A girls' high school in Auckland is in lockdown but it's unclear why.
A message from the school to parents stated Carmel College in Milford was conducting a "real lockdown" from 2.13pm on Thursday.
Police have been contacted for information.
"Please refrain from contacting any staff at the school as this could lead ot further distraction of their primary focus, which is caring for our students," the statement said.
It directed parents and caregivers to the school website for further updates.
The school on the shores of Lake Pupuke on Auckland's North Shore caters for students from Year 7 to 13.
