Seeds of change: Phase two of Kia's ‘Cycle of Life'

Kia Middle East & Africa, in collaboration with INNOCEAN MEA and production house electriclime°, has unveiled the second phase of its purpose-driven 'Cycle of Life' initiative. Titled Seeds of Change, the campaign continues to merge brand purpose with on-the-ground impact – focusing this time on biofabrication, youth education, and circular design. While the first chapter of Cycle of Life explored farm-to-table narratives, this new edition shifts to a farm-to-fabric focus. Directed by Kaley Emerson, Seeds of Change was rolled out as a short film series that was released across digital channels including YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok. The campaign introduces biofabrication to young Zambians through the transformation of agricultural waste – specifically banana stems – into usable materials. In collaboration with The Waste Lab, co-founded by Ceylan Uren and Lara Hussein, and the African Education Programme, co-founded by Julie-Anne Savarit-Cosenza, the film follows the youth through their hands-on training in turning agricultural waste into usable materials. While the campaign's core message is delivered through film, its broader impact is tied to practical education and real-world implementation. Kia's use of nature-derived materials in its vehicle interiors – such as plant-based textiles and natural dyes demonstrates how circular design and bio-fabrication can inspire both product innovation and real-world community impact A key challenge — and achievement — of the production was ensuring sustainability across all phases. electriclime° adopted a range of eco-conscious practices throughout filming. From optimising travel logistics and limiting crew size to using local teams and reducing material waste, the production aimed to minimise its environmental footprint. A carbon estimate calculated using the AdGreen calculator initially projected emissions at 44.87 tCO2e. The team was able to reduce this to 41.42 tCO2e. While still notable, the savings of over 3 tonnes marked a meaningful step forward in reducing environmental impact. Other on-set efforts included recycling, composting food waste, sourcing ethically donated wardrobe pieces, and avoiding unnecessary set materials. The team also worked closely with local partners to ensure efficiency and relevance. This campaign is just the beginning. Over the next six months, Kia is building a program to transform the Kia Garden in Kafue, Zambia, into a fully productive farm. Looking ahead, Kia plans to transform the Kia Garden in Kafue into a fully operational farm within the next six months. The site will serve as a hub for education in farming and biofabrication, empowering the local youth and promoting self-sufficiency through sustainable practices. Through 'Seeds of Change', Kia aims to drive progress through education and empowerment. This campaign reinforces the thought that true change comes from ongoing momentum and collective action. January Royal Rewind: Palace Unveils Gorgeous Black-and-White Pic of Kate Middleton & Surprising Vid of Prince William

2024 was a whirlwind year for the British royal family. In December alone, we got to watch Kate Middleton, 43, and her three kids at her annual holiday concert, we saw a surprisingly candid interview from Prince William, 42, and we of course got the Wales family Christmas card. But 2024 is long gone and 2025 is looking to be just as busy a year as the last. In fact, today marks the final day of the month, so I'm calling out a few of Kensington Palace's biggest royal events, outings and memorable moments from the last 31 days in a January Rewind. Here, the highlights. Early this month, Kensington Palace shared a gorgeous photo on Instagram in honor of Princess Catherine's 43rd birthday—and it came with a beautiful message from her husband, Prince William. The black-and-white photo taken by photographer Matt Porteous was accompanied by this caption from Prince William: "To the most incredible wife and mother. The strength you've shown over the last year has been remarkable. George, Charlotte, Louis and I are so proud of you. Happy Birthday, Catherine. We love you." Just days later, Princess Catherine shared the remarkable news that her cancer is in remission. The Princess of Wales returned to The Royal Marsden, which is the same center where she received treatment. Following the visit, she posted pics and a message on IG, saying, "It is a relief to now be in remission and I remain focused on recovery. As anyone who has experienced a cancer diagnosis will know, it takes time to adjust to a new normal." Prince William also appeared at a number of important outings. He headed to west London to visit a charity called Centrepoint, where he showed off his athletic skills by participating in a sparring lesson. In a surprising Instagram post, the future monarch can be seen interacting with the Cycle of Life team and focusing intently as he works on the wheel of a bike. Another slide also shows the prince breaking royal protocol by posing with fans for a selfie. Meanwhile, Kensington Palace also shared a radiant throwback of the Princess of Wales. In the photo, she is all smiles as she gently holds the hand of a baby. The caption gave a major update regarding the expansion of the Alarm Distress Baby Scale (ADBB) trial. Then, the Prince and Princess of Wales were quite busy in the last days of the month. They shared a beautiful poem for Burns Night, appeared together for an official event honoring the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau and even took part in a pair of solo outings (Will had a science day and Catherine spent time with children). Phew, what a month for the Wales fam. Want all the latest royal news sent right to your inbox? Click here.
