Field Of Gold ‘in great order' for Sussex Stakes test
Prior to those runs he has narrowly denied in the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket and was the winner of the Craven, a superb run of form that leads neatly into the Sussex and very much makes him the horse to beat. 'He's been a grand horse to train, he's done nothing but thrive this year,' said Gosden. 'We've been pleased with his progress all the way through. 'The Sussex is a different test of a horse. If you've ever walked the track, it's quite a surprise, it runs down into a dip, swings up and around. 'You don't want too big a field and a high draw because you are literally down the hill looking at the horses getting the shortest run round up the hill, so the draw is a big factor there if you get a large field. 'The horse is athletic, he's got great balance, and hopefully he'll handle the track well. It's very different to the round mile of Ascot or the Curragh, that's for sure. 'He's in great order, and we're looking forward to running him. It's very much the obvious race to go to for him.' Field Of Gold could be joined by Lockinge Stakes winner Lead Artist, who proved his suitability for Goodwood when taking the Bonhams Thoroughbred Stakes at this meeting last year and is also owned by the Juddmonte operation. Gosden said: 'He's in great form, we'll see if he runs, no decision on that yet. 'He bowled along there last year and won in good style. We're not sure if they'll both run at this stage, we're a little far off from the race yet.' Gosden, who trains alongside his son, Thady, will have plenty of other headline runners at the Goodwood fixture, with French Master and Sweet William both going for the Al Shaqab Goodwood Cup. Successful in the Copper Horse Handicap at the Royal meeting, French Master will be up in trip and class, but Gosden said: 'We're hopeful he'll run a good race. He did a little breeze with Sweet William, there wasn't much between them, nicely on the bridle, looking after each other. Sweet William was a neck up, actually.'

Country Thunder Saskatchewan 2025 sees police respond to over 150 calls for service
An RCMP vehicle is parked beside a Saskatchewan Marshals vehicle near the festival grounds for Country Thunder Saskatchewan. (Courtesy: Saskatchewan RCMP) Police officers in and around this year's Country Thunder Saskatchewan festival in Craven were hard at work it seems – as the RCMP reports its members responded to a total of 156 calls for service. 'The sheer volume of people at events like this means that we expect more calls for service, and venue campgrounds mean we have a greatly increased population in the area. Saskatchewan RCMP plans extensively for this to help ensure everyone remains safe,' RCMP S/Sgt. Kent Ashworth said in a statement to CTV News. Over the course of the four-day event from July 10th – 13th, officers laid four criminal impaired driving charges, two assault charges and one mischief charge related to property damage inside the festival grounds. Police also issued 40 roadside driving suspensions. The RCMP weren't the only police force at the festival, as the newly formed Saskatchewan Marshals Service provided traffic control during the event. 'I would like to thank everyone who worked together to keep attendees of this event and local residents safe,' Ashworth added. This year's total marks a slight increase from previous years. In 2024, RCMP responded to 147 calls for service during the four-day festival. A total of 33 people were taken into custody, and six criminal code charges were laid that year. In 2023, police responded to 105 calls for service, taking 26 people into custody. This marked a decrease from the year previous, when 126 calls were recorded.

Resilient fans return to Country Thunder Saskatchewan despite hot, smoky weather
Fans pushed through not ideal weather patterns at Country Thunder Saskatchewan in Craven. (Sierra D'Souza Butts/CTV News) Country Thunder Saskatchewan has seen a large turnout during its four-day run, despite less than ideal weather conditions. 'We're having so much fun. I love it here. It's really hot out, though,' shared Ashlyn Duchek, one of the thousands who attended the festival's final day. Even with scattered rainfall and smoky conditions, fans continued to stroll around the campgrounds, beer gardens and food court throughout the weekend. 'When I wake up in the morning it's really hot. I wish the wind was helping, but it's definitely hot,' Andie Downes added. 'It's been pretty hot, but as a whole, the festival has been really fun and all the performances have been really good,' added Downes' friend, Jasmine Klein. Despite the muggy weather, Klein said the event has been fantastic thanks to the lineup of musicians – with Def Leppard set to take the stage Sunday evening. 'I think with their type of music, they can put on really good shows and it can be really fun even if you don't know the music,' she said. 'So, I'm excited for it.' Organizers estimated this year's festival would attract around 20,000 fans over the course of its four-day run.

The Valke, Griquas and EP also recorded wins on Thursday. Jordan Jooste of WP hangs on to the ball in his team's match against the Sharks. Picture: Sydney Seshibedi/Gallo Images Western Province and Eastern Province claimed derby wins on the fourth day of the U18 Craven Week at Hoërskool Middelburg on Thursday. WP maintained their perfect record at this week's tournament after downing the Sharks 45-13, while EP proved too strong for Border in the Eastern Cape derby, running out 30-12 winners. Earlier on Thursday, the Valke and Griquas secured their first wins of the competition when they beat Boland and the Leopards respectively. The first quarter of the match between WP and the Sharks was fiercely contested, with the Sharks stretching the WP defence and wing Jadrian Afrikaner touching down for a hard-earned try. WP hit back with tries by centre Markus Muller and prop Matthew van der Merwe, while flyhalf Ethan van Biljon slotted a penalty goal on the stroke of half-time to boost his team's lead to 11 points. Province continued to dominate after the break, and went on to finish with six tries in an emphatic 45-13 win, with the impressive Muller bagging a brace. The last round of matches will be played on Saturday, with WP taking on South Western Districts in the final match of the tournament. Free State will play the curtain-raiser to the 'final' when they go up against the Sharks. In all, eight matches will be played, on the A and B fields.
