4-time defending Women's CWS champ Oklahoma beats Oregon 4-1 to reach semifinals, eliminate Ducks
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Cydney Sanders hit two home runs and four-time defending national champion Oklahoma beat Oregon 4-1 on Sunday night to reach the Women's College World Series semifinals and eliminate the Ducks. Sanders' two-run homer in the third put the Sooners up 3-1, and her solo shot in the fifth made it 4-1. Isabela Emerling hit a solo home run for the Sooners (52-8). Dezianna Patmon's homer provided the only run for Oregon. Oklahoma coach Patty Gasso got the win against Oregon coach Melyssa Lombardi, a longtime assistant for her with the Sooners. Oklahoma will play Texas Tech in the semifinals on Monday for the right to play in the best-of-three championship series. The Sooners will need to beat the Red Raiders and star pitcher NiJaree Canady twice to advance in the double-elimination format, while the Red Raiders will need just one win to play for the national title for the first time. Oklahoma's Sam Landry earned the win on Sunday in 4 1/3 innings of scoreless relief. She allowed two hits, struck out six and walked one. Ella Parker and Kasidi Pickering each had two hits for the Sooners. Oregon (54-10) won the Big Ten regular-season championship in its first year in the league.

Oklahoma softball eliminates Oregon from Women's College World Series If the cliche fits: survive and advance. The Oklahoma softball team did just that Sunday night in Oklahoma City as the Sooners knocked Oregon out of the Women's College World Series with a 4-1 win. OU advanced to play Texas Tech on Monday at 6 p.m. If the Sooners win that game, the two will meet again Tuesday in a game that will determine which team plays for the national championship. Sunday's game was all about Cydney Sanders. The OU first bagger popped two home runs, the first of which, a two-run shot, broke a 1-1 tie in the third inning, to lead the Sooners to victory. She hit her second in the fifth inning, a solo shot, to give Oklahoma a 4-1 lead. Both times she took the ball deep over the left field fence. Oklahoma was in position to take the lead after Isabela Emerling hit a solo home run in the second inning to tie the game. OU starter Kierston Deal gave up a solo shot herself in the top of the frame that gave Oregon the game's first lead. Sooners ace Sam Landry entered in the third inning and was on point. Landry worked the final 4 1/3 innings, allowing just two hits and a walk while striking out five on 65 pitches, keeping her fresh enough to likely pitch two games Monday if OU needs them. Oklahoma's win Sunday clinched a ninth straight year in the WCWS semifinals. If the Sooners beat Texas Tech in the first game Monday night, the two would meet again immediately after.
