A 16-year-old motorcyclist has died following a two-vehicle collision in Thorold, Saturday. According to Niagara Regional Police, the crash occurred shortly after 10 p.m., near the Merrittville Speedway in the area of Holland Road and Merrittville Highway. The crash involved a 2017 Dodge Caravan, driven by a 41-year-old Thorold woman, and a 2014 Ninja Kawasaki motorcycle, operated by a 16-year-old St. Catharines male. The teenager sustained life-threatening injuries as a result of the collision. He was treated by Niagara emergency medical services paramedics and firefighters before he was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said the circumstances surrounding the cause of the collision remain under investigation. The fatality is the latest in a series of recent serious crashes, which involved motorcycles on Niagara's roads. A two-vehicle crash on Thorold Stone and Dorchester roads June 12 claimed the life of a 22-year-old man. 3 masked males sought after Wainfleet's lone bank robbed at gunpoint

Three masked and hooded suspects robbed a bank in Wainfleet using at least one handgun and a weapon similar to a machete. A news release said Niagara Regional Police responded to Meridian Credit Union on Highway 3 at 4:35 p.m. Thursday. Police said three people entered the bank, just east of Wainfleet Township Hall, while brandishing weapons. One suspect had a handgun and another carried an edged weapon similar to a machete, said the release. Detectives are investigating whether a second firearm was used during the robbery. The robbers received an undisclosed amount of money before fleeing the bank. They got into a white Honda Civic, which police believed to be stolen, before heading north on Highway 3. No bank employees or customers were physically harmed during the incident, said the release. Meridian Credit Union is the only bank in Wainfleet. Police arebelieve the males who robbed Meridian Credit Union in Wainfleet Thursday fled in a white Honda Civic. All three suspects were similar in appearance and described as male, with thin builds, wearing dark clothing with hoods, skeletal masks and gloves. Witnesses said the suspects spoke with accents. $50K in jewelry stolen during teen house party in Ontario

Niagara regional police are investigating after approximately $50,000 in jewellery was stolen from a St. Catharines, Ont., home earlier this year. On April 10, police say officers responded to a home in the area of Read Road and Lakeshore Road following a report of a theft. Police say the homeowner had recently returned after being out of the country to discover several expensive pieces of jewelry had been stolen from the home. The investigation revealed that a family member had hosted a party at the residence on Feb. 22, which was attended by several youths aged 16 to 18. Police say it is believed the theft occurred during that event. Police are asking area pawnshops and jewellery stores to remain vigilant and to contact police immediately if anyone attempts to sell suspicious or high-value items matching the description of the stolen property.
