Organisers Celebrate Strong Debut for Cardiff's Blackweir Concert Series
Organisers are hailing Cardiff's brand-new music series Blackweir a success after more than 100,000 people enjoyed four headlining concerts. Over the past two weeks, the city's largest greenfield venue has welcomed global artists Stevie Wonder, Alanis Morissette, Noah Kahan and Slayer. Cardiff-based DEPOT Live – the live-events arm of Cardiff music venue, DEPOT – and UK promoters Cuffe and Taylor say they are 'delighted' with Blackweir. They said they hoped that this is the start of a regular concert series which could bring world-renowned artists and musicians to Blackweir Fields alongside the River Taff next year. Nick Saunders, founder of DEPOT Live, said: 'To have had such huge artists grace the stage for Blackweir has been incredible. From the artists to the music fans, the feedback for Blackweir has been overwhelmingly positive. A first year site is always nerve-wracking but it's safe to say Blackweir 2025 has been a huge success, and we are excited to work on future plans in consultation with residents and the council.' More than 3,000 people have been employed across the Blackweir site for the duration of the concerts, with the vast majority of those people being local to Cardiff. In addition, more than 100,000 people attended the four shows with more than 40% of them travelling from outside Cardiff and Wales. Nick added: 'To be able to have so many local Cardiff businesses and people employed across such a series of major events is very important to us. Not only does it mean we are creating jobs and supporting industry locally, but in turn that money is then reinvested into the local economy by the people who live here.' Cuffe and Taylor co-founder Peter Taylor added: 'When we first started talking about Blackweir we knew it was a very exciting prospect to create a large-scale event space capable of attracting the biggest names in the world of music. 'It takes a small city of people to bring such large events together and we have been able to create several thousand jobs during this period as well as employ people who will work continuously on the events. 'Additionally, the concerts have attracted around 40,000 people to travel to Cardiff. The positive impact that has on the local economy, whether they are day trippers or overnight guests, is a massive benefit and it is really pleasing to see so many people wanting to enjoy all that Cardiff has to offer. 'The artists we have brought to this beautiful site this year are without doubt global legends. We now look forward to discussing the way forward so we can attract even more huge names from the world of music to Cardiff. In the meantime, we will also be focusing on what improvements we can make moving forward as we continue to listen to feedback from our customers, stakeholders and artists.' Councillor Jen Burke, Cardiff Council's Cabinet Member for Culture, Sport and Parks, said: 'Blackweir 2025 brought some truly iconic artists to Cardiff and created unforgettable experiences for thousands of music lovers. Events like this can be a fantastic opportunity to showcase what we're about, and this summer we are truly living up to our billing as a Music City.' WATCH: Llangollen Eisteddfod Parade of Nations 2025
On Wednesday, July 9, visitors were treated as groups from across the world participated in this year's annual colourful spectacle. The procession began at the Eisteddfod grounds before following a one-way route through the town starting with Castle Street bridge. Competitors including choirs, dance groups, ensembles and soloists from across the globe took part and flags of all nations were proudly on display while participants danced, sang and waved back at the crowds. Everyone was thrilled to see competitors from Canada, Morocco, India, South Africa, USA and Zimbabwe alongside dozens of groups from Wales and the rest of UK. The Parade of Nations remains one of the central parts of the festival which continues this week. The spectacle was proudly led by the Llangollen Silver Band and Llangollen Town Crier, Austin Cheminais. The parade was followed by a huge party on the Eisteddfod field, where visitors were given access to the Eisteddfod site for just one pound. Last year, over 8,000 people came out to welcome the international competitors meaning this year's expectations were even higher. A recent partnership with Cuffe and Taylor is continuing to enable festival organisers to bring some truly amazing artists to Llangollen, such as James, Olly Murs and The Script. Overseeing the event was Dave Danford, the Eisteddfod's Artistic Director. He said: "The International Eisteddfod itself remains the central part of everything we do here, and we're delighted to be welcoming so many international competitors and visitors. Unfortunately, an "extraordinary medical incident" saw the 'Uniting Nations: One World concert' cancelled last night (Wednesday, July 9) after organisers confirmed a "flu-like outbreak". However, in an update, Llangollen International Eisteddfod said scheduled events will continue as normal today (Thursday, July 10), with the grounds open from 9am. The celebrations continue this evening with award-winning and Grammy-nominated artist KT Tunstall.

Texas to open summer of music at Llangollen Pavilion
The summer line-up starts with a headline show from Scottish pop-rock band Texas on Thursday, June 26. The concert series is part of TK Maxx Presents Live at Llangollen Pavilion and coincides with the Llangollen International Eisteddfod, which begins on July 8. "We're absolutely thrilled with this year's line-up of artists and to be partnering with Cuffe & Taylor again. "Anyone who came last year will know just how special this place is, and we can't wait to do it all again." Rag'n'Bone Man (Image: Supplied) Texas, fronted by Sharleen Spiteri, will open the season of live music, supported by Rianne Downey, a Scottish singer-songwriter. They are the first of 13 headline acts set to perform at the North Wales venue this summer. Other confirmed headliners include Rag'n'Bone Man, UB40 featuring Ali Campbell, James, The Script, Olly Murs, and The Human League. The concerts are part of a collaboration between Live Nation promoters Cuffe and Taylor and the Llangollen International Eisteddfod. This year's Choir of the World event will feature special guest Lucie Jones, while Bryn Terfel will perform alongside Fisherman's Friends and Eve Goodman. The festival also includes a full daily programme of competitions and field entertainment. Since its founding in 1947, the Eisteddfod has welcomed more than 400,000 competitors from more than 140 countries. This year, more than 4,000 participants from 36 countries are expected to take part. The 2025 Eisteddfod aims to build on the record-breaking success of 2024, with organisers promising an even bigger event.
