7 Scholarships Offered By IIT Kanpur For UG, PG Students; Check Details

Last Updated: IIT Kanpur helps students apply for various external scholarships offered by central and state governments, public sector undertakings, and other organisations. The Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IIT) Kanpur provides various financial assistance programmes and scholarships for undergraduate students. These include direct benefit transfers, fee waivers, merit-cum-means scholarships, donor-funded scholarships, sports scholarships among others. Offered to both undergraduate and postgraduate students, it aims to acknowledge academic excellence among the institute's students. The Bright Minds Scholarship is awarded to students who secure an All India Rank (AIR) under 100 in JEE Advanced. Each recipient receives Rs 3 lakh annually, covering their entire undergraduate educational expenses. This scholarship ensures that deserving students can pursue their education at IIT Kanpur without financial obstacles. Merit-cum-Means scholarship Students not from SC/ST categories with an annual parental income below Rs 4.5 lakh are eligible for the Merit-cum-Means (MCM) Scholarship. This includes a full tuition fee waiver and a monthly pocket allowance of Rs 1,000. To maintain eligibility, recipients must have a minimum Cumulative Performance Index (CPI) of 6.5. If the CPI falls below 6.5 but is still above 6.0, the pocket allowance is discontinued, though the tuition waiver continues. Only the parental income certificate is required for application. Students pursuing B.S. degrees in Chemistry, Physics, or Mathematics and ranked within the top 10,000 in the Common Merit List (CML) are eligible to apply for the INSPIRE Scholarship. This merit-based scholarship offers Rs 30,000 per semester (Rs 60,000 annually) and includes a research grant of Rs 20,000 per year. To maintain eligibility, recipients must sustain a CPI of at least 6.0 and submit a declaration each semester affirming they are not receiving any other scholarship. This declaration must be presented to the Students' Scholarship and Prizes Committee (SSPC). Donor scholarships IIT Kanpur offers 129 scholarships funded by donors for students who exhibit merit or financial need. These scholarships are supported by alumni and other private contributors. Each scholarship has specific eligibility requirements, which may include the student's department, academic performance, or economic situation. The SSPC oversees the application and distribution of these scholarships. Free basic mess scholarship SC/ST students whose parents have an annual income of less than Rs 4.5 lakh are eligible for the Free Basic Mess Scholarship. This scheme covers the basic mess bill and includes a pocket allowance to help with daily living expenses. External scholarships The institute assists students in applying for various external scholarships provided by central and state governments, public sector undertakings, and other organisations. The National Scholarship Portal (NSP), an initiative by the Government of India, is one such resource for finding external scholarship opportunities. Every year, 20 sports scholarships, each valued at Rs 1,000 per month for nine months, are awarded to students who demonstrate leadership in campus sports activities or have excelled in Inter-IIT or external sports competitions. view comments First Published: July 16, 2025, 16:22 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. IIT Bombay's management school changes eligibility criteria

MUMBAI: The Shailesh J Mehta School of Management at the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay) has changed its eligibility criteria for its MBA programme, opening its doors to a more diverse range of students. In a significant shift, students who have completed a three-year undergraduate degree in any stream will now be eligible to apply for enrolment. Until now, only candidates with a four-year degree were considered, typically engineering graduates. The decision, taken at a Senate meeting last year, will take effect from the 2025–26 academic year. A statement released by an institute reads, 'The aim is to expand opportunities and make the prestigious MBA program more accessible to a wider range of students.' To be eligible, general category applicants must secure at least 60% marks or a CPI (Cumulative Performance Index) of 6.5 in their undergraduate degree. For students belonging to Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), or those with disabilities, the requirement is 55% marks or a CPI of 6.0. Final-year students awaiting results can also apply. However, their admission will be confirmed only after they successfully complete their degree requirements. The statement further said that the selection process remains aligned with other top management institutes such as the Indian Institutes of Managements (IIMs). A valid score in the Common Admission Test (CAT) will continue to play a key role in the admission process.
