Pokemon With Surprisingly Dark Backstories

Pokemon is a treasured, core childhood memory for many, whether they grew up playing the game on Game Boy or DS, reading the manga on Coro Coro Comic or collecting cards and plushies. Each Pokemon has its own backstory, and they range from adorable tales to grandiose myths (imagine pitting Eevee against Arceus, a literal god, in a battle). Hidden among these are some pretty unsettling backstories, too. Here are some of the alarmingly disturbing stories behind Pokemon, which may ruin your childhood. List of Contents: Drifloon: The Child-Stealing Balloon Cubone: The Orphan Who Wears Its Mother's Skull Yamask: The Ghost Who Remembers Its Human Life Parasect: The Mushroom That Killed Its Host Bewear: The Deadly Hugger Gengar: Your Haunting Shadow Kadabra: The Kid Who Turned Into a Pokémon Related Posts Drifloon: The Child-Stealing Balloon Drifloon looks like a sweet, innocent, purple balloon with a tuft of clouds on its head, but don't be fooled — it's a literal ghost that targets children. According to the Pokédex, its head is filled with lost spirits of people and Pokemon, and it tries to grab kids by the hand and float away with them, presumably to the afterlife or some nightmare realm. The only reason it hasn't become a full-blown public safety issue is because it's too light to pull most children very far. Still, being five years old and having your balloon try to murder you would be quite traumatic. Cubone: The Orphan Who Wears Its Mother's Skull Cubone has one of the most heart-wrenching stories in the entire franchise. Called the Lonely Pokemon, Cubone is often found crying in isolation — which is understandable, seeing as it wears the skull of its dead mother on its head. It cries so often that the sound echoes inside the skull, creating a haunting wail that's particularly loud and eerie on the night of a full moon. Crying even in its sleep while dreaming of its deceased mother, Cubone is a sad, small dinosaur in eternal mourning. Yamask: The Ghost Who Remembers Its Human Life Yamask is not just a ghost-type Pokemon, but the ghost of a former human being. Theorized to be based on the Egyptian concept of ba , the human soul, it floats around carrying a mask that used to be its old human face, and sometimes stops to stare at it and cry. This Pokemon not only died but retained self-awareness after death, and now spends eternity as a sad specter-spectator. Parasect: The Mushroom That Killed Its Host At first glance, Parasect looks like a crab with a big red mushroom on its back. The mushroom, however, is a parasite that has completely taken over its host's brain and body, and the Pokemon is actually being eaten from the inside. You can see the evolution from Paras, a cute crab with two small mushrooms on its head, and how the fungus has hijacked its system, leaving it a hollow shell. By the time it becomes Parasect, its eyes have gone blank, and the mushroom is the one controlling the body. Bewear: The Deadly Hugger Pink, fluffy and oddly friendly, Bewear looks like a teddy bear. But don't let its cuteness fool you: Bewear is considered one of the most dangerous Pokemon of the Alola region. This thing is freakishly strong and has a habit of hugging its trainers so hard it breaks their spines. Those who encounter a wild Bewear and unknowingly wave back at it might end up being hunted down for a murderous hug. Gengar: Your Haunting Shadow Gengar is a ghost-type Pokemon that took the 'ghost' part too far. According to the Pokédex, it steals heat from your body and makes rooms feel colder when it's nearby. In Pokemon Journeys: The Series , Gengar has a very Hachiko-like story: Its previous trainer, thinking Gengar had cursed him, abandoned the purple Pokemon, promising to be right back. While waiting for three years, Gengar continued to scare away anyone who came his way, growing more embittered by the day. Thankfully, he eventually meets Professor Cerise and Ash, who are able to soften his wounded heart. The shadowy stories of Gengar continue, with many fan theories suggesting that Gengar is Clefairy's shadow, ghost or even doppelganger, given the two Pokemon's similar shapes. Kadabra: The Kid Who Turned Into a Pokemon One of the most unsettling Pokédex entries belongs to Kadabra, who wasn't always a Pokemon. According to official lore, he was once a young boy with psychic powers who was helping out with research into extrasensory abilities. One morning, he woke up to find that he had turned into Kadabra, a fox-like, spoon-wielding psychic being. Kadabra's origin story is presumably based on Franz Kafka's novella The Metamorphosis , where a salesman wakes up one day transformed into a large insect. Hearts Break for Puppy Found on Road Side With Part of Skull Exposed

Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. A puppy who was left for dead on the side of the road has broken hearts across the internet. The 2-month-old puppy, named Cubone, was discovered alone with severe facial trauma. Her skull was exposed, and her tiny body was crawling with fleas. Her rescuer feared she may have been thrown from a car. Cubone was rushed to a veterinarian on May 30, where euthanasia was initially considered the only option—until someone reached out to Austin Pets Alive!, the animal shelter that is now caring for her. Approximately 607,000 animals were euthanized in shelters in 2024—a decrease of about 2 percent from 2023, according to the ASPCA. Luckily, Cubone was given a second chance. Newsweek spoke to Luis Sanchez, an Austin Pets Alive! spokesperson, he said: "So far, she has settled in well." Cubone can be seen sitting in her enclosure and lying down. Her facial injury has been blurred. Cubone can be seen sitting in her enclosure and lying down. Her facial injury has been blurred. Austin Pets Alive! "She is super quiet, but she is slowly coming out of her shell. She currently finds a place to hide when I let her out of her crate or room to roam around, but she loves being held," he said. Cubone's prognosis remains guarded due to the open wound on her head. Veterinarians are continuing her treatment plan, which includes hydrotherapy and medication. They will reassess her progress at the next check-up to determine if the wound can be closed. "She has been tolerating her medication regimen well," Sanchez added, noting that she will most likely need surgery in the future. Thanks to strong antibiotics, pain relief, and lots of TLC, Cubone is currently stable. However, veterinarians remain cautious, as she is still at high risk for infection. Eventually, the wound will likely need to be surgically cleaned and closed. The cause of Cubone's injuries remains unknown, but sadly, animal abuse is not uncommon. An estimated 10 million animals die from abuse or cruelty each year in the United States, according to Shelter Animals Count. Approximately 250,000 animals are reported annually as victims of hoarding, often found living in unsanitary conditions. On June 3, Austin Pets Alive! shared graphic images of Cubone's injuries on social media (@austinpetsalive). The post has garnered nearly 1,350 likes at the time of writing. "Who would do this? Really heartbreaking," one user commented. Another wrote: "What a sweet, innocent angel! Sending all the healing her way!" A third praised the rescue: "Thank you for taking such good care of her as she goes through recovery. She's adorable!" Stories like Cubone's are heartbreakingly all too familiar. Newsweek has reported on numerous cases of dogs abandoned at the side of the road and cats discovered in inhumane conditions. Thankfully, many of these animals go on to find the happy endings they so deeply deserve.

I Made Some Realistic Crochet Pokémon Using My Generator — Think You Can Do Better?

Hot Topic 🔥 See what other people are creating on Make Yours Happy National Pokémon Day! I recently made a crochet generator, and tons of people have been using it to create crochet Pokémon — so, of course, I had to try it myself. In honor of this momentous holiday, I stitched together 15 Pokémon, and while some turned out adorable, others… not so much. Think you can do better? Let's find out! 1. Pikachu This was the easiest one to crochet, and honestly? It turned out perfect. No way you can top this — prove me wrong. 2. Bulbasaur 3. Squirtle Squirtle's got attitude, but my crochet version? Maybe a little too soft. I dare you to make a fiercer one! 4. Charmander 5. Eevee Honestly? This one came out adorable. The fluff, the ears — perfection. But hey, if you think you can make a cuter one, be my guest. 6. Snorlax This turned out pretty decent, but let's be real — Snorlax is all about the vibes. Can you make one that's even comfier? 7. Gengar I literally tried Gengar like 10 times, and I almost nailed the face… but the body? Yeah, that's another story. If you can fix this, I need to see it. 8. Clefairy I don't know what happened here, but my Clefairy came out completely armless. Maybe it's using Metronome to summon some hands? Either way, I need someone to fix this. You in? 9. Ditto 10. Slowpoke I don't even know what happened here. This is easily my worst one. Slowpoke deserves better — much better. Please, someone fix this. 11. Mr. Mime I thought Slowpoke was bad, but then I crocheted this nightmare. Mr. Mime was already creepy, but somehow, I made it so much worse. If you can fix this, you have my respect (and maybe my fear). 12. Cubone I mean… it tried. The little skull hat is kinda cute, but let's be real — it's not quite right. Cubone deserves better. Think you can perfect it? 13. Porygon Porygon is one of my all-time favorites, and this was the best I could do. But I know someone out there can make a better one. Prove me right! 14. Bellsprout This one turned out mostly okay … except for the extra legs. Not sure what kind of mutation happened here, but hey, maybe you can fix it? 15. Mew Last but maybe not least, I had to include a legendary, and honestly? Mew turned out pretty weird. Is it legendary-level crochet? Probably not. Think you can make it even better? Alright, I've shown you mine — now it's time to show me yours! Use my crochet generator, down below, to stitch up your own Pokémon, then drop your results in the comments. I wanna see if yours turn out better (or somehow worse) than mine… and yes, I will be judging.
