TFC deny in talks to release Akhyar
TERENGGANU FC (TFC) have denied allegations that the club is currently in negotiations with Duli Pengiran Muda Mahkota (DPMM) FC of Brunei for the transfer of their agile winger Muhammad Akhyar Abdul Rashid. Terengganu Football Club Sdn Bhd (TFCSB) Acting Chief Executive Officer, Mohd Syahrizan Mohd Zain said that so far, no party has come forward with an official request, including the invited Super League team DPMM FC. He said the Kedah-born player is still under contract with the Turtles until 2027 and remains in the team's main plans for the upcoming Malaysian League (M-League) season. 'The player (Akhyar) is still contracted until 2027. We have not received any official letter, let alone engaged in negotiations with DPMM FC regarding the player's transfer. 'We consider the matter to be mere rumours and speculation on social media. Our focus is on building the team for the new season,' he said when contacted today. However, Mohd Syahrizan said that if any party is interested in acquiring a TFC player, they must go through the correct channels and procedures as stipulated by the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) and the Malaysian Football League (MFL). According to him, the Turtles will only consider any transfer offers if the player is not in the coaching staff's plans for the 2025/2026 season. 'We always adhere to professional principles in handling any matters related to players. But all matters must follow the proper procedures as outlined by FAM and MFL,' he said. Akhyar, 26, joined TFC last season on a loan deal.

Great Scot! DPMM FC back in Super league and targeting top six finish
WITH a Scotsman in charge, Brunei club DPMM FC have promised fierce competition by boldly targeting a top-six finish in the 2025/2026 Super League season, which begins in August. DPMM FC general manager Md Ali Momin said discussions are underway to ensure the team, under the leadership of head coach James McAllister of Scotland, are well-prepared, including the signing of Malaysian footballers. He said so far, based on the plan, the club will register about seven imports and 15 Brunei players. 'With the agreement of the Malaysian Football League (MFL), Malaysian players can feature for Brunei (as local players), which is an advantage. 'There may be some key positions that we need to fill, perhaps two or three (Malaysian) players that we must secure,' he told a press conference after the signing ceremony of DPMM FC's participation agreement in the 2025-2028 Malaysia League (M-League) here today. Also present were MFL president Datuk Ab Ghani Hassan, MFL acting chief executive officer Mohd Shazli Shaik Mohd and FIFA (International Football Federation) Council member Tan Sri Hamidin Mohd Amin. Md Ali said DPMM FC are excited to compete in the M-League which has a big brand and a large fan base in the country. 'We will try to compete with the likes of Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) and Selangor, maybe in the beginning we will struggle a little, because we have long left the M-League, (however) we will try to give fierce competition to all the clubs (in the league),' he said. As such, he hopes that the quality of players could be further improved and the bilateral relationship between the two countries strengthened through DPMM FC's participation in the M-League. Meanwhile, Mohd Shazli said that the participation of DPMM FC thus makes it a total of 14 clubs that will play in the 2025-2026 Super League season so far. 'For the MFL, the presence of DPMM FC is an added value to the M-League and all local fans are aware of the football history that Brunei has etched. '... certainly with Brunei's presence it will make the M-League more competitive and have more commercial value,' he said. The MFL was previously quoted as saying that DPMM FC would play as an invited club after receiving approval from FIFA. According to MFL, the club is no stranger to local football competitions and once participated in the Malaysia Cup in 1979 before joining the Semi-Pro League in 1989. The team also won the 1999 Malaysia Cup after beating Sarawak 2-1 at the Merdeka Stadium and finished third in the 2005-2006 Super League.

Brunei's DPMM FC Confirms Malaysia Super League Challenge
KUALA LUMPUR, May 21 (Bernama) -- Brunei-based club DPMM FC has confirmed its participation in the 2025/2026 Malaysia Super League (MSL) season, even as the Malaysian Football League (MFL) remains tight-lipped on the official number of teams for the upcoming campaign. The club made the announcement in a statement on the signing of Penang FC defender Mohammad Fairuz Zakaria. In the same statement, DPMM also confirmed that both Bruneian and Malaysian players will be regarded as local players in the team's roster for the new MSL season. bootstrap slideshow 'Fairuz Zakaria has agreed to join DPMM FC for the upcoming Malaysia Super League season 2025/2026. Bruneian players as well as Malaysian players are considered local players for DPMM FC for this MSL season, which is very good news for us. 'He is the first Malaysian player that will be in the DPMM roster. Fairuz Zakaria 27, has been a regular in the team for Penang FC last season and DPMM is hoping that he would do well with the team in the upcoming season,' according to a statement on the club's official website. Last Friday, the First Instance Body (FIB), an independent licensing authority, stated that the document review process for clubs applying for the National License to compete in the 2025/2026 season is still ongoing. This follows media reports suggesting several teams may withdraw from the competition. DPMM, Brunei's most established football club and currently the only professional team in the country, is still completing its remaining fixtures in the Singapore Premier League. -- BERNAMA
