Sports Pulse Ryan Garcia is returning from a one-year suspension with plenty at stake. He'll fight Rolando 'Rolly'' Romero Friday with a chance to help secure a rematch with Devin Haney in the fall. A common opponent may help understand Garcia's chances against Romero in a 147-pound welterweight bout. Gervonta 'Tank'' Davis has stopped both men in the ring, and he says Romero hits harder. 'Well, shoot, (Romero) could hit harder,'' Garcia told USA TODAY Sports. 'But he got to hit me, and at end of day I hit hard, too.'' Garcia knocked down Haney three times April 20, 2024 and won the fight by majority decision. But that result became a no-contest after Garcia failed a post-fight drug test that resulted in a one-year suspension. Will Garcia return to the ring with the same power? Will Romero be able to tap into his own power and avoid Garcia's lethal left hook? USA TODAY will provide the latest updates, highlights and live coverage of all the action from the fight card. Sports Illustrated: Ryan Garcia Apratim Banderjee writes: "Ryan Garcia can put his opponents out as he has shown time and again during his career. Apart from the power, Garcia's speed is phenomenal. Meanwhile, Rolly Romero has nuke-like power and like Garcia, he can put anyone to sleep with a shot. That said, he might not be as technically gifted as Garcia. Romero's chin, however, is questionable. His ability to take shots can be questioned and Romero has been brutally knocked out before. KingRy' has a solid chin and can take what comes in his way. He can also serve it out good. Garcia might be able to take Romero's offerings before landing his own finishing shots midway through the fight." Predict Em: Ryan Garcia Loot Levinson writes: "I'm betting that the Ryan Garcia vs. Rolly Romero fight goes under 6.5 completed rounds at -115 betting odds. You have two fighters with big firepower whose defensive abilities lag far behind their offensive prowess. Combine that with the urgency of Garcia and the style of Romero, and it seems a lot would need to go wrong for this to be a fight that goes into the latter rounds." Ryan Garcia has a record of 24-1, with 20 KOs. His most recent bout vs. Devin Haney on April 20, 2024 was ruled a no contest after Garcia failed a post-fight drug test that resulted in a one-year suspension. Rolly Romero comes into the bout with a a record of 16-2, with 13 KOs.

Ryan Garcia vs Rolly Romero: Start time, undercard and how to watch fight tonight

This Friday, Ryan Garcia returns from his drug-related ban to box Rolly Romero in New York City – in Times Square, no less, as part of a stacked card and unique event. The Ring Magazine, recently purchased by Saudi matchmaker Turki Alalshikh, is organising the card, which sees Garcia take on Romero while Devin Haney fights Jose Ramirez and Teofimo Lopez faces Arnold Barboza Jr. • Purchase the fights on DAZN now The plan is for Garcia and Haney, if both win, to square off against each other next, after Garcia shocked his fellow American with three knockdowns and a points win last April – before the result was overturned, keeping Haney's unbeaten record intact. It was overturned due to the revelation that Garcia, 26, had failed a pre-fight drug test, having already missed weight before the bout (an indiscretion that made 'King Ryan' ineligible to take the WBC super-lightweight belt from Haney, 26). Garcia was hit with a one-year ban, but that suspension is now up, and he returns to action this week. Here's all you need to know. When is the fight? Canelo Alvarez Vs. Willian Scull Ring Walk Times

