Two dead in Interstate-85 murder-suicide following kidnapping from Mauldin service station

A man and woman died in a murder-suicide on Interstate 85 following a kidnapping, according to authorities in Mauldin and Anderson County. Mauldin Police Department and the Anderson County Sheriff's Office said in a statement that Nathan Orlando Cureton, 38, of Greenville, shot and killed 24-year-old Tayler Gennalee Maraj of Mauldin on May 24 before killing himself. Mauldin Police reported receiving a call at 11:40 a.m. about a kidnapping from the Spinx on Northeast Main Street in Mauldin. When officers arrived, neither Maraj nor Cureton was there. However, police confirmed from a security video that a person with a gun forced Maraj into a blue Subaru Impreza. Police said Cureton opened fire on Maraj, who was trapped inside the vehicle. He then continued driving before turning the gun on himself. The car came to a stop on the northbound side of the interstate near the Piedmont exit in Anderson County. Anderson County Sheriff's Office deputies discovered Cureton and Maraj at about 12:30 p.m. Emergency Medical Services transported Maraj to the Greenville Memorial Hospital, where she died at 12:54 p.m. More: Runway Cafe at downtown Greenville airport closes: 'We will dearly miss you all' Police said Cureton and Maraj knew each other, but the nature of their relationship was still being investigated.
