Liam Gallagher gives update from French bolthole as Oasis tour rehearsals begin
Liam Gallagher and his brother Noel Gallagher are furiously rehearsing for the upcoming Oasis Live '25 Tour which begins in the UK in July and will keep the boys on the road until late November Liam Gallagher has decamped to France to continue preparing for the upcoming Oasis tour. Fans were stunned last year when hell froze over and Liam, 52, buried the hatchet with older brother Noel Gallagher, 57, to announce they would be back as Oasis and touring in 2025. Fans now have just a few more weeks before the brothers are scheduled to kick off their Oasis Live '25 Tour which will begin in Cardiff on 4 July. The band has been rehearsing for weeks as the countdown to their 41 date tour continues. Liam has been relaxing in France on the Côte d'Azur - but has seemingly been keeping himself busy by brushing up his music skills as he prepares to take to the road. On Saturday, Liam took to Instagram to share snaps from his European retreat. He shared a selfie of himself wearing a pair of sunglasses alongside a caption stating: "Lols." While on his stories, he shared a snap of the outside of a house with his guitar propped up beside the door. He wrote alongside the romantic image: "Spiritual vibrations for the whole nation" and signed off with his initials. Liam and Noel famously fell out in 2009, bringing their band to an explosive end. However, they thrilled fans last summer when they announced they had reunited and would tour as Oasis once again. Earlier this month, details emerged of a new book about the brothers which proves they "still really love each other". In The Fall and Rise of Oasis by PJ Harrison, the author quotes an industry insider from Oasis music label Creation discussing the reunion tour and the Gallaghers patching up their differences. She said: "It doesn't matter what the wives or the girlfriends say or what anyone else says. You will never understand the dynamic of those two boys. Ultimately, you do still really love each other." The insider also says Liam was the one that made peace with Noel in order for the reunion tour to happen: "He's a great one for making, you know, peace. He's the one that will make the peace and bring things back together with people." Liam has previously said he made the first move. Asked on X, formerly twitter, who called first him or Noel, Liam replied: "I called him but don't tell anyone as I don't want folk thinking I'm a soft lad and stuffs keep it between me n you cheers x." Meanwhile, it was revealed earlier this month that keyboard player Christian Madden had joined the lads to be a member of their live band. The first photos of the band leaving rehearsals in London were published on Saturday. It showed Noel, Paul 'Bonehead' Arthurs, Gem Archer and Andy Bell who will play guitars in the massive sold out gigs, with Andy on bass. But the report wrongly identified another man at the studios and we can reveal his name now for the first time. Christian Madden has played with both Gallagher brothers making him an ideal addition for the tour. He has mainly played on Liam Gallagher solo tours but has also played alongside Noel in the past, sources close to the band said.

Himanta Sarma criticises Indira Gandhi for ‘mishandling' the creation of Bangladesh
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday criticised former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi for her "mishandling" of the situation following the creation of Bangladesh after India's historic 1971 win against Pakistan. In a post on X, Sarma alleged that due to the failure of the political leadership of that period, the creation of Bangladesh was a "historic opportunity lost". The CM's long post comes in the wake of Congress leaders' criticism of Prime Minister Narendra Modi after US President Donald Trump on Saturday claimed that India and Pakistan have agreed to a "full and immediate" ceasefire after US mediation. India and Pakistan on Saturday reached an understanding to stop all firings and military actions on land, air, and sea, with immediate effect. Several opposition leaders have also compared Modi with Gandhi's handling of the Indo-Pak war in 1971. Sarma titled his post as 'The Myth of Bangladesh's Creation: A Strategic Triumph, A Diplomatic Folly'. "India's 1971 military victory was decisive and historic. It broke Pakistan in two and gave birth to Bangladesh. But while our soldiers delivered a stunning battlefield success, India's political leadership failed to secure