Soundarya Sharma Reacts To Objectification Claims In Housefull 5: ‘I Don't See Any Of It'

Last Updated: Housefull 5 actress Soundarya Sharma responds to criticism about female objectification in the film, saying she doesn't see it and was surprised by the backlash. Actor Soundarya Sharma, who appeared in Housefull 5, has finally responded to criticism surrounding the portrayal of female characters in the recently released film. In a conversation with DNA India, the Bigg Boss 16 alum seemed caught off guard when asked about the objectification of women and the focus on looks over substance in the slapstick comedy. 'I don't see that, I don't see any of it," she replied, visibly surprised. 'Pata nahi, aap bol rahe ho toh… Honestly, I haven't gotten time to sit and read all of these because I've been busy counting numbers and celebrating. I think the makers would be the right people to answer this, because an actor is just part of someone else's vision. It's made in a very light way and with heart. I don't know kaun hai yeh log jo iss tarah baat kar rahe hai," she added, deflecting the criticism. Touching upon the criticism of the outfits worn by female actors in the film, Soundarya reasoned, 'I feel it's not the first time someone has worn something like that. It's also a reflection of society, not that they've forced anything. Actors have worn everything from bikinis to sarees before. Aisa kuch samajh mein mere ko nahi aa raha hai." Despite her defense, the internet didn't hold back. A clip of the interview surfaced on Reddit, with users debating whether she was downplaying the issue or simply toeing the industry line. One comment read, 'Poor girl's entire existence in the film was reduced to just being there for the male gaze and she thinks there wasn't any objectification?" Another added, 'This is her relaunch movie and she's happy to be a part of it, what else do people want her to say?" A more sympathetic user pointed out, 'She's not a nepo kid. It's a big deal for her to be in a star-studded movie. Speaking against the film could mean losing future opportunities." Directed by Tarun Mansukhani, Housefull 5 marks the fifth chapter in the blockbuster franchise that began in 2010. The film boasts a massive ensemble including Akshay Kumar, Abhishek Bachchan, Riteish Deshmukh, Jacqueline Fernandez, Sonam Bajwa, Nargis Fakhri, and veterans like Jackie Shroff, Nana Patekar, Johny Lever, and Sanjay Dutt. It hit theatres on June 6 under the Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment banner. Outside of Housefull 5, Soundarya Sharma has appeared in films like Ranchi Diaries and web series such as Raktanchal 2, Country Mafia, and Karm Yuddh. Whether or not Housefull 5 elevates her to the next level remains to be seen—but for now, she's standing by the film that relaunched her in the Bollywood mainstream. Lara Dutta Lara Dutta may be a familiar face in Bollywood today, but her beginnings were far from the niche of the film world. South India loves 'Bhai' but does not buy his films' tickets? Nani has a sweet reply for Salman Khan

Telugu actor Nani has responded to Salman Khan's recent comments about Bollywood's limited acceptance in South India, firmly disagreeing with the superstar's observation. Nani emphasized that Hindi films have long been cherished in southern states, receiving affection and admiration for generations. Nani, who is gearing up for the release of Hit: The Third Case, appeared in an interview with DNA India alongside actress Srinidhi Shetty, known for her role in KGF, to promote his upcoming film. #Pahalgam Terrorist Attack India stares at a 'water bomb' threat as it freezes Indus Treaty India readies short, mid & long-term Indus River plans Shehbaz Sharif calls India's stand "worn-out narrative" For context, Salman Khan, during promotions for his film Sikandar, remarked that although fans in the South greet him warmly with chants of "bhai-bhai," they often do not support his films at the box office. During a media interaction, Salman suggested that while he enjoys personal popularity, it doesn't necessarily lead to commercial success for his Hindi films in southern theatres. When Nani was asked about this perceived lack of Bollywood's reach in the South, he immediately countered the narrative. Nani explained, "Hindi cinema is the original; the South industry flourished later. The love for Bollywood in the South has been around for decades. If you ask anyone from the South about their favorite Hindi film, they'll fondly recall movies starring legends like Amitabh Bachchan. Films like Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and Dil To Pagal Hai were massive hits across Hyderabad and other southern regions. Today, while the South industry is experiencing a broader national embrace, Hindi films have always been warmly received throughout India." by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Play War Thunder now for free War Thunder Play Now Undo He further asserted, "How could Salman Khan have become such a huge star without audiences from the South embracing his films? Of course, they perform well! We've all grown up watching his movies. Films like Hum Aapke Hain Koun hold immense cultural significance in the South. Songs like 'Didi Tera Deewana' were staples at weddings and celebrations." Srinidhi Shetty, too, agreed wholeheartedly with Nani, adding, "Watching Hindi movies was a normal part of life for everyone. We all loved them." Nani suggested that perhaps Salman's words had been misunderstood, stating, "Maybe his statement was misinterpreted. He surely knows how many of his films were huge successes here." Hit: The Third Case is set for release on May 1 across India. Meanwhile, during the Sikandar promotional tour, Salman reflected on the changing dynamics between Bollywood and South cinema. He acknowledged that despite his massive fan following in the South, his films sometimes fail to make a major impact at the southern box office. Salman explained that South Indian cinema resonates deeply with its cultural identity, making it challenging for Bollywood films to connect as strongly. He also observed that while stars like Rajinikanth, Chiranjeevi, and Suriya enjoy wide admiration in Hindi-speaking regions, Bollywood films often don't experience the same level of embrace in the South.
