Pro bodybuilder Craig Licker dead at 57 as sport experiences its latest tragedy
The pro bodybuilding community said goodbye to another one of its own following the death of Craig Licker. Licker, a Massachusetts native, died earlier in the week, according to multiple reports. The 20-year IFBB pro began his career in 1995 with the Niagara Falls Pro Invitational and the Houston Pro Championship, and after a short bodybuilding sabbatical, returned in 2015 to place 12th in the Chicago Pro and 16th in the Tampa Pro. 'Craig had a really gifted structure and discipline for bodybuilding. If you told him to eat dirt; he'd ask you 'how many oz?'' 'Craig and I both were BMW fanatics .. he had a tuned-to-the-max BMW M3 and I had an M5… we spent ludicrous amounts of money on upgrading our cars and we'd race each other and talk 'car shop' all the time,' he continued. 'I will miss our always interesting conversations and his great sense of humor … RIP my friend!' The news of Licker's death adds to a growing list of bodybuilding deaths in recent months. Jodi Vance, 20, died of what her family believed to be 'severe hydration' in March, while Vittorio 'Vito' Pirbazari, 44, a star of Netflix's 'Dog of Berlin,' reportedly suffered a fatal heart attack while running on a treadmill in April.

Although the full details of his cause of death have not been publicised, Licker has nevertheless received tributes from fans, fellow sportsmen and women, fitness fans and those he inspired across the globe since his death, noting the impact he had on the sport. Craig Licker's journey in pro bodybuilding Craig Licker actually started climbing the competitive bodybuilding ladder back in 1994 when he won Middleweight at the NPC Nationals. Back then, pro cards were so rare, it was a huge accomplishment and put Licker on the map as an up-and-coming name in bodybuilding. This win granted him his IFBB Pro card, and shortly after, he made his professional debut in 1995 at the Niagara Falls Pro Invitational and Houston Pro Championship. The events above ended his professional stage career but highlighted his enduring passion and dedication. Outside the stage, Licker had a career in the fitness industry, where he was a leading salesman for Species Nutrition in New England during the early 2010s. As well as his competitive accomplishments, he became well known for his strong work ethic and motivational presence within the fitness community. Friends and colleagues describe Licker as a talented athlete with a stoic style, a jokester, a person who spread joy wherever he went and made all of us better for it. Another prominent bodybuilder has died as the worrying trend continues to plague the sport. According to reports on social media, former pro bodybuilder Craig Licker has died at the age of 57. Licker won the middleweight title at the 1994 NPC Nationals, and no cause of death has been reported for his passing.
