The city of Al-Zawiya hosted, on Thursday, the Cultural Forum for Libya's youth under the theme 'Youth for Building and Reform, Not Wars.' The event brought together young participants from across Libya's cities and regions, including political activists, several mayors from the western region, and faculty members from Libyan universities. The forum also featured the participation of prominent poets from both western and southern Libya, along with representatives from the Libyan Red Crescent. Speakers at the event praised the vital role of young people in nation-building, stressing the importance of supporting and empowering them to play an active role in all aspects of public life. Discussions during the forum highlighted the need to open new opportunities for youth in training, skills development, and employment in the civilian sector. Participants also called for improving the quality of education, healthcare, security, and all essential public services. The Cultural Forum aims to strengthen cultural exchange among Libya's youth and provide a space for expressing ideas and sharing experiences. Applied Science Private University Celebrates Jordan's 79th Independence Day and Inaugurates 2025 Cultural Communities Fair In a vibrant atmosphere filled with national pride and celebration, the Applied Science Private University (ASU) held an official ceremony to mark the 79th anniversary of the independence of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, alongside the inauguration of the 2025 Cultural Communities Fair. The event was attended by high-level dignitaries, highlighting the importance of the occasion and the university's role as a cultural and academic institution. اضافة اعلان The celebration was held under the patronage of H.E. Dr. Mustafa Al-Rawashdeh, Minister of Culture, with the presence of former Prime Minister Dr. Abdelraouf Al-Rawabdeh, along with a host of ministers, senior officials, ambassadors, diplomatic attachés, and embassy representatives. Also attending were Dr. Haitham Abdullah Abu Khadijah, Chairman of the University's Board of Trustees; Prof. Dr. Samihah Jarrah, the University President; faculty and administrative members; and a large number of students from various nationalities. The event featured national and artistic performances by ASU students, expressing deep patriotism and loyalty to Jordan and its wise Hashemite leadership. The university also launched the "Cultural Forum", a series of panel discussions and interactive workshops with the participation of prominent local and regional figures. On the sidelines of the celebration, the university inaugurated the Cultural Communities Fair, with students representing over 15 countries showcasing traditional heritage, national identity, and cultural diversity. This reflected ASU's inclusive academic environment and its commitment to cultural dialogue. Additionally, a Historical Documents Exhibition related to Jordan's independence was opened in collaboration with the Royal Documentation Center. In a remarkable tribute, the university honored former Minister Zaid Hamzeh, in recognition of his distinguished national contributions. Born on the very day of Jordan's independence, he stands as a living witness to the nation's modern history. The university also honored Dr. Abdelraouf Al-Rawabdeh, the first Prime Minister during the reign of His Majesty King Abdullah II, for his pioneering role in national service. A special recognition was also presented to Dr. Nidal Al-Ayasrah, Secretary General of the Ministry of Culture, as a representative of the event's patron. This annual celebration reflects ASU's commitment to promoting cultural awareness, instilling national values, and fostering global openness by embracing intellectual and cultural diversity within an environment of mutual respect and appreciation.

Muscat book fair celebrates books, culture and creativity
Muscat – Muscat International Book Fair continues to draw large crowds in its annual celebration of books, reading and culture. Now in its 29th edition, the fair is seen as a vital platform for fostering a love of reading among children and adults, while providing a space for intellectual exchange and cultural dialogue. Authors, publishers and visitors at the fair described its growing significance in conversations with Muscat Daily . Participating with his 14th publication – titled We Take a Walk in the Forest – Omani adventurer and author Khalid Said al Anqudi said the fair represents much more than a marketplace for books. 'Book fairs are primarily a celebration of books and writers. This is a unique feature of Oman,' he said. 'Muscat Book Fair has become a meeting point for intellectuals, writers and thinkers – because culture is the foundation that enhances all developmental achievements, whether economic or social.' Anqudi noted that despite the dominance of digital media, the appeal of printed books remains strong. 'We are witnessing a remarkable revival of paper books. Thousands flock to these fairs with genuine interest, reflecting the enduring appeal of books,' he said. Khalid Said al Anqudi Badriya al Ismaili, a researcher at Cultural Forum, described the fair as 'a seasonal and annual celebration for homes, schools and communities'. She emphasised its role in cultivating a reading culture among youngsters. 'It's an opportunity for parents to introduce their children to the world of books and instil the habit of reading early on,' she added. Publishers, including Ahmed Ali, reiterated the fair's role. Owner of a regional publishing house, Ali said the fair nurtures both Omani and Arab cultural identity. 'Muscat Book Fair receives much support from the state and stands out for its diversity. The increasing number of participating publishers each year speaks to its growing influence,' he said. Ali added that the fair has long contributed to cultural development. 'For nearly three decades, this fair has contributed significantly to raising generations that value reading and learning.' Visitors have expressed their enthusiasm as well. Attending with his children, Nasser al Rawahi described the fair as 'a valuable cultural opportunity'. 'Seeing over 600 publishing houses from 35 countries in one place is inspiring. It helps instil a love of reading in our children,' he said. Another visitor, Nasser al Hosni, pointed to the fair's role in cross-cultural engagement. 'This exhibition also showcases the importance of other participating cultures. With the wide selection on offer, book fairs today provide multiple sources of knowledge and perspectives,' he said. 'With its blend of literary celebration and educational value, Muscat Book Fair continues to stand as a pillar of Oman's vibrant cultural scene – a reminder that the written word remains a powerful force for connection and growth,' Hosni added.
