New Addams Family animated feature film being developed
Wednesday creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar are creating a new animated Addams Family feature film. The two showrunners of the Netflix series are developing an Addams Family reboot for Amazon MGM Studios which will be unconnected to Wednesday - which stars Jenna Ortega as Wednesday Addams - and the previous two animated films released in 2019 and 2021. Gough says his and Millar's inspiration is to honour the characters created by late American cartoonist Charles Addams, which were turned into a popular TV series in the mid-60s. Speaking on Deadline's Crew Call podcast, Gough said: "We're working on it with Amazon MGM and with Kevin Miserocchi who runs the Addams Foundation, he knew Charles Addams and the keeper of the Addams flame, and with Gail Berman and John Glickman. We're rebooting the animated film franchise. So it won't have anything to do with the two films before it, nor is it connected with this show. It will be a brand new Addams feature. There's not really much we can say about it, because it's in the very early stages.' The 1960s series about the macabre family - who first appeared in a cartoon strip in The New Yorker magazine - starred John Astin as patriarch Gomez Addams, Carolyn Jones as Gomez's wife Morticia Addams, Jackie Coogan as Uncle Fester, Ted Cassidy as Lurch, Lisa Loring as Wednesday Addams and Ken Weatherwax as Pugsley Addams. The Addams Family has also appeared in a 1973 animated series, a remake series which ran from 1992 to 1993 as well as several feature films, including Barry Sonnenfeld's 1991 live action movie.

Wednesday creators plot animated Addams Family reboot while teasing season 2 secrets
Fans of Wednesday Addams are in for a double dose of dark delight. Creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar have revealed that they are working on an entirely new animated Addams Family movie for Amazon MGM Studios. In a recent Crew Call podcast appearance, the duo described the project as a complete reboot of the animated film franchise, unrelated to either the Netflix hit series or the previous two animated films. The pair are collaborating with Kevin Miserocchi of the Addams Foundation, who worked closely with original Addams Family creator Charles Addams, alongside producers Gail Berman and John Glickman. While still in the early stages, the aim is for the movie to hit theaters, with Gough noting that it will be a fresh take on the macabre clan. Fans hoping for crossover appearances from Jenna Ortega's Wednesday may be disappointed, as the creators stressed there will be no direct connection to the Netflix series. Gough and Millar also discussed the process of crafting Wednesday season 2, which had been delayed by the writers and actors strikes. They emphasized that writing for Wednesday means staying true to her worldview rather than simply chasing punchlines. The character, they say, approaches mysteries not out of a sense of justice in the traditional sense, but because she resents being misled and champions underdogs. They teased that season 2 will continue to explore Wednesday's growth, forcing her to confront shades of moral grey rather than relying solely on her razor-sharp one-liners. The creators hinted that while Wednesday is no ordinary young detective, her stubborn pursuit of truth will again place her in darkly comic and dangerous situations. Between the highly anticipated second season and the bold leap into a reimagined animated film, Gough and Millar are keeping the Addams spirit alive in more ways than one.

