Cops will be out in force to manage the parade, while South Lanarkshire Council has warned drivers to expect serious disruption between 1pm and 3.30pm and are advising people to use alternative routes. Coaches could clog up Swisscot Avenue as participants get dropped off before the march begins. Meanwhile, Almada Street and Beckford Street will be shut during the event, adding to the traffic turmoil. Huge Orange Walk to take place in Hamilton this weekend
South Lanarkshire Council (SLC) said traffic on several roads in the town will be disrupted amid the march. The parade, organised by the County Grand Lodge of Central Scotland, will take place on Saturday, July 5. It is expected to kick off at around 1pm and finish at 3pm. It will start at Meikle Earnock Park and end on Beckford Street. The council said around 6,500 people are expected to take part in the Orange Walk. In addition, there will be road closures on a section of Swisscot Avenue where coaches will drop off participants before the parade, Almada Street between Caird Street and Bothwell Street from 1.30pm until 3pm, and Beckford Street, which will reopen by 3.30pm. The route is as follows: Meikle Earnock Park. Neilsland Drive. Meikle Earnock Road. Annsfield Road. Strathaven Road. Low Waters Road. Portland Place. Gateside Street. Quarry Street. Brandon Street. Leechlee Road. Cadzow Street. Muir Street. Almada Street. Beckford Street. A spokesperson for SLC said: "Significant disruption and delays are expected in Hamilton Town Centre during the parade. "Road users should allow extra time for their journey and consider alternative routes where possible. "It is estimated that around 6,500 people will take part in the parade."
