‘Lowcountry's Got Talent' looking for more acts
BLUFFTON, S.C. (WSAV) – It is your chance to shine on stage, possibly make some cash and help a local theater at the same time. The Bluffton Youth Theater is hosting 'Lowcountry's Got Talent' on June 6. The show allows people of all ages from all across the Lowcountry to show off whatever their talent may be. There will be singers, dancers, magicians and a variety of other acts. Anyone from 10 through adulthood is eligible to participate. 'We're looking for magic acts,' Cynthia Ford, Founder of the Bluffton Youth Theatre said. 'Even artists could come in and do their paintings. It's really like AGT, only it's LGT and you know, they have all ages and it's a place they can showcase their talent.' The winner will take home the title and $1000. This could be your shot to do it all in front of a live audience and win the big prize. 'There's a lot of theater groups,' Cynthia said. 'Lots of talent in this place as it grows. There are so many people here. And I think the talent is really up through the roof. But this will maybe be a chance for people to come and see that kind of talent, that caliber of talent.' Auditions are open through Wednesday, May 14. The show is June 6. It is a fundraiser for the Bluffton Youth Theatre, which allows special needs actors and actress to be part of a theatre 'team' with other young people and teens. Bluffton Youth Theater asking for help to avoid a final curtain call
BLUFFTON, S.C. (WSAV) — For the past decade, one family has poured their heart and soul into a dream that has brought joy and opportunity to children of all abilities. The Bluffton Youth Theater has been a beacon of creativity, giving children and special needs children a chance to shine in drama productions. But now, after 10 years of hard work and dedication, the theater may be at risk of closing its curtains for good. 'It's more than just a theater. It's a whole world we're trying to create,' said Cynthia Ford, director and founder of the Bluffton Youth Theater. Through Broadway-level shows, the theater has embraced a unique blend of children and special needs castmates, offering them an outlet for expression and growth. After witnessing the incredible talent displayed by the children involved, Ford had a vision for a bigger stage and a nicer facility to accommodate the growing needs of the theater. 'This is like a 12,000 square foot building, but we've been renovating it for probably two years,' said Ford. Two years ago, they took over a new space and began the tiring task of renovations. Their vision included a handicap-accessible theater, a sensory room, a sound room, and more – all designed to provide the best possible environment for the young cast and crew. They hoped to unveil the renovated space with a grand opening last August, showcasing all the new features. However, they quickly encountered rising construction costs, skyrocketing equipment expenses, and an increase in rent and HOA fees. These financial hurdles caused significant delays to their plans. 'It's just much more than I expected because of the unforeseen costs over this whole year,' Ford said. 'Just delays and construction costs, things we did not realize in the building, which, you know, keeps setting us behind.' Now, as this year's grand opening draws near, the theater is still facing the same setbacks. Despite these challenges, the show must go on. All Ford is asking for, is a little support from the community. 'If you could just help us get over the little hill here… a little hump,' she said. Ford is holding on tightly to something they've worked so hard to build. She doesn't want to let go of the dream that has meant so much to so many.
