'The only thing to stop America would be...': Trump's reciprocal tariffs take effect at midnight; billions to start flowing into US
US President Donald Trump on Wednesday announced that the reciprocal tariffs would take effect at midnight, targeting countries he said have exploited the United States for years. In a series of posts on Truth Social, Trump said the tariffs would bring in billions of dollars, while once again attacking the US judicial system, warning that only a "radical left court" could stop America's rise. "Reciprocal tariffs take effect at midnight tonight! billions of dollars, largely from countries that have taken advantage of the United States for many years, laughing all the way, will start flowing into the USA," Trump posted. "The only thing that can stop America's greatness would be a radical left court that wants to see our country fail!" he added. Trump again followed up with another triumphant post saying, "It's midnight!!! billions of dollars in tariffs are now flowing into the United states of America!" Earlier on Wednesday, Trump signed an executive order imposing an additional 25% tariff on all goods imported from India, citing national security and foreign policy concerns. The White House claimed that India's continued purchase of Russian oil, directly or indirectly — poses an "unusual and extraordinary threat" to the United States. With this move, the total tariff on Indian goods entering the US will rise to 50%. The first 25% tariff will take effect on August 7, and the second round will begin 21 days later. According to the directive, the new duties will apply to all Indian imports except those already in transit or granted specific exemptions. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Cyprus Is Open for Investors - You Might Be Interested Cyprus Invest | Search ads Undo India strongly criticised the decision, calling it "unfair, unjustified, and unreasonable.' The ministry said India's oil imports are driven by market forces and national energy security needs and warned, that "India will take all actions necessary to protect its national interests." Meanwhile, the White House announced that starting just after midnight, goods from over 60 countries including key allies would face new tariff rates of 10% or more. Imports from the EU, Japan, and South Korea will be taxed at 15%, while products from Taiwan, Vietnam, and Bangladesh will face 20% duties. Trump said the tariffs are expected to bring billions of dollars into the US economy. "I think the growth is going to be unprecedented," he had said, adding that while the exact revenue figures are not yet known, "we're taking in hundreds of billions of dollars in tariffs." This govt school in Kaimur has four teachers for nine students
Sasaram: The govt primary school at Nadokhar village of Kudra block in Kaimur district, established in 1971, boasts a two-storey building with six classrooms, a kitchen, a washroom and a playground facility, but the irony is that there are just nine students in this institution of learning. And yet, four govt teachers and a cook posted here mark their attendance here every day. Until March, there were just two teachers. But the education department, in its wisdom, posted a headmaster and an additional woman teacher to meet staffing requirements, even as the students' population withered away. While many other govt schools across Kaimur and Rohtas districts face severe room shortage, where students from Classes I to V are crammed in a single, small classroom, here there is ample space, but just a few students. According to the latest data of the education department, the number of teachers in 14,213 schools across the state is above the sanctioned post, while 29 schools are functioning without a single teacher. One such school is in Rohtas. It is strange that no one in the education department seems to be asking why there are so few students. There has been no attempt to win back the trust of parents. While this school has a thin strength of students, over 60 children from Nadokhar village walk nearly 8km daily to study in a private school in Pushauli. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Interested in Investing? Cyprus Offers Many Options Cyprus Invest | Search ads Undo In practice, the school sees attendance only during examination days. Most of the nine students enrolled under the Right to Education Act rarely turn up, and currently, there is no enrolment in Class I. Ansh, a Class III student, said, "There are three students in my class, but it is rare that all come on the same day." His father, Vikas Singh, a farmer, said his elder son Harsh moved to the private school in Pushauli after finishing his primary education from this govt school. The school wasn't always this deserted. A steady decline in trust in govt-run institutions has pushed parents to seek better educational standards elsewhere, mostly in private schools, said a villager. Despite the poor strength of students, headmaster Shambhu Sharan Singh said the teachers attend school on time daily and remain for the full teaching hours. The school's admission register paints a grim picture: Classes II, III, and V have just two students each, while Class IV has three. There are currently no students enrolled in Class I. Mukesh Mani, block education officer (BEO) of Kudra, said senior education officials are aware of the situation and efforts are being made to rationalise deployment of teachers. He said there are no plans to launch a drive to increase the number of students in the school. A teacher, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said the low number of students often makes it difficult to create a proper teaching environment. "Sometimes there are only one or two students in a class. In such a big space, teaching one child feels pointless. It is like going through the motions. We want to teach, but there is no one to teach." Another teacher said that when there are no students attending classes, it becomes difficult for them to utilise their time effectively. In such situations, they bring anganwadi children and engage them in learning activities.

Gurgaon: Three members of a family died after a 34-year-old man allegedly spiked his two children's drink before consuming the same in Roshan Nagar area of Faridabad on Saturday night. All three died during treatment on Sunday even as an eerie silence prevails in the area.
