Haryana govt plans to link Global City with Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway

The Haryana government is planning to construct a road connecting the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway with the under construction Global City project coming up over 1,000 acres of land on Pataudi Road in Gurugram Sector 36, officials said on Friday. A senior Gurugram Metropolitan Region Development Authority (GMDA) official said that a 60-metre-wide road has been proposed along the newly constructed drain in Narsingpur to connect the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway with the Global City project, which has access from Pataudi Road and the Dwarka Expressway. 'The land required for the road falls in Khandsa and Mohammadpur Jharsa villages — some of it privately owned and under litigation and some of it is owned by the Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (HSIIDC). The Global City project is a high priority project of the Haryana government and giving it access through the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway will further improve access to this residential and commercial project,' said a senior GMDA official, requesting anonymity. The Global City project is being developed by the HSIIDC over 1,000 acres across Gurugram sectors 36, 36B, 37 and 37B. It is a mixed land use project with approximately 12 million sqm of built-up area. It will have commercial towers, offices, residential towers, retail spaces, hospitals, schools, center for innovation, start-ups, incubation zone, hospitality and cultural zones, exhibition cum convention center (ECC) green and open spaces, and water bodies. Next week, the proposed road project will be discussed in detail under the first district coordination committee meeting, which will be chaired by DS Dhesi, principal advisor, urban development Haryana government. Apart from this project, several other local projects will also be discussed in this meeting. The 60-metre road will be constructed along the Kuccha drain, which was built to link the low-lying area in Narsingpur with the Badshahpur drain. The Haryana government is developing the first phase of Global City on 587 acres in which the trunk infrastructure is being built, said officials. The first phase includes construction of 13km of internal roads, landscape across 82 acres, 26km of storm water drainage infrastructure, 11.96km of potable water infrastructure, a 12km recycled water pipeline, and a 10km utility tunnel. Work on phase 1 is expected to be completed by December 2026.

After multiple delays, revamp for Vatika Chowk to NH-8 road & Dwarka Expressway to Manesar road; June 15 deadline set

Gurgaon: Officials of GMDA were directed to complete repairs on two crucial stretches in the city's new sectors — the road from Vatika Chowk to NH-8 and the one connecting Dwarka Expressway to Manesar — by June 15. Haryana's principal advisor for urban development DS Dhesi directed officials to complete the work during a review meeting held on Thursday to assess the status of road infrastructure projects being executed by the authority. GMDA CEO Shyamal Misra, along with senior officials from the metropolitan authority, was also present at the meeting. Dhesi reiterated the need for strict adherence to deadlines and said the two stretches were critical as they witnessed high traffic volume. "The ongoing road upgradation works being carried out by GMDA must be expedited and completed within the stipulated timeline. The road repair from Vatika Chowk to NH-8 and from Dwarka Expressway to Manesar must be completed by June 15 since these are key stretches which witness heavy traffic movement," he said. The 5.5km stretch of Southern Peripheral Road (SPR) between Vatika Chowk and NH-8 needed repair due to extensive surface deterioration — including deep craters, potholes, and widespread cracks. The condition worsened over time, leading to frequent traffic congestion and posing serious risks to commuters. While GMDA completed repairs on the section from Ghata village to Vatika Chowk in March last year, the remaining stretch remained untouched. The tendering process for its repair began in Dec last year, but the implementation of the model code of conduct (MCC) for municipal elections led to a temporary halt. The repair work — costing Rs 8.10 crore — was finally allotted in April this year, even as administrative approval was granted for it earlier. The urgency of the situation was highlighted after an accident took place on the stretch in Dec, resulting in the death of a motorcyclist who lost control of his vehicle after hitting a pothole. Following the accident, the traffic police formally requested GMDA to carry out immediate repairs citing safety concerns. The other key stretch — linking Dwarka Expressway to IMT Manesar — covers sectors such as 84–88, 85–89, 86–90, and 87–91. Originally laid down more than a decade ago by HSVP, the road has since developed several potholes. GMDA began upgradation work on this corridor in Feb this year. The Rs 49.9 crore project includes strengthening the existing six-lane master road, constructing service roads, cycle tracks, and footpaths, and installing safety infrastructure like road studs, solar cat eyes, directional and hazard signages, and median markers. The project, which received approval in Jan 2023, faced multiple delays. Though tenders were floated in June last year, the imposition of MCC for the state assembly elections delayed financial clearance for it. It wasn't until Nov 2024 that govt funding was approved, allowing work to begin this year. "Repair work on key master roads in old and new Gurgaon is in progress. Around 64km of road infrastructure in the city is undergoing upgradation. Additionally, the development of service roads in sectors 58–67 is also in progress. While the overall Dwarka Expressway–Manesar project will continue till 2026, the two stretched have been prioritised. We aim to complete the SPR repair ahead of the stipulated timeline and make the Dwarka Expressway–Manesar stretch motorable by June 15," said a senior GMDA official.