lasting strategic gains," he said. The creation of Bangladesh is often hailed as a diplomatic triumph, but history tells a different story, he claimed. "India's military triumph in 1971 was not matched by strategic foresight. What could have been a new regional order was reduced to a one-sided act of generosity. Had Mrs. Indira Gandhi been alive today, the nation would have questioned her for mishandling the decisive victory won by our armed forces. "The creation of Bangladesh was not a bargain — it was a historic opportunity lost," Sarma said. Presenting a set of six explanations in support of his allegation, the CM said the creation of Bangladesh was a secular promise, but it has become an "Islamic reality". "India supported a secular Bangladesh. Yet by 1988, Islam was declared the state religion. Today, political Islam thrives in Dhaka, undermining the very values India fought to protect," he added. Talking about alleged persecution of Hindus in the neighbouring nation, Sarma said the minority community was once constituted 20 per cent of Bangladesh's population, but it has now dwindled to under 8 per cent on account of 'systematic discrimination and violence', which continued and became a "shameful reality that India has largely ignored". "The Chicken's Neck Left Exposed... Despite military dominance, India failed to resolve the vulnerability of the Siliguri Corridor. A secure land corridor through northern Bangladesh could have integrated the Northeast — but no such arrangement was ever pursued," he added. Referring to the perennial immigration issue, the Assam CM pointed out that no agreement was reached for the mandated return of illegal Bangladeshi migrants. "As a result, Assam, Bengal, and the Northeast face unchecked demographic change, sparking social unrest and political instability," he added. Sarma also claimed that India did not secure access to the strategic Chittagong Port, and even after five decades, the Northeast remains landlocked. He also alleged that insurgents found a refuge in Bangladesh, and for several decades, the neighbouring country served as a base for anti-India militant groups and exploited the vacuum India failed to close in 1971. "Conclusion: A Victory Undone by Silence," Sarma said.

King Charles and Prince William not to attend Pope Leo XIV's inauguration — But who's representing royal family?
Buckingham Palace has confirmed that a member of the royal family will represent King Charles at the highly anticipated inauguration mass of Pope Leo XIV on May 18 at St. Peter's Square in Vatican City. While many had expected the King or his heir, Prince William, to attend the momentous event, the royal family has made a noteworthy change in its plans. Instead, it will be Prince Edward, the Duke of Edinburgh, who will step in to carry out this significant duty. A spokesperson from Buckingham Palace revealed, as per People, that Prince Edward, 61, will attend the ceremony in place of King Charles, 76, and Prince William, 42, who will not be present. This marks a rare occasion where the responsibility of representing the monarchy at a major religious event is handed to Prince Edward, signaling his increasing prominence within royal duties. King Charles had already sent his heartfelt well-wishes to Pope Leo XIV, the first-ever American pope and the 267th pontiff of the Roman Catholic Church, ahead of the ceremony. This will not be the first time that a royal has represented the British monarchy at an important event in the Vatican. Just last month, Prince William attended the funeral of Pope Francis, stepping in for King Charles at a ceremony typically attended by the heir to the throne. In 2005, King Charles had represented his mother, Queen Elizabeth, at the funeral of Pope John Paul II, continuing the royal family's tradition of supporting the Vatican in times of sorrow. King Charles, who had met with Pope Francis earlier in April, expressed profound sadness following the death of the beloved pontiff on April 21. 'My wife and I were most deeply saddened to learn of the death of Pope Francis,' said King Charles in Buckingham Palace's official statement. The King praised Pope Francis for his unwavering commitment to unity within the Church and his lifelong dedication to the common causes of all people of faith. 'His belief that care for Creation is an existential expression of faith in God resounded with so many across the world,' King Charles remarked, further acknowledging the pope's remarkable efforts to make a positive impact on both people and the planet.

