Netflix renews mystery thriller 'Dept. Q' for season 2 — here's what we know so far

Netflix just gave us a long-awaited update about one of the streaming service's best new shows of the year. If you've been waiting for an update on the future of "Dept. Q," we've got good news: DCI Carl Morck (Matthew Goode) will be back in action. Today (August 19), Netflix confirmed that Scott Frank's mystery thriller had been renewed for a second season, meaning Carl (and the rest of his misfit crew) will be hitting the streets of Edinburgh, Scotland again soon. Get the departmental speedboat, DEPT. Q is coming back for S2! ✌️ 19, 2025 In the announcement, Netflix confirmed "Dept. Q" spent six weeks in the Global Top Ten shows on Netflix, so it's surely welcome news to plenty of fans around the world. "I'd like to thank Netflix for giving us the opportunity to further investigate "Dept. Q's" storylines," Goode said in a statement shared via Tudum. "We have a wonderful cast and crew, headed by our resident genius Scott Frank. I cannot wait to read what comes from his magic quill." Per Tudum, we know that several key players are set to return for "Dept. Q" season 2. Along with Matthew Goode, you'll also be seeing Akram (Alexej Manvelov), Rose (Leah Byrne) and Hardy (Jamie Sives) back for the second chapter, too. Plot details, understandably, are under wraps for "Dept. Q" season 2, though I'd presume it will draw at least some elements from the next book in Jussi Adler-Olsen's novel series, "The Absent One". That second novel sees Carl and co. tackling a decades-old cold case around the brutal double murder of a brother and sister. But with nine more books to choose from, there's every chance Carl and co. might be cracking another case entirely. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. Production is due to take place in Edinburgh once more, but we don't have a "Dept. Q" season 2 release date yet. We likely won't have one for a while, either, judging by Goode's statement. If Scott Frank's still got to write the second season, they can't crack the case anytime soon. We'll be keeping our eyes peeled for more clues about "Dept. Q" season 2, but if you're looking for something to watch while we wait for more "Dept. Q" season 2 news, we can help. Check out our round-up of the best shows to watch after "Dept.
