1,300 prisoners participate in ‘Yogandhra' at Central Jail
Rajamahendravaram: Amid the serene setting of centuries-old trees, Dutch-era historical structures, and lush gardens, the Rajamahendravaram Central Jail played host to the state-level 'Yogandhra' event on Tuesday morning. Bathed in the golden rays of the rising sun, the yoga programme saw the participation of over 1,500 individuals, including 1,300 inmates. Guinness World Record holder KLV Sridhar Reddy led the yoga session, guiding participants through various asanas. Notably, Karthik Ramachandra Reddy, a Class 9 student from SKVT Government School, demonstrated advanced yoga postures like Gandabherundasana, Urdhva Kukkutasana, Brahmastrasana, Kailasasana, Malayasana, and Sugrivasana. Speaking on the occasion, Tourism, Culture and Cinematography Minister Kandula Durgesh announced a special cine celebrities' yoga session will be held in Tirupati on June 15. He said that a record was set in Surat, Gujarat, where 1.23 lakh people participated in yoga, and expressed the AP's ambition to surpass that by organising a mega yoga event with five lakh participants in Visakhapatnam. District collector P Prasanthi emphasised that yoga should be practiced regularly and voluntarily, as it contributes significantly to physical and mental well-being. The jail's Superintendent S Rahul showcased various products made by inmates, including furniture, bed sheets. He mentioned that some of these items are being supplied to other prisons across the state. Rajanagaram MLA Battula Balaramakrishna, MLC Somu Veerraju, Joint Collector S Chinna Ramudu, Additional SP Ramesh Babu, District Revenue Officer T Sitarama Murthy and others participated in this Yoga session.

Minister alleges bid to create unrest ahead of PK film release
Rajamahendravaram: Tourism, Culture and Cinematography Minister Kandula Durgesh has strongly condemned efforts to stir controversy ahead of the release of Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan's film 'Hari Hara Veera Mallu'. Speaking to reporters on Monday, he alleged that certain individuals within the film industry were deliberately trying to create unrest dur-ing the film's release period. He questioned why stakeholders from the film industry didn't responded promptly to clarify the situation. The Minister claimed that the government has been consistently sup-portive of the industry, allowing ticket price revisions for new movie releases and taking proactive measures to address industry concerns. He criticised those, who claimed that the industry could resolve its is-sues without the government's intervention, calling such remarks as expression of arrogance. Minister Durgesh clarified that there will be no shutdown of theatres and assured that the State government is actively working to address the concerns of the industry. The Minister also lashed out at YSRCP leader and former minister Per-ni Nani for his comments regarding the ongoing film industry dispute, accusing him of speaking in an inhumane manner. He also accused YSRCP of exploiting individual deaths for political gain and described such behaviour as unethical and unacceptable. He clarified that the coalition government is ready to take legal action against any wrongdoing, but does not wish harm for anyone. Durgesh also announced that the Central government has approved the Detailed Project Report for the Akhanda Godavari Project. He said the project will be launched in the first week of June with the partici-pation of Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan and MP Daggubati Pu-randeswari. The project, valued at Rs 97 crore, has seen some tenders already finalised, and the government aims to complete it before the upcoming Godavari Pushkaralu. The Minister outlined that the government is working on a Public-Private Partnership model to enhance tourism infrastructure across the State. The Centre is supporting modernisation efforts at Surya-lanka Beach and the development of Gandikota Project. Plans are in place to set up tent accommodations at 21 prominent pilgrimage sites and introduce homestays in rural areas to promote local tourism. The government is also facilitating the construction of star hotels in Tirupati and Visakhapatnam, aiming to bring 50,000 tourist rooms in-to operation across the State. In addition, a private company Mega, has come forward to build two hotels near the Polavaram Project, the Minister explained.

‘Chinnari Arogyam' launched for Child Health in East Godavari
Rajamahendravaram: Minister for Tourism, Culture and Cinematography Kandula Durgesh participated as the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony of the 'Chinnari Arogyam' programme held at the Sri Venkateswara Anam Kala Kendram in Rajahmundry on Saturday. The programme is being funded through the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds of GAIL (India) Limited. Minister Durgesh unveiled the 'Chinnari Arogyam' poster at the event. Speaking on the occasion, the minister lauded the launch of the 'Chinnari Arogyam' programme as a commendable initiative aimed at ensuring the complete health of children who are not developing properly due to financial difficulties, lack of awareness among parents regarding nutrition, and malnutrition. He stated that this programme, the first of its kind in the state, should serve as a model for the entire state. He emphasised the need for officials to undertake programmes that raise public awareness about healthcare. He informed that efforts are underway to ensure the complete health of approximately 74,238 children aged between 6 months and 6 years in the East Godavari district. He further said that 1,438 children are suffering from various health issues and that the 'Chinnari Arogyam' programme has been initiated to create awareness among parents about their children's health and nutritional needs. The minister appreciated the program's objective of providing a special nutritious food kit to the children every month. District collector P Prasanthi stated that the 'Chinnari Arogyam' programme is an evolved version of the previously successful 'Bangaru Konda' programme implemented in the district, with the aim of implementing it more effectively. During the ceremony, the outgoing District Women and Child Welfare Officer, K Vijaya Kumari, who is retiring at the end of this month was felicitated. Additionally, a traditional Seemantham (baby shower) ceremony was conducted for pregnant women, and a graduation ceremony was held for young children. Joint collector S Chinna Ramudu highlighted that young children are falling prey to various health problems due to hereditary diseases and malnutrition. He urged the public to utilise the nutritious food provided at government Anganwadi centres and avail the health services offered at government hospitals. GAIL representatives Deputy General Manager (HR) Deevi Prabhakar, DGM K Rajan, Amravati Solutions' Anil Kumar, DMHO K Venkateswara Rao, Deputy DMHO N Vasundhara,RMC, and ICDS staff were present.

Buddha relics expo: Minister Durgesh to visit Vietnam
VIJAYAWADA: Minister for Tourism, Culture and Cinematography Kandula Durgesh has been chosen for a high-profile international assignment by the Prime Minister's Office (PMO). Durgesh will accompany Union Minister for Minority Affairs Kiren Rijiju to Vietnam from May 1 to 6 to oversee the exhibition of Lord Buddha's sacred relics in Ho Chi Minh City. The visit follows a formal request from the Vietnamese government to the Centre, seeking the presence of Indian ministers for the prestigious event. Responding to the invitation, the Government of India has arranged transportation of the Lord Buddha's relics by Super Hercules aircraft of the Indian Air Force. The relics, preserved at select locations in India, will be on public display in Ho Chi Minh City, allowing devotees to offer prayers. The exhibition is expected to deepen cultural and spiritual ties between the two nations. Durgesh expressed his gratitude to the PMO for the opportunity, calling it an 'honour to represent the State and nation at an event of such historical and spiritual significance.'