Prince Edward to represent King Charles at Pope Leo XIV's inauguration
Prince Edward will represent King Charles at the inauguration of Pope Leo XIV. The Duke of Edinburgh will travel to the Vatican on behalf of the royal family for the new Pope's formal installation as pontiff at a mass in St Peter's Square on May 18. Edward, 61, will be joined by global leaders for the ceremony to mark the official start of Pope Leo XIV's tenure as the head of the Catholic Church. King Charles sent a private message to the Pope congratulating him on his election as he expressed "most sincere good wishes for his Pontificate". The new pontiff, who was formerly known as Robert Prevost, is the first American-born Pope in history and called for the Catholic Church to "desperately" try to remedy a lack of faith in his first Mass at the Vatican on Friday (09.05.25). In an address delivered in Italian, the Pope said: "A lack of faith is often tragically accompanied by the loss of meaning in life, the neglect of mercy, appalling violations of human dignity, the crisis of the family and so many other wounds that afflict our society." The pontiff warned that people have been turning away from the church in favour of "technology, money, success, power, or pleasure". He also echoed the calls of his predecessor, the late Pope Francis, in calling for peace around the world. He said: "Help us, and each other, to build bridges through dialogue, through encounter, to come together as one people, always in peace." Prince William had attended the funeral of Pope Francis on behalf of the King last month, after the monarch led tributes to the religious leader after his death at the age of 88. Charles, who had met the late pontiff with his wife Queen Camilla just weeks before his passing, said in a statement: "My wife and I were most deeply saddened to learn of the death of Pope Francis. Our heavy hearts have been somewhat eased, however, to know that His Holiness was able to share an Easter Greeting with the Church and the world he served with such devotion throughout his life and ministry. "His Holiness will be remembered for his compassion, his concern for the unity of the Church and for his tireless commitment to the common causes of all people of faith, and to those of goodwill who work for the benefit of others. "His belief that care for Creation is an existential expression of faith in God resounded with so many across the world. "Through his work and care for both people and planet, he profoundly touched the lives of so many. "The Queen and I remember with particular affection our meetings with His Holiness over the years and we were greatly moved to have been able to visit him earlier in the month. "We send our most heartfelt condolences and profound sympathy to the Church he served with such resolve and to the countless people around the world who, inspired by his life, will be mourning the devastating loss of this faithful follower of Jesus Christ. Charles R."

Here are 3 projects East Valley residents should know
Two industrial projects and one townhome community are underway in the East Valley, all of which are expected to be completed in 2026. LG Energy Solutions is building a battery manufacturing facility in Queen Creek, with the goal of producing cylindrical batteries for electric vehicles. The company predicted the facility will bring thousands of jobs to the area. A 15-acre plot near Warner Road and Hardy Drive in Tempe will be home to a 144,885-square-foot industrial park. The spot was previously used for an office building, a commercial garage, outdoor storage and RV parking. A luxury townhome community in Scottsdale is being built a few hundred yards west of the Indian Bend Wash Greenbelt. The developer said the community is focused on sustainability with less costly energy bills. Here's what East Valley residents should know about the projects. A 144,885-square-foot industrial park is being built on a 15-acre plot near Warner Road and Hardy Drive in Tempe. It is being developed by Phoenix- based Creation and Boston-based CrossHarbor Capital Partners. The development will include 6 acres of yard space for storage or vehicles. One structure in the park will be built before a business has signed on to lease the space. Construction is expected to be completed in mid-2026. Construction is underway on an electric vehicle battery manufacturing facility near Ironwood and Pecos roads in Queen Creek. LG Energy Solutions is expected to hire 2,800 employees. The company commenced training its launch team members at a new workforce training center, which was established under Arizona's Future48 Workforce Accelerator program, in partnership with the Arizona Commerce Authority, Pinal County, and Central Arizona College, it stated in a news release. The company said the project was halfway completed in April. The plant is expected to begin production in mid-2026. The southeast corner of 78th Street and San Miguel Avenue will be home to the Paloma, a 6-unit luxury and custom townhome community that focuses on sustainability. The homes are 3,000 square feet each, with two-car garages, 3 bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms. The backyards will have pools, hot tubs and cabanas. Developer Ed Gorman said it will be "the first net-zero energy ready luxury home community in Scottsdale." Monthly energy bills are expected to be 50% to 70% lower, he said. Construction is anticipated to finish in August 2026, and residents are expected to start moving in fall 2026. Like this story?