How Wes Anderson Devised ‘The Phoenician Scheme' – Crew Call Podcast At Cannes
Oscar winner Wes Anderson returns to Deadline's Crew Call to shed some light on his writing process and how he came up with The Phoenician Scheme, a project he first started breaking around the time of his second Cannes premiere, 2021's The French Dispatch. He was looking for an Anthony Quinn type to play the notorious, yet lovable European magnet, Zsa-zsa Korda, and knew the star of French Dispatch, Oscar winner Benicio del Toro, was the guy. At a time when many want more films to be shot in the U.S., sometimes, given the Euro nature of Anderson's films, that's not possible. He almost shot Asteroid City in Texas, however, the locale didn't prove to be convenient for the crew; the filmmaker always is looking for a location which can also accommodate his crew. The last movie he shot stateside was his first Cannes premiere, 2012's Moonrise Kingdom, which was lensed in Rhode Island. Phoenician Scheme reps a return to form for Anderson when it comes to the absurdist family comedies, this one loosely inspired by his father-in-law. In the movie, Korda, who is under constant assassination watch, reigns in his estranged daughter, wannabee nun Leisl (Mia Threapleton). He needs an heir and unloads to her a slew of shoeboxes with pieces of his remaining business plans. Anderson discloses here that his wife went through a similar situation; her father looping her in on his master shoebox plan before his death. Anderson's third movie with Focus Features after Moonrise Kingdom and Asteroid City, hits limited NYC and L.A. theaters on May 30 with a wide break on June 6. The pic at 76% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes looks to emulate the specialty box office success of 2023's Asteroid City which grossed north of $28M stateside. David Mamet On Return To Cinema With Self-Distributed ‘Henry Johnson', State Of The Industry & J.K. Rowling-Inspired Play He's Writing For Rebecca Pidgeon
We kick off the 2025 summer season of the Crew Call podcast with a candid, wide-ranging conversation with Pulitzer-winning playwright and two-time Oscar nominee David Mamet. Mamet has directed a new movie, Henry Johnson, his first in 12 years, based on his 2023 play that premiered in Venice, CA. The pic, which is self-distributed and available to rent digitally, follows the title character (played by Mamet's son-in-law, Evan Jonigkeit), who after helping a friend out becomes collateral damage and complicit in his sex crime affairs. This leads Henry Johnson to jail. He looks to authority figures he encounters along the way including his eventual cellmate, Gene (Shia LaBeouf). Henry's journey leads him down a road of manipulation and ethical uncertainty. 'Anyone can make a movie and distribute it and take their chances,' says Mamet. 'Your chances of people seeing that movie are not less than your chances of going to offices in Hollywood for 10 years to convince some f*cking idiot to look at your work.' Also, it's been a while since we've seen Mamet pen a big studio movie, ala his previous event movies such as The Untouchables, Hannibal, The Verdict and Ronin. Why? Well, when studios want to hire Mamet, they have to follow his rules: 'Give me a lot of money and feel free to f*ck it up of which I'm going to hell, or give me enough money to get the movie made, have me submit my director's fee and leave me alone. Both of these things were acceptable. Only one of those things were normal, but both them were acceptable.'We also chat about the buzzed-about female stage version of Glengarry Glen Ross ('We did a reading a few years ago, Rebecca Pidgeon played Ricky Roma, and Felicity Huffman played Shelley Levene); his Harvey Weinstein-inspired play Bitter Wheat and why it never made it to Broadway ('Broadway has become very, very problematical, and it was the height of the woke insanity and the thought of doing a comedy about guy who was a libertine, as if Moliere never existed, was thought not quite the thing), and what he really thinks of the now incarcerated mogul. Also, what's next: 'I'm writing a play for Rebecca about these two women who need to kill J.K. Rowling. Ayo Edebiri, Lionel Boyce have co-written an episode for 'The Bear' season 4
(Picture Courtesy: Facebook) "The Bear" stars Ayo Edebiri and Lionel Boyce are co-writing an episode for the upcoming fourth season of the hit comedy-drama show. The actor, who plays sous-chef Sydney Adamu to The Bear executive chef Carmen Bearzatto (series lead Jeremy Allen White ), made her directorial debut with the season three, episode six "Napkins" of the Hulu series. Edebiri -- winner of the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series at the 2023 Primetime Emmy Awards -- kept the details under wraps in an interview with entertainment outlet Deadline's Crew Call podcast. The show follows Carmen 'Carmy' Berzatto (White), a young award-winning chef who returns to his hometown of Chicago to manage the chaotic kitchen at his deceased brother's Italian beef sandwich shop and gradually transforms into a fine-dining restaurant called The Bear with the help of his family, friends and new recruits, including Sydney. The season three ends with Sydney at the crossroads when she receives an offer to work at a rival restaurant as The Bear grapples with tough times. Boyce plays Marcus, one of the chefs at The Bear and The Original Beef on the show. He was nominated for Best Supporting Actor Comedy Series at the Emmys last year for "The Bear". The fourth season is expected to be ready sometime in June.
