this spring. That means it reached the top spot on every one of Billboard's country song rankings, except for radio, where it's only just managed to appear, and in the lowest position, at that. It seems Roan's fans — and perhaps country music listeners more broadly — were far quicker to embrace the cut than those in charge of spinning it on the air. Before reaching country radio, "The Giver" was adopted by several pop formats. The single rose to No. 28 on the Pop Airplay chart and No. 32 on the Adult Pop Airplay tally, and it's still present on the former this time around.

Chappell Roan Sweeps The Country Charts, Owning (Almost) All Of Them
Chappell Roan's 'The Giver' debuts at No. 1 on three Billboard country charts, despite being her ... More first release in the genre—and a massive Hot 100 entry at No. 5. PARIS, FRANCE - MARCH 09: Chappell Roan attends Valentino "Le meta-theatre des intimites" show as part of Paris Fashion Week on March 09, 2025 in Paris, France. (Photo by Vittoriofor Valentino) Chappell Roan continues to earn her status as one of the hottest new hitmakers in the music industry — and not just in the pop world, where she's been building a passionate fanbase for years. The rising star scores a trio of wins that would be impressive for any country act, let alone someone who, until now, had never released a country single, or even really been considered part of the genre. Roan's brand new single 'The Giver' blasts onto three Billboard country rankings this week. The singer-songwriter doesn't just sneak in or even debut inside the top 10 — she starts at No. 1 on all of them. 'The Giver' launches at No. 1 on the Hot Country Songs chart, the most important and competitive ranking in the genre. That roster blends data from sales, streams, and radio airplay to identify the most-consumed country tunes in the U.S., and right now, Roan's new single stands above all. The song also conquers both the Country Streaming Songs and Country Digital Song Sales rankings. That means it's not only the most-played country track on platforms like Spotify and Apple Music, it's also the bestselling composition in the genre in the nation this week. With 'The Giver,' Roan earns her first No. 1 on each of those three country-focused tallies. It's also her first appearance on any of them, which makes this triple win even more notable. Plenty of musicians have crossed over into country in recent years, but few have done so with such immediate success. For an artist who hasn't marketed herself as country in the past, Roan's instant dominance is nearly unprecedented. Despite leading in sales and streaming, 'The Giver' doesn't appear at all on the Country Airplay chart. That's not a small oversight, either. The Country Airplay list is Billboard's largest radio-specific chart, tracking 60 songs each week. In other words, even though 'The Giver' is the most-consumed, bestselling and most-played country song in the United States, it doesn't currently rank among the 60 most popular at country radio. Whether that's due to her pop origins or simply the speed at which the song is spreading, the absence is glaring, though not necessarily surprising. Many crossover tracks take weeks, if not months, to make a dent in radio rotation, especially at country stations. 'The Giver' isn't just a country win, it's a national smash. The single debuts at No. 5 on the Hot 100, giving Roan her third top 10 hit on the all-genre list of the most-consumed songs in the U.S. The cut also opens at No. 2 on the Digital Song Sales chart and No. 4 on the Streaming Songs tally, meaning 'The Giver' is one of the bestselling and most-streamed songs in America this week, across all genres.
