'Given Youngsters A Platform To Perform': Jemimah Rodrigues Credits WPL For...

Last Updated: Jemimah Rodrigues praised the Women's Premier League for boosting newcomers' confidence and noted changes in preparation for the 2025 ICC Women's World Cup. With just 50 days remaining until India hosts the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup 2025, middle-order batting star Jemimah Rodrigues remarked that the Women's Premier League (WPL) has significantly boosted the confidence of newcomers in the team. Rodrigues highlighted the example of 22-year-old pacer Kranti Gaud, who emerged as the leading wicket-taker in India's 2-1 ODI series win in England with nine wickets, including a six-wicket haul. 'What the WPL has done has given youngsters a platform to perform and get into the Indian team. There's not as much pressure as on international debut. In this team, we see that. We look at Kranti (Gaud), she's fearless. That attitude is so nice to see that it pushes each one of us," Jemimah said at the '50 Days To Go' event in Mumbai. What Did Jemimah Rodrigues Say? Recalling her early days as a budding cricketer, Jemimah Rodrigues shared her memory of going to the airport to welcome and support the team, vividly describing the enthusiasm that greeted their return. 'I remember all these people, they were tired and at the same time disappointed, because they were so close, and yet it felt so far. They walked out of the airport thinking nobody was going to be there. And I can tell you that at 5:30 in the morning, the whole airport was packed with a crowd. People right now would think that that's normal. But at that time, for women's sport, it wasn't. I remember this whole bunch of players coming in and going back, because they weren't expecting it," she added. As for the tournament itself, Rodrigues noted that there has been a significant change in the Indian women's cricket team's attitude when it comes to preparations. 'A lot has changed with my preparation and mindset. I want to have a lot of confidence coming from my preparation and that gives me clarity," said Rodrigues. India will launch their Cricket World Cup 2025 campaign against Sri Lanka at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on 30 September. 'Did Pahalgam terrorists join BJP?' Thackeray questions lack of arrests

Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) Chief Uddhav Thackeray on Monday questioned the arrest status of the terrorists who carried out an attack in Jammu & Kashmir's Pahalgam valley, killing 26 civilians. 'Did the Pahalgam terrorists join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)? Where are they now, and why haven't they been caught yet? Or is it another case of 'Washing Powder BJP'?' said the former Maharashtra chief minister while addressing a press conference in Mumbai. Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) proxy, The Resistance Front (TRF), had earlier claimed responsibility for the attack, but later declined any involvement. The government agencies are yet to arrest any of the terrorists who carried out the attacks. On the… — Press Trust of India (@PTI_News) July 7, 2025 Referring to the recent announcement of the International Cricket Council's (ICC) Women's Cricket World Cup 2025 schedule—where the Indian team is set to play against Pakistan on October 5—he said, 'Now don't they (BJP) feel ashamed to play games with Pakistan?' India recently revoked the suspension of Instagram accounts of various Pakistani celebrities, which were banned after the Pahalgam attacks, but the government later clarified that it was due to a technical glitch. Shiv Sena (UBT) has long supported the view that Pakistani artists and sportspersons should be completely banned from India. On the language controversy, Thackeray said: 'We are not against any language. We are against its forced imposition.' He further argued that if Hindi is imposed as the third language in Marathi-speaking regions, then what would be the third language in Hindi-speaking northern states such as Uttar Pradesh? Earlier in June, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that hooliganism in the name of language will not be tolerated in the state, after a group of men wearing Raj Thackeray-led Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) scarves thrashed a food stall owner for not speaking Marathi in Thane's Bhayander. On Saturday, the two Thackeray cousins, Uddhav and Raj, shared the stage after 20 years to oppose the three-language policy under the New Education Policy.

Pak women's cricket team have raised their game remarkably in recent months and are confident about making impact at this year's ICC World Cup. PHOTO: AFP Pakistan women's team booked a spot in the Cricket World Cup 2025 after a brilliant run in the Qualifier earlier this month. While India is the official host of the upcoming tournament, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has confirmed that the national women's team will not be traveling to the country. "Pakistan's participation in the next global competition would adhere to the Fusion Formula [the same structure decided upon before the ICC Men's Champions Trophy 2025]," Mohsin Naqvi said. Ahead of the World Cup 2025, Pakistan women's team player Aliya Riaz sat down with Sidra Amin and Shawaal Zulfiqar for a chat on the PCB podcast. The trio discussed their qualification for the tournament set to be hosted by India and their preparation for it. "Appearing in the World Cup is quite a challenge," Shawaal Zulfiqar said when asked about her preparation. "Big teams appear in it. We've done camps, and we'll continue doing them. So we'll grow and it will be beneficial to us. We are hopeful of doing well," she added. Sidra Amin emphasised the importance of preparation and adaptability to the conditions they would encounter in the tournament. "We'll plan it series by series. The bigger an event, greater the pressure, so we'll work on things we can control. We are practising well, we'll bring an improvement on that. We have to adapt ourselves to the kind of wickets we have," she said. The Pakistan women's team batter said that the side will plan with the idea that their games will be in Asian conditions in mind. "So we'll have to plan our shots, rotation of strike accordingly," Sidra Amir added. Sidra topped the batting charts for Pakistan in the ICC Women's CWC Qualifier 2025, scoring 225 runs from five matches at an average of 45, including three half-centuries. Nida Dar opts out of cricket amid mental health struggles Nida Dar of Pakistan during the 3rd Women's Metro Bank ODI between England and Pakistan at The Cloud County Ground on May 29, 2024 in Chelmsford, England. - AFP Former Pakistan women's cricket team captain Nida Dar has announced a temporary break from cricket to focus on her mental health. The seasoned all-rounder took to social media late Thursday to share her decision, citing the toll that recent personal and professional events have taken on her well-being. "I would like to inform that alot of things have happened in the past with me personally and professionally and this has affected my mental health. For this reason I am taking a break for a while from cricket to focus on myself. Please respect the privacy. Thank you. #respect," Dar posted. The 38-year-old has been a stalwart for Pakistan, featuring in 130 T20 Internationals and 99 One-Day Internationals. She was recently part of the training camp for the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup Qualifier in Faisalabad, having been included among the 19 shortlisted players. However, despite returning to training, Dar was not selected in the final 15-member squad after failing to meet the required fitness standards. Subsequently, she also opted out of the upcoming National T20 Cup, choosing instead to step away from competitive cricket altogether for the time being. Meanwhile, the Pakistan women's team recently secured qualification for the upcoming ICC Women's World Cup, slated to take place in India later this year. They concluded an impressive campaign at the ICC Women's World Cup Qualifier in Lahore with five consecutive victories, including a seven-wicket win over Bangladesh in their final match on April 19 at the Lahore City Cricket Association (LCCA) Ground. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi praised the women's team for their successful campaign during a visit to the LCCA Ground. However, he reiterated the PCB's stance that the national women's team will not travel to India for the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup, aligning with the "hybrid model" that was implemented ahead of the ICC Men's Champions Trophy earlier this year. "Pakistan will not travel to India, as this formula has already been agreed upon," Naqvi said during his visit.
