THE CANADIAN PRESS/Christinne Muschi A 17-year-old boy hit by multiple gunshots was sent to hospital Monday night, Montreal police say. Police said they received several 911 calls at around 6:30 p.m. reporting a person injured in a shooting near the intersection of Lacombe and Gatineau avenues in the city's Côte-Des-Neiges—Notre-Dame-De-Grâce borough. When officers arrived, they found the teen with injuries to his upper and lower body. He was conscious when he was sent to hospital. 'Despite his [serious] injuries we don't fear for his life,' said Caroline Chèvrefils, a police spokesperson. She said more than one suspect fled on foot in an unknown direction before officers arrived on scene. Police also observed bullet holes in two parked cars near the scene of the shooting and some shell casings on the ground. The canine unit was called in to assist investigators, who are also speaking with witnesses. No arrests have been made.

17-year-old arrested, charged with manslaughter in connection with 16-year-old's stabbing death

Social Sharing Montreal police have arrested a 17-year-old and charged him with manslaughter in connection with the stabbing death of a 16-year-old boy in April. The 16-year-old, Makhai Ruddock, was stabbed on Barclay Street in the Côte-Des-Neiges—Notre-Dame-De-Grâce borough on April 15. A suspect fled the scene before police arrived. Ruddock was conscious when police arrived on the scene, but died later in hospital. Police issued a Canada-wide arrest warrant for the suspect, a 17-year-old boy. Montreal police said in a media release on Monday that they tracked him down and arrested him in Niagara Falls, Ont., on June 5. They transported the boy to Montreal, where he is facing a manslaughter charge. His loved ones are urging parents and members of the community to watch out for warning signs that young people may need help. He appeared in youth court on June 6 to answer the charge. He cannot be identified because he is a minor. Ruddock's death marked Montreal's eighth homicide of 2025.

THE CANADIAN PRESS/Graham Hughes Montreal police (SPVM) say a cyclist is in critical condition with a head injury after being struck by a car in the Côte-Des-Neiges—Notre-Dame-De-Grâce borough Tuesday morning. The collision happened at around 8:20 a.m. near the intersection of Lacombe Avenue and Lemieux Street. Véronique Dubuc, a police spokesperson, said the cyclist, a 23-year-old man, was struck while crossing the street. While his injuries were initially considered not life-threatening, his condition deteriorated in hospital, she said. The driver of the vehicle was a 56-year-old man who was not injured. The case has been transferred to the collision investigation unit of the SPVM.