Tonight, Friday, May 2, Ryan Garcia vs. Rolly Romero headlines a three-fight boxing card from Times Square in New York City. On Sunday, Naoya Inoue meets Ramon Cardenas in Las Vegas with Inoue's undisputed junior featherweight championship on the line. Between those two cards is Saturday's Canelo Alvarez vs. Willam Scull headlined boxing event from ANB Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. In that match, Alvarez puts his WBA, WBC, and WBO super middleweight titles on the line against Scull's IBF super middleweight belt. Below, we look at all the pertinent information for Alvarez vs. Scull, including the main event ring walk times. Canelo Alvarez vs William Scull: Super middleweight, for the undisputed title Bruno Surace vs Jaime Munguia: Super middleweight Martin Bakole vs Efe Ajagba: Heavyweight Badou Jack vs Ryan Rozicki: Cruiserweight, for the WBC title Marco Verde vs Michel Polina: Middleweight Brayan Leon vs Aaron Guerrero: Middleweight Alvarez and Scull are expected to make their ring walk at approximately 11 p.m. ET Saturday, May 3 7:00 p.m. ET ANB Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia DAZN PPV $59.99 or $89.99 for DAZN Knockout Weekend Bundle that includes the Garcia Vs. Romero, Alvarez Vs. Scull card on Saturday, May 3. The rumor mill was working overtime last week when it came to Alvarez. Initial reports from The Ring (since deleted) said an 'agreement is in place' for Alvarez to put his super middleweight title on the line against Terence Crawford. Not long after that, ESPN reported that Alvarez was 'in the process of finalizing a deal' to face Jake Paul on May 3, and that, 'Turki Alalshikh, the chairman of Saudi Arabia's General Entertainment Authority, is suspending efforts to finalize contracts for an Alvarez vs. Terence Crawford…' It didn't take long for talk of the Paul fight to fall by the wayside as The Ring reported that Alvarez had inked a four-fight deal with Riyadh Season. The final piece of Alvarez news came down on February 8 when Alalshikh announced WBO, WBA, and WBC super middleweight champion Alvarez would face undefeated IBF champion Scull in May for the undisputed super middleweight title. Alvarez had held the undisputed super middleweight crown, but the IBF stripped Alvarez of its belt in July 2024 after Alvarez failed to make a mandatory title defense against Scull. Scull (23-0 with nine knockouts) won the vacant title in October with a decision win over Vladimir Shishkin. Alvarez (62-2-2 with 39 knockouts) is coming off a September decision win over Edgar Berlanga in defense of his WBA, WBC, WBO, and The Ring super middleweight titles. Bruno Surace (26-0-2 with five knockouts) is a 26-year-old out of France. He entered the conversation in December of last year when he scored an upset knockout win over Jaime Munguia in the sixth round of their first matchup. Munguia was a massive betting favorite in that fight at -3500, while Surace was the +900 underdog. Surace is an underdog in the rematch as well, but he is +500 this time to Munguia's -950. Surace's win over Munguia earned ESPN's boxing Upset of the Year honors. Jaime Munguia (44-2 with 35 knockouts) was the No. 3 ranked boxer at 168 pounds according to ESPN when he stepped into the ring to face Surace in his home country of Mexico. Munguia's only previous loss came in May 2024 when he dropped a unanimous decision to Canelo Alvarez. The plan was Munguia to get a win over Surace and then have him face Christian Mbilli. Surace upset that plan. Today, ESPN has the 28-year-old ranked at No. 10, one spot below Surace. We will have more on the Alvarez vs. Scull fight card as fight night nears.

(Photo by Cris Esqueda/) A busy weekend of boxing begins on Friday, May 2, with the 'FATAL FURY: City of the Wolves' fight card from Times Square in New York City. At the top of that event, Ryan Garcia returns from suspension to face Rolando 'Rolly' Romero. Meanwhile, in the co-main event, Devin Haney faces Jose Ramirez. Before the headlining bouts, Teofimo Lopez puts his WBO super lightweight title on the line against Arnold Barboza Jr. Below, we look at the ring walk times for each of the fights on the Garcia vs. Romero fight card. Ryan Garcia vs. Rolando 'Rolly' Romero - Welterweight Devin Haney vs. Jose Ramirez - Welterweight Teofimo Lopez vs. Arnold Barboza Jr. - For Lopez's WBO super lightweight title Garcia and Romero are expected to make their ring walk at approximately 8:00 p.m. ET Haney and Ramirez are expected to make their way to the ring around 7:00 p.m. ET The scheduled start time for the DAZN card is 6:00 p.m. ET and Lopez and Barboza are the first fight on the card, so they should make their ring walk shortly after 6:00 p.m. Friday, May 2, 2025 6:00 p.m. ET Times Square in New York