RIE Mysuru celebrates 63rd Foundation Day
The 63rd Foundation Day of the Regional Institute of Education (RIE), Mysuru, was celebrated here on Friday.
The institute, established in 1963, had the primary objective of improving quality of school education through innovative pre-service and in-service Teacher Education Programmes, and to undertake research, development and extension activities in the southern region of the country.
The Foundation Day address was delivered by D. Manjula, in charge Director, All India Institute of Speech and Hearing, who said that since its inception, the RIE was catering to the needs of students, teachers, researchers and administrators of southern states of India.
Tracing the growth of RIE, Ms. Manjula said that from the early days of shaping young minds in the classroom and exploring the frontiers of science education, social science education, and language education through research, to stepping into leadership roles that shaped institutions and policy — RIE has grown and evolved in ways that one could never have imagined.
Pradyumna Kumar Sethy, Principal, RIE Mysuru, said that the institute has endeavoured to shoulder the responsibilities and challenges generated by changes in the education scenario of the region, comprising the states of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Puducherry, and the UT of Lakshadweep.
''Through the Inter University Centre for Teacher Education (IUCTE), RIE Mysuru, is also networking with all teacher education institutions in the southern region and has also launched several certificate programs in blended mode'', he added, and pointed out that the UGC has recognised RIE Mysuru as one of the centres for MMTT programs for the professional development of faculty of higher education institutes.
Students and faculty members of RIE were present at the event.
