A 19-year-old teenager stabbed to death in a 'targeted attack' in a town centre has been named and pictured for the first time. Mohammed Afzal, known to his loved ones as Isa, was fatally attacked in Powerleague car park in the heart of Bury, Greater Manchester, just before 9pm on Friday, August 1. He suffered several stab wounds before sadly later dying from his injuries. Greater Manchester Police have confirmed that Mohammed's family are now being assisted by specialist officers during this 'difficult time'. Following the fatal incident, three teenagers were arrested and detained on suspicion of murder. They currently remain in police custody for questioning. The trio are all male and aged 19, with the latest arrested at Manchester Airport at 4.30am on Sunday. The others were detained in Bury and Bolton on Saturday night. Greater Manchester Police's Major Incident Team is leading the ongoing investigation into the shocking murder. On Sunday, Detective Chief Inspector John Charlton said that he believed the attack was 'targeted' and there was therefore no wider threat posed to the public. He described the incident as both 'violent and tragic', adding that it was 'witnessed by a lot of people'. DCI Charlton added: 'Even though we have three people in custody this is still a live investigation and that will continue today and into next week. 'This was a violent and tragic incident that was witnessed by a lot of people. 'This incident will have shocked the community and distressed anyone who witnessed it, but we believe this was a targeted attack with no wider threat. 'Our officers will be in the area today and over the next few days as we try to establish what happened in the lead-up to this awful incident. Greater Manchester Police have encouraged any individuals with information related to the incident have been asked to contact the force quoting log 3354-01/08/25 'We also have specialist officers supporting the family at this difficult time.' Forensic officers were seen gathering evidence from the Powerleague car park and a second scene on Valley Mill Lane, near the Roch Valley Greenway, over the weekend. Powerleague remained closed throughout the weekend, but reopened on Monday morning. Any individuals with information related to the incident have been urged to contact the force quoting log 3354-01/08/25. Information can also be reported by calling 101 or speaking anonymously to independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Detectives have launched a murder investigation after a teenager died in Greater Manchester in a 'targeted attack', police have said. The 19-year-old man sustained several stab wounds and died later from his injuries. The victim was attacked just before 9pm on Friday in a car park on Market Street in Bury. No arrests have been made, Greater Manchester police (GMP) said. The incident is believed to have taken place at a small-sided football complex. DCI John Charlton, from GMP's major incident team, said: 'Firstly, our thoughts are with the victim's family and friends after this tragic and upsetting incident – our specially trained officers are supporting them at this difficult time. 'This incident will have shocked the community and distressed anyone who witnessed it, but we believe this was a targeted attack with no wider threat. 'We have several scenes in place with the investigation ongoing in order to identify and apprehend the offenders responsible. There will be officers in the area today and in the coming days as we are determined to bring the family the answers they deserve. 'If anyone has any information or was in the area at the time, they should contact us quoting log 3354-01/08/25.'

Three teenagers arrested after boy, 14, stabbed to death in north Manchester

Two teenage boys have been arrested on suspicion of murder after a 14-year-old boy was found fatally stabbed in north Manchester, police have said. Officers from Greater Manchester Police responded to reports of a serious assault on Nevin Road, New Moston, at around 5pm on Sunday. They found a 14-year-old boy with stab wounds and despite the efforts of the emergency services, including air ambulance staff, he later died in hospital. Potential suspects were quickly identified by the force, who arrested a 37-year-old woman on suspicion of assisting an offender at a nearby address. Two boys aged 14 and 16 were arrested on suspicion of murder a short time later. A 14-year-old girl has been arrested overnight on suspicion of assisting an offender. All four remain in custody for questioning. Detective Chief Inspector John Charlton said the incident "will have shocked and saddened the local community, and distressed anyone who witnessed it". The force was able to "quickly identify potential suspects" after "significant resources" were allocated to the investigation, he said. "We are still trying to establish the full circumstances around the incident - there will be a large police presence and several scenes in place while we continue to investigate this horrific incident. "The boy's family are being supported by our officers and we are determined to give them the answers they deserve. DCI Charlton appealed to the public for any "information, doorbell or dashcam footage, or eye-witness accounts" from anyone who was in the area at the time.