City DAZN $59.99 or $89.99 for DAZN Knockout Weekend Bundle that includes the Garcia Vs. Romero, Alvarez Vs. Scull card on Saturday, May 3. The May 2 event marks the first time Garcia (24-1-0-1 with 20 knockouts) will compete since he defeated Haney via majority decision in April 2024. The New York State Athletic Commission (NYSAC) later ruled the fight a no contest after Garcia failed a drug test related to the bout. Garcia tested positive for ostarine and received a one-year suspension for the failed drug test. The NYSAC also ruled that Garcia's $1.1 million purse had to be returned to the promoter. The commission fined Garcia $10,000. The matchup was initially for Haney's WBC super lightweight title, but Garcia was not eligible to win the belt because he came in 3.2 pounds over the championship limit of 140 pounds. Haney had been 31-0 entering the Garcia scrap. NEW YORK, NEW YORK - APRIL 28: (L-R) Ryan Garcia and Rolando Romero appear before Ring Magazine's ... More upcoming "FATAL FURY: City of the Wolves" boxing event in Times Square at The Empire State Building on April 28, 2025 in New York City. (Photo byfor Empire State Realty Trust) Romero (16-2 with 13 knockouts) has alternated wins and losses over his past five outings. He carried a 14-0 record into his May 2022 matchup against WBA lightweight champion Gervonta Davis, but lost that contest via sixth-round TKO. Romero bounced back with a May 2023 TKO win over Ismael Barroso, winning the vacant WBA super lightweight belt in the process. He followed that victory with another TKO loss, this time losing in the eighth round to Isaac 'Pitbull' Cruz, and giving up his belt. In his most recent outing, Romero defeated Manuel Jaimes by unanimous decision in September 2024. Devin Haney (31-0-0-1 with 15 KOs) was on a 31-fight winning streak when he stepped into the ring against a seemingly unhinged Ryan Garcia at Barclays Center in Brooklyn in April 2024. Garcia dropped Haney three times that night on route to a decision win. However, as mentioned above, Garcia failed a drug test, which resulted in the outcome of the fight being overturned, and ruled a no contest. The failed drug test and Garcia's weight miss give Haney some slack heading into the Ramirez matchup, but Garcia tagged Haney with his left throughout the fight. Make no mistake, Haney needs a bounce-back performance in Times Square. NEW YORK, NEW YORK - APRIL 30: Jose Ramirez and Devin Haney face off during a press conference for ... More the fight between Ryan Garcia and Rolando 'Rolly' Romero at the Manhattan Center on April 30, 2025 in New York City. (Photo by Cris Esqueda/) Jose Ramirez (29-2 with 18 KOs) opened his career on a 26-0 run. By the time Ramirez faced Josh Taylor in May 2021, Ramirez owned the WBC and WBO light welterweight titles. Taylor held the WBA and IBF belts. When the fight ended, Taylor walked away with the decision win and as the undisputed light welterweight champ. Ramirez bounced back with three wins before dropping a decision to Arnold Barboza Jr. in November 2024. The Haney vs. Ramirez fight will be contested at welterweight. ESPN has Haney ranked as the No. 2 junior welterweight. Teofimo Lopez (21-1 with 13 KOs) is riding a five-fight winning streak since he lost the WBA, IBF, and WBO lightweight belts to George Kambosos Jr. in November 2021. Lopez captured the WBO light welterweight crown in June 2023 with a decision win over Josh Taylor. He has defended the belt twice, beating Jamaine Ortiz and Steve Claggett on points. Barboza (32-0 with 11 KOs) won the vacant interim WBO light welterweight belt in February with a split decision win over Jack Catterall. The victory was Barboza's eighth decision in in nine outings dating back to August 2020. ESPN has Lopez ranked at No. 1 in the 140-pound division, while Barboza checks in at No. 3 in those rankings. The man between them at No. 2 is Devin Haney, who also competes on the May 2 fight card against the unranked Jose Ramirez. Lopez has not fought since June 2024, while Barboza has two fights since November 2024, most recently competing in February. We will have more on the Garcia vs. Romero fight card as fight night nears.
