DOH-Bay reminds residents of Revive Awareness Day
BAY COUNTY, Fla. (WMBB) – The Florida Department of Health in Bay County observes Revive Awareness Day on Friday, June 6. According to a news release, the DOH-Bay wants to remind residents that naloxone (Narcan) is a medication that can reverse the effects of an opioid overdose. Floridians can find Narcan for their community by calling DOH-Bay at 850-872-4455. The DOH-Bay offers Narcan at the Florida Department of Health in Bay County, 597 W 11 St., Panama City, FL, 32401. DOH-Bay offers the following information: All Floridians need to know the signs of an overdose, which include: -Small, constricted 'pinpoint pupils'-Falling asleep or losing consciousness-Slow, weak, or not breathing-Choking or gurgling sounds-Cold or clammy skin-Discolored skin, especially lips and nails-Limp body What to Do if You Think Someone is Overdosing: -If you suspect someone has overdosed, call 911 immediately.-Administer Narcan if available, lay the person on their side to prevent choking, andtry to keep them awake and breathing until emergency assistance arrives. The HEROS Program:-The Florida Department of Health's Helping Emergency Responders Obtain Support(HEROS) program provides naloxone to emergency response agencies throughout the Florida agency that employs licensed emergency responders may apply to the HEROSprogram. If You or a Loved One Needs Help:The Coordinated Opioid Recovery (CORE) Network is the first of its kind in the U.S. and aimsto eliminate the stigma of addiction and treat substance use disorder as a disease, with the same level of continuous care. Floridians battling with addiction can utilize the CORE Network for stabilization and to receive medication-assisted treatment from a network of specialized medical experts that will help guide them on a sustained pathway to healthy success. Results indicate that the water quality at the locations shows an acceptable level of Enterococcus bacteria established by state guidelines. Test results are available here. DOH-Bay issues water quality advisories for three parks
BAY COUNTY, Fla. (WMBB) – The Florida Department of Health in Bay County has issued water quality advisories for the following locations. Carl Gray Park (SP 9), Collegiate Drive, Panama City, FL, 32401 Beach Drive (SP 10), US-98 West Beach Drive, Panama City, FL, 32401 Earl Gilbert Park (SP 11), 6601 Oak Shore Drive, Parker, FL, 32404 DOH officials said tests were completed on Tuesday, May 27. However, they indicate that water quality at the following locations does not meet the recreational water quality criteria for Enterococcus bacteria recommended by the Florida Department of Health. According to a news release, DOH-Bay advises against any water-related activities at these locations due to an increased risk of illness in swimmers. Sampling conducted during regular water quality monitoring showed that the level of bacteria exceeds the level established by state guidelines, DOH officials wrote. DOH-Bay shares water safety tips for National Water Safety Month
BAY COUNTY, Fla. (WMBB) – The Florida Department of Health in Bay County is sharing tips and raising awareness on drowning prevention as May is National Water Safety Month. According to a news release, children ages 1 to 4 years old are more likely to drown in a home swimming pool than children ages 5 to 19 years old, who are more likely to drown in natural bodies of water. The DOH-Bay said that learning and following water safety rules is vital to help keep everyone safe and let those who enjoy water recreation without the danger of drowning, as everyone plays a role in drowning prevention. DOH-Bay Water Safety Tips: – Always keep your eyes on children in and around water, including pools and open bodiesof water. Actively supervising and giving children your undivided attention when they arein or around water can help prevent drownings. – Never leave a child alone around water. – If your child is missing, check other pools or surrounding bodies of water. – Use barriers around water, including fences, self-closing/self-latching gates, and securedoors with alarms. Barriers help prevent young children from wandering into bodies ofwater, including lakes, pools, ponds, and more. – Have a phone nearby in case you need to call 911 in an emergency. – Open cuts or wounds should not be immersed in water; if there's bacteria in the water, itcan enter the body through a cut or wound. – If a cut or wound happens when in the water, it should be washed with clean, runningwater and soap and covered with a clean, dry, waterproof bandage DOH Beach and Lake Swimming Tips: – Swim It: Always swim with a buddy, and when safety flags and signs give it the all-clearto do so. – Shore It: If you have a weakened immune system, a cut on your skin, or don't have abuddy to swim with, stay on dry land. – Dodge It: If you encounter animals that live near or in the water, stay away. Also, do notdrink, swim, wade, use personal watercrafts, or come into contact with waters wherethere are visible algal blooms like red tide and blue-green algae.
