National Croissant Day 2025: Burger King's special breakfast deal, plus other freebies
When it comes to pastries, the croissant stands out as unique. Whether you're a constant or occasional consumer of croissants, Thursday, Jan. 30, is a good day to celebrate the pastry because it's National Croissant Day. Several food stops including Burger King have croissant specials. The annals of food history records the croissant's predecessor, the crescent-shaped "kipferl" bread as being served in France in 1839, according to the Institute of Culinary Education. But it wasn't until French chef Sylvain Claudius Goy swapped out brioche dough for layered yeast dough that the pastry got its beloved flaky texture in 1915. In recent years, there've been croissant hybrids including the cronut (croissant crossed with donut) and crookie (croissant and cookie). These days, you can find croissants nearly everywhere, beyond bakeries to fast-food restaurants, convenience stores and supermarkets – and, of course, Costco. Need a break?
