Edinburgh police issue appeal after Ferry Road collision

Road policing officers are appealing for information following a crash involving a pedestrian and the driver a car on Ferry Road last night. The incident happened around 6.35pm on Friday, 30 May, 2025, and involved a blue Land Rover Discovery. The pedestrian, a 7-year-old boy, was taken to the Royal Hospital for Children and Young People for treatment. His injuries are serious but not described as life threatening. The driver was uninjured. The road reopened around 11.15pm following further investigation. Sergeant Fraser Mitchell said: 'Our enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of this incident, and I would urge anyone with information to come forward. 'I am also keen to speak to any drivers who were in the area at the time and may have dashcam footage which has captured something of significance.' Anyone with information is urged to call Police Scotland on 101 quoting reference number 3229 of 30 May, 2025. 30/5/2025 7 year-old knocked down by driver of car on Ferry Road Edinburgh. Damage to Dundee City Square steps sparks call for 'strenuous measures' on vandalism

Damage to steps at Dundee City Square has sparked a call for 'strenuous measures' to tackle vandalism. Concrete steps leading from the square to Crichton Street in the city centre had been broken and chipped at the weekend. This forced the closure of the walkway while repairs were carried out. Councillor Craig Duncan, who represents the Broughty Ferry ward, believes the damage was deliberate. 'I don't think that was in any way accidental and it must be vandalism,' he said. 'The day before (at the VE Day parade) I went down these steps and they were in normal, good order. 'You want people to come into the city centre but that is a dreadful look. It's off putting for people coming here. 'For anyone who cares about Dundee, images and appearances matter.' The Liberal Democrat councillor has previously been vocal about the 'depressing' graffiti in the city centre, saying it undermines efforts to attract people to the area. And he says those behind the latest damage need to be held account. He added: 'It's going to cost a fortune to the tax payer as well. 'I have suggested that apart from obviously fixing it and making it safe, they should try to identify who did it. Is there CCTV perhaps?' He added: 'I don't think the council should take the attitude that when these things happen, they fix it and that's okay. 'There needs to be strenuous measures to identify who does these things.' A Dundee City Council spokesperson said: 'The damage was reported to the council on Monday morning. 'Repairs have been completed at the location and the walkway reopened mid-day on Tuesday.'

Fauldhouse fire still burning

An area of forest at Fauldhouse was still ablaze at midnight on Saturday, twelve hours after it first took hold. On Saturday SFRS confirmed that fifty firefighters on the ground and a crew in a helicopter were fighting the wildfire. Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) advised on 6 May that there was 'a very high to extreme risk of wildfire is in place across areas of Scotland from tomorrow until Monday, 12 May'. In advance of this incident SFRS warned that 'wildfires have the potential to burn for days and devastate vast areas of land and wildlife and threaten the welfare of nearby communities'. SFRS Wildfire Lead Michael Humphreys said: 'We are asking the public to exercise extreme caution and think twice before using anything involving a naked flame. 'Many rural and remote communities are hugely impacted by wildfires, which can cause significant damage. 'Livestock, farmland, wildlife, protected woodland and sites of special scientific interest can all be devastated by these fires – as can the lives of people living and working in rural communities. 'These fires can also have a hugely negative impact on the environment and the release of greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere. 'Human behaviour can significantly lower the chance of a wildfire starting, so it is crucial that people act safely and responsibly in rural environments and always follow the Scottish Outdoor Access Code.' Police Scotland said: 'Emergency services are in attendance at fires in the Lanrigg Road, Fauldhouse, near Whitburn. 'There have been no reports of any injuries, however, as a precaution, officers are advising local residents in the Heartlands, Armadale and Whitburn areas to keep their windows and doors closed as they deal with this incident. 'Police were called to the scene around 12.30pm today, Saturday, 10 May 2025. 'Please avoid the scene whilst emergency services are dealing with the incident.' Fable is delayed until 2026, but Xbox Game Studios head says: "It's definitely worth the wait"

When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. The Fable reboot, initially scheduled to release some time this year, has been delayed to 2026. "We are actually going to give Fable more time," Xbox Game Studios head Craig Duncan says in a new episode of the Official Xbox Podcast. "While I know that's not maybe the news people want to hear, what I want to assure people of is that it's definitely worth the wait." Playground, the Forza Horizon developer, has already made "quite frankly, the most beautifully realized version of Albion you've ever seen," the Xbox director continues. "I have unequivocal confidence in the Playground team. If you think about their history and legacy for Forza Horizon – the last two games critically acclaimed [...], award-winning, beautiful, played great." Xbox first revealed Fable in 2020, but it's been reticent about sharing more details about the action RPG – the first game to join the irreverent fantasy series in nearly two decades – since then. Fable didn't even get a full trailer until 2023, though Duncan shared fresh pre-alpha footage during his Official Xbox Podcast appearance, calming the sting of Fable's delay a little bit. The new clips show off Fable's lush, flower-spotted environments and dynamic sword combat, and Duncan adds that the game's quests, boss battles, and magic all "felt amazing" during his hands-on time. "Genuinely beautiful," he says, "It's very real. Everything you're seeing here is very playable. [...] Take my word for it." "There are no bigger fans of Fable as a franchise [than] the Playground team that are making it," Duncan continues. "It's a really fun balance between, what are the game tenets that are true to Fable? And what's some modern day reimagining of what is Playground Games' version of Fable?" Fable's reboot remains shrouded in mystery – but that's the most exciting thing about it.

Xbox has delayed its Fable reboot until 2026

Microsoft is delaying one of the major first-party games it had lined up for 2025. The company said during its big annual Xbox showcase last June that its Fable reboot would arrive this year. But that's no longer the case as Xbox has pushed back the fantasy RPG to 2026. "We previously announced the date for Fable as 2025. We are actually going to give Fable more time and it's going to ship in 2026 now," Craig Duncan, the new head of Xbox Game Studios, said on the latest edition of the Official Xbox Podcast. "While I know that's not maybe the news people want to hear, what I want to assure people of is that it's definitely worth the wait." The reboot, which is being developed by Forza Horizon studio Playground Games, was announced all the way back in 2020 and there have been a few teasers since then. While the delay might be disappointing to those who have been waiting for Fable — especially since it's been 15 years since the last mainline game in the series — Xbox can afford to give it a little more time. Microsoft's games division has a pretty healthy slate for the coming months. Avowed only just came out, the promising South of Midnight is not too far away and then Doom: The Dark Ages and its ridiculous shield-saw is slated to arrive in May. The Outer Worlds 2 and Ninja Gaiden 4 are also on the docket for this year, and there are likely others in the pipeline (such as the inevitable annual Call of Duty entry). That's not to mention all the third-party titles coming to Game Pass and Microsoft selling more of its games on PlayStation and Nintendo platforms. So Xbox is probably going to be okay while Playground keeps Fable simmering away. Duncan claims that the studio is crafting "the most beautifully realized version of Albion you've ever seen" but with its own spin and British humor. The Xbox Game Studios chief visited Playground to play some of Fable and see how things were going. Duncan brought back some new, early footage to show on the video version of the podcast, which you can see below starting at 15:55. Even the pre-alpha versions of these environments look very pretty, so here's hoping Playground makes good use of that extra time to make the most of the game.
