Free July events: Shakespeare on the Common, Art on the Plaza, plus the Moth Ball
The Boston Landmarks Orchestra will perform free concerts every Wednesday through Aug. 27. Penguins vs. Flyers at Wells Fargo Center The Philadelphia Flyers and the Pittsburgh Penguins have been heated rivals since 1967. From the Broad Street Bullies to the Sidney Crosby era, this Key Stone State rivalry has lived up to the hype. Although the teams are at the bottom of the Metropolitan Division, catching a Flyers game the day before an Eagles Super Bowl doesn't seem too bad. The 23-26-1 Flyers are on a five-game losing streak, losing to the Washington Capital in their last outing despite two goals from Matvei Michkov. The puck drops at 7 p.m. at the Wells Fargo Center for the next rendition of this in-state rivalry. Tickets start at $59. Villanova vs. Xavier at Wells Fargo Center Sunday at 6:30 p.m. feels like forever, and sometimes it's easier to stay busy than let the anxiety of waiting for the Super Bowl build up. But for now, there's a little relief. Villanova basketball is back in action Sunday at noon, facing off against the Xavier Musketeers in a Big East matchup. Xavier currently sits just above Villanova in the middle of the conference standings, making this an important game for both teams. Tickets are available starting at just $10. Rothman Orthopaedics Ice Rink at City Hall Nothing says Hallmark quite like an ice skating adventure around the holidays. Lucky for us, the Rothman Orthopaedics Ice Rink at Dilworth Park is open for the season through Feb. 23. Skaters are encouraged to book their sessions online in advance. Ticket sales are limited in person. You can also BYOIS (bring your own ice skates) and just pay the admission charge. Winter fun in Franklin Square Stop by Franklin Square for several winter wonderland activities, including the Electrical Spectacle, a light show featuring music and thousands of colorful lights that run every 30 minutes from 5 p.m. to closing time. Franklin Square also offers games like Chilly Philly Mini Golf and Street Curling. And, of course, what winter wonderland is complete without a seasonal sweet treat and cocktail?
