AUBURN, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — The Cayuga Museum of History and Art in Auburn, has two special updates for you. Museum admission will now be free for members of the newly added Blue Star membership. Additionally, it is free to attend a special screening of their Korean War exhibit. If you are in active-duty military in Central New York, including National Guard and Reserve, you qualify for the Blue Star Museums program, which means that admission to the Museum is free for you and up to five family members. The program launches this summer 2025, and runs from May 17 to Sept. 1. The program is made possible by a partnership between the National Endowment for the Arts and Blue Star Families, in collaboration with the Department of Defense and participating museums across America. The free admission program is available for those currently serving in: The United States Military Air Force Army Coast Guard Marine Corps Navy Space Force Members of the Reserves National Guard U.S. Public Health Commissioned Corps NOAA Commissioned Corps Qualified members must show a Geneva Convention common access card (CAC), DD Form 1173 ID card (dependent ID), DD Form 1173-1 ID card, or the Next Generation Uniformed Services (Real) ID card for entrance into the museum. NYS BluesFest celebration with extra special raffle The Cayuga Museum has a newly launched history exhibit, which captures the local impact of the Korean War. It also includes historical and scientific achievements of the people who called Cayuga County their home. You can also go on a tour of the location of the Sound film in the Case Research Lab. Along with the exhibit, there will also be special film screenings. This will include an introduction by Michael Reiff, a teacher of film and literature at Ithaca High School, screening of the film and a discussion afterward. The Korean War Film Series is free to watch, and will be at the Cayuga Museum's Carriage House June 28 | 2 p.m. | Manchurian Candidate Saturday, July 12 | 2 p.m. | Pork Chop Hill Saturday, July 26 | 2 p.m. | Devotion The Museum is open Wednesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tours of the Case Research Lab occur every open day at 10:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. The Carriage House Theater is located at 203 Genesee St., behind the Cayuga Museum. Parking is available in the adjacent lots of the Cayuga Museum and Schweinfurth Art Center. Street parking is also available on Genesee and Washington Street. YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) — A local museum is offering free admission for active military families until this fall. The Youngstown Historical Center of Industry and Labor on West Wood Street announced that they are participating in this year's national Blue Star Program, which offers free admission to active-duty military personnel, including the National Guard and Reserves, and their families, to select museums. On average, more than 2,000 museums participate, including nature centers, zoos, and children's museums. Qualified members must show a Geneva Convention common access card (CAC), DD Form 1173 ID card (dependent ID), or a DD Form 1173-1 ID card for entrance into a participating Blue Star Museum. Free admission runs until Labor Day, which is September 1. SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS)—Did you know that veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces get discounts at National Parks and Forests and have access to campgrounds that are not available to most civilians? There are more than 400 national parks and more than 2000 recreational areas in the United States, and if you have one of the following, you quality for a LIFETIME MILITARY PASS: DOD ID card DD For 2 DD Form 2765 Veteran Health Identification Card Veteran ID Card Veterans designation on state-issued U.S. driver's license or ID card The Military Lifetime Pass is for veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces, Gold Star Families, and next of kin of a member of the U.S. Armed Forces who lost his or her life in a 'qualifying situation,' such as a war, an international terrorist attack, etc… National parks vs. national forests: the differences Are you a current member of the US Armed Forces? If so, you and your dependents can enjoy a Military Annual Pass. You'll need one of the following to get your pass: Unexpired Common Access Card (CAC) Unexpired DD Form 1173 Unexpired Next Generation Dependent ID (Replacement of DD Form 1173) The Interagency Military Annual Pass is available to current military members and their dependents. It covers entrance fees to U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and National Park Service sites and Standard Amenity Fees at Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, Bureau of Reclamation, and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers sites. If you have an Interagency Military Annual Pass, you can take any accompanying passengers with you (in a private, non-commercial vehicle) to federal recreation sites. The pass owner can also bring up to three adults, ages 16 and up, to federal sites that charge per person. Veterans and civilians with permanent physical, mental, or sensory impairments that limit one or more major life activities are eligible for an America the Beautiful Access Pass. The permanent disability does not have to be 100%. The pass admits the pass holder (and passengers accompanying them in a non-commercial vehicle) to participating sites across the United States. Some parks have a 5-day limit, while others allow you to stay for a month. Before you load up and go, just remember to ask about the maximum amount of time you will be able to spend camping at a national forest or park.
