Community safety MEC launches Operation Basadi in Kaapmuiden
The Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison (DCCSL) launched Operation Basadi on Friday, August 8. This month-long campaign celebrates women's empowerment in law enforcement.
The operation is a collaborative effort with several role-players, including the SAPS; the Department of Public Works, Roads and Transport; the Department of Correctional Services; and the City of Mbombela.
The launch was held at the Kaapmuiden Police Station, followed by an unannounced search-and-seizure operation at Masitakhe Secondary School in Matsulu. According to the MEC for safety, Jackie Macie, a learner was found in possession of dagga, which led to the arrest of two male suspects.
Macie said the operation yielded impressive results, including the seizure of narcotics, the closure of shops and successful roadblock operations.

'A roadblock on the N4 toll route, near Alkmaar, resulted in over 70 vehicles being stopped. SAPS searched 381 individuals, and R19 700 was collected from motorists for unpaid traffic fines through automated vehicle number plate recognition,' he added.
Operation Basadi, which aims to showcase the capabilities of women in law enforcement and promote a safer community, will be conducted in all districts of the province in collaboration with various stakeholders and members of the Justice, Crime Prevention and Security Cluster.

'The operation is there to showcase the capacity that women have in all facets of government work and leadership, and this includes law enforcement,' Macie concluded.
