1 2 Patna: From cracking down on heinous crimes to seizing illegal liquor and firearms, Bihar Police reported a strict enforcement drive between Jan and July 2025. In this seven-month period, over 54,900 accused were arrested, convictions were secured in more than 46,000 cases, and fines totalling over Rs 14.6 crore were imposed on traffic rule violators. The drive also saw large-scale execution of warrants, preventive actions against lakhs of people, and major seizures of narcotics, liquor and arms, said additional director general (law and order) Pankaj Kumar Darad, while addressing a press conference on Monday. He said execution of warrants and other legal orders was robust, with 234,366 summons, 171,561 bailable warrants and 189,932 non-bailable warrants issued from Jan to June 2025. Darad said, "A total of 1,300 criminals were identified for possessing assets acquired through illegal means, with property attachment proposals against 280 of them already submitted to the court. Following this, the court initiated proceedings to seize the assets of seven criminals. Under section 3 of the CCA (Crime Control Act), proposals against 1,662 people were sent to the district magistrates, resulting in orders against 339. Furthermore, under Section 12(1) of the CCA, detention orders were issued against eight criminals, with more actions underway. Further strengthening moves to maintain law and order, 5,174 people were arrested for instigating communal violence, attacks on police, mob violence, and indulging in celebratory firing in the seven month period. He said following strict order against celebratory firing, such cases have come down. "In the checking drives during the period, over eight lakh vehicles were checked, and fines of over Rs 14.6 crore collected. Additionally, seizures of illegal substances and weapons were made, including 91,684 litres of country-made liquor, 64,506 litres of foreign liquor, 159 firearms, 1,018 cartridges, and 941.857 kg of cannabis," he added.
