Dublin rental causes outrage over 720€ bed... to share with random man
In the latest damning indictment of the current housing/renting system in the country, an advertisement for a horrifying living 'arrangement' has caused outrage. A post was shared to the Rent in Dublin Facebook page, being posted by a user 'on behalf of a friend' who was perhaps too ashamed to advertise such a 'property'. The post offered a €720 a month listing where you would be expected to share a bed. Not a room, but a bed. The apartment, which admittedly is well furnished, appears to drop in the tidbit as if it were no big deal (despite the fact that such a detail is grim at best, illegal at worst) and was shared by Ciaran from Crazy House Prices — who said that this is yet another symptom of the ongoing housing crisis. 'This is a really grim symptom of a completely broken housing system in Ireland, but especially Dublin,' he wrote in the caption, adding in the video that these listings are unfortunately all too common on unregulated Facebook groups, as they'd be considered illegal sublets on other, more legitimate, sites. 'These Facebook groups are an absolute cesspit for things like this,' Ciarán said. 'This is down to decades of really terrible government housing policy. This is a symptom of those policies that are leaving everything up to the private sector and the vulture funds and all that kind of stuff.' As for the poor lad who's sharing the full (soon to be half) bed in the first place, Ciarán said that he wouldn't be the one to blame — saying 'I doubt the fella on the other side of the bed either wants to be paying 720 quid a month to rent half of a bed in Dublin, but this is where we're at. The market is just completely broken, and this is a symptom of it.' The post was shared to the Rent in Dublin Facebook page. People were horrified at what was being proposed, but others were a little less surprised — with one commenting 'Quite common (sadly) in student lets!' 'Shocking! One of the richest countries in the world and the government can't get fair access to affordable and safe housing,' another wrote. Others found a bit of comedy in this utter tragedy — with one commenting 'Does it mention whether you need to be the big or little spoon? Asking for a mate,' while another added, 'he better be buying dinner first.' The post was shared to the Rent in Dublin Facebook page. This is the latest in a number of properties to rent that are proof that it can, in fact, get worse — and it's spreading outside of the capital, after an apartment in Clare being advertised for nearly €2,000 a month had a few convenient pull out beds for 'a few extra people' — with people being able to put two and two together.

Galway rental causes outcry over 'bedroom'
The rental market has been plagued with landlords chancing their arm, and desperate tenants being forced to cough up hundreds, if not thousands, of euros a month for the 'privilege.' And then, of course, some take the cake — whether they're sheds being advertised for nearby hospital workers for €800 a month, or alleged studio apartments that were 'smaller than a parking space' for €1,100. However, one listing in Co Galway (which has since been taken down) has been shared for all the wrong reasons: as its 'bedroom' is just an attic space that most people would struggle standing up in, at any height. Pic: The listing, which was on the market for a 'bargain' of €1,200, had a bedroom that was accessed via Stira-style stairs into the space that would even have a hard time describing itself as an attic, but has a mattress and two pillows in it, and not much room for anything else. How you're meant to access the bedroom — with the property being listed as 'wheelchair accessible.' Yes, really. Pic: After being shared by Crazy House Prices and the Galway Subreddit, people were shocked at the listing being a damning indictment of the ongoing rental and housing crisis. Pic: 'We really don't bully landlords enough,' one person joked, while others pointed out that the property is listed as 'wheelchair accessible,' despite one of the bedrooms needing to be accessed via the ladder. Others pointed out that the bedroom, as well as the listing in general, is illegal — with one saying 'It's absolutely not legal, not up to fire regs in any way shape or form. Insufficient head room and there is no way it has planning permission.' 'Every room needs natural AND artificial light-so that 'bedroom' doesn't qualify,' another pointed out, while another added 'breaches Building Regs because of safety. Walk away and report it to the fire dept. and planning dept. You might save someone's life if there is ever a fire.' This latest outrageous listing comes as another listing, in Waterford, was shamed for being advertised for €800 a month; with many pointing out that it was being rented to people who were working at the nearby Waterford University Hospital.

Outrage over 'someone's garden' on the market for eye-watering amount
A site in Galway has sparked a strong reaction online after it was advertised as on sale for the price of some houses altogether. The site, which is being advertised in Renmore, does admittedly have full planning permission alongside a mock up of what it may look like once completed; but for now, it's just a garden on the corner of a road. Comparatively, other properties in Renmore range in price from €370,000 to a massive €650,000. The home on top is what it will look like once it's completed… but the bottom is what you'll be paying €295k for before even laying down a brick. Pic: The site was shared by Crazy House Prices, who said on his Instagram that it's '€295,000 just to buy someone's garden in Galway' — with people shocked at the price of what will be a home… after buying materials, paying builders… you get the picture. 'Its funny but some desperate soul will sadly buy this,' one person commented, while another added 'that is MAAAD…' Others had jokes about the hedge, with one commenting 'is the money they earn from this sale gonna be called hedge funds?' while another added 'mature hedge: €295,000.' The property comes as another home in Dublin caused a stir online; as it was advertised for a massive €12,500 per square metre.
