Nottingham Forest reach verbal agreement to sign Botafogo trio Igor Jesus, Cuiabano and Jair Cunha

Nottingham Forest have reached a verbal agreement to sign Botafogo trio Igor Jesus, Cuiabano and Jair Cunha. The Athletic reported earlier this month that the Premier League club were close to an agreement for the triple signing. Jesus is a 24-year-old striker, who has scored seven goals and provided one assist in 24 games this season. Advertisement The attacker, who has scored one goal in four appearances for the Brazil national team, joined Botafogo from United Arab Emirates side Shabab Al-Ahli in 2024. Cunha is a 20-year-old central defender who Botafogo signed from Santos in February. He has made 17 appearances in all competitions this term. Cuiabano, a 23-year-old left-back, was previously a target for Brighton & Hove Albion and has scored two goals in 22 games. Botafogo are owned by John Textor, who, through his company Eagle Football Holdings, also holds shares in Crystal Palace and Lyon. Forest are looking to add to their squad after qualifying for the Conference League next season, the first time the side have qualified for a European competition in 30 years. Tottenham Hotspur Are Locked In A Three-Way Battle For This Talented Full-Back: Good Choice For Spurs?

In a recent report, Trivela claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are locked in a three-way battle for Botafogo full-back Cuiabano. It has been mentioned that Spurs are facing competition from Manchester United and Bournemouth in the race to sign the Brazilian defender. Cuiabano's Impressive Form In Brazilian Football Cuiabano has produced a run of impressive displays for the Brazilian outfit over the past 12 months. The 22-year-old has made 50 senior appearances for Botafogo thus far, finding the back of the net six times and grabbing five assists across various competitions. Advertisement The Brazilian sensation has been a good defender at the back and deserves a ton of credit for making eight tackles, eight blocks and seven interceptions for Botafogo this season. However, he needs to find a way to improve his ball distribution based on his pass completion rate of 70.2% in the Brazilian Serie A (stats via Cuiabano's current contract at the Brazilian club will expire at the end of 2027. Thus, Spurs would have to make a convincing offer if they are serious about landing the Brazilian defensive ace this summer. (Photo by) Is Cuiabano A Good Choice For Tottenham Hotspur? Cuiabano is a good tackler of the ball and can read the danger well to secure possession back for his side on the defensive third of the pitch. He usually clears his lines when the opposition are on the front foot. Advertisement However, the Brazilian left-back has to find a way to improve his passing accuracy if he wants to fulfill his potential. Furthermore, he might need some time to cope with the physicality and high intensity of the Premier League if Tottenham manage to sign him this summer. Cuiabano would undoubtedly bring more quality to Ange Postecoglu's backline. He is good enough to compete with Destiny Udogie for a regular starting spot at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium next season. At 22, Cuiabano has the potential to be a future star in English football. Therefore, he would be a decent choice for the North London club in the long run. However, Postecoglu has to be patient with his development before he can get the best out of the gifted full-back at Tottenham.

Brighton push for Cuiabano despite failed offers

Brighton & Hove Albion are reportedly interested in signing Brazilian defender Luis Eduardo Soares da Silva, known widely as Cuiabano. According to journalist David Ornstein, Brighton have made the Botafogo full-back one of their main summer targets to strengthen their backline. The club are also keeping close watch on Diego Coppola of Hellas Verona, as they plan to bring in at least one defender. Cuiabano has attracted interest from several clubs across Europe in recent months. Turkish giants Fenerbahce tried to sign him in January, but Botafogo rejected their offer. The player only joined the club from Gremio last year and is under contract until June 2027. Brighton have made two separate offers for Cuiabano in the past few weeks, but both were knocked back by Botafogo. Their first proposal was worth £ 4.2 million with an additional £1.7m in add-ons included in the deal. They returned with a second offer of the same £4.2m fee, but with £2.5m in add-ons. This revised bid failed to meet Botafogo's expectations and was also turned down. Brighton have a reputation for astute signings, having brought in Moises Caicedo, Alexis Mac Allister and several other players cheaply. After developing them in the Premier League, they later sold those players for big profits. Cuiabano fits the profile of a Brighton signing – young, talented and with potential to grow under the right coaching. He can play as a left-back or further up the pitch on the left side of midfield, which adds to his value. The Brazilian has played 19 times this season, bagging two goals and three assists across all competitions. He has made 49 appearances overall for Botafogo, playing a key role in their Copa Libertadores and Serie A successes. The club had not won the Brazilian top flight since 1995, making that triumph a significant highlight in their history. Brighton may return with an improved offer in the coming weeks, hoping to get their man before other clubs move in.

Albion reported to be keen on rising star from Brazilian champions

A Brazilian full-back turned winger is the latest player to be linked with Albion. Botafogo wideman Cuiabano has been subject of strong interest from the Seagulls, according to a report. David Ornstein at The Athletic understands two bids have so far been made, the second potentially rising to about £6.7 million. Cuiabano, 22, emerged as a left-back but has recently been shifted further forward on the left in a 4-4-2 set-up. He previously played for Gremio and has reportedly been of interest to several European teams. GEORGINIO RUTTER BEATS THE INJURY BLUES Clubs in Brazil are moving into position ahead of the transfer window. Botafogo won the league title last season and are currently battling for qualification in the Copa Libertadores. It is known Cuiabano was watched by two clubs from Italy and another from Spain ahead of the January window but Botafogo held on to him. Fenerbahce are reported to have made a bid. Although his exit in July is seen as likely, Botafogo are keen to keep hold of Cuiabano for the World Club Championship. Albion have Pervis Estupinan as their undisputed first choice left-back and other options in more attacking areas. Cuiabano is likely to be one of many players linked with Albion, who have a good track record in the South American market.

Brighton pursuing deal for Cuiabano, have had two bids rejected for Botafogo player

Brighton & Hove Albion are pursuing a deal to sign left-sided player Cuiabano from Botafogo. The 22-year-old Brazilian joined from Gremio only last year and is contracted until June 2027. However, Brighton have made Cuiabano a target for this summer — with Botafogo rejecting two formal offers from the Premier League club so far. Advertisement The first bid was €5million (£4.2m; $5.6m) plus a further €2m in add-ons, and the next worth €5m plus €3m. The second proposal matched what Turkish side Fenerbahce saw turned down in January and — given the impact Cuiabano is making as a winger, scoring twice in three games — interest is building ahead of the transfer window opening. Capable of operating on the left side of midfield or as a left-back, Cuiabano has made 19 appearances for Botafogo this season, scoring twice and providing three assists. He has made 49 appearances for the club in total and helped the side win the Copa Libertadores — South America's equivalent of the Champions League — last year as well as the Brazilian Serie A for the first time since 1995. Brighton have already have 18-year-old South Korean winger Yun Do-young and 19-year-old Sunderland winger Tommy Watson joining the club next season after agreeing deals to sign the pair earlier this year. The south coast club are ninth in the Premier League and return to action when they host champions Liverpool on Monday. ()
