Jagtial District Transport Officer, driver in Telangana ACB net

Telangana Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested the district transport officer (DTO) and his personal driver in Jagtial district for demanding and accepting a bribe from a complainant in exchange for an official favour. The accused officer, identified as Banoth Bhadru Naik, posted as the DTO in Jagtial, allegedly received a bribe of ₹22,000 through his personal driver, Banoth Aravind. The bribe was demanded to avoid booking a case against the complainant, to prevent the imposition of a fine on his earth mover, and to ensure the release of the complainant's mobile phones. According to ACB officials, the tainted amount of ₹22,000 was recovered from the possession of the driver, Aravind. Investigation revealed that the officer had initially demanded a bribe of ₹40,000, later reducing it to ₹35,000. Out of this, ₹13,000 had already been paid on August 4 as an initial instalment. The remaining ₹22,000 was handed over on August 6 through the private driver, leading to the case. Both the officer and the driver have been arrested and produced before the special court for SPE and ACB cases in Karimnagar. Further investigation is underway. ACB's phone number to complaint about demand for bribes The ACB has urged the public to report any demand for bribe by public servants by calling the toll-free number 1064. Citizens can also reach out through WhatsApp on 9440446106, or via the ACB's official handles on Facebook and X (formerly Twitter). The bureau has assured that the identity of the complainant will be protected.

Transport dept mandates mobile number update on RC and DL

The state transport department on Tuesday issued a directive mandating all vehicle owners to update their cellphone numbers on their registration certificates (RC) and driving licences (DL) to improve transparency and streamline vehicle-related services . Authorities have warned that failure to comply may result in challans (fines). According to recent data released by the Patna district transport office (DTO), as many as 6,13,929 vehicles in the district currently do not have cellphone numbers linked to their RCs. This has become a major concern, as e-challans for traffic violations often fail to reach vehicle owners, causing delays in fine payments and leading to the accumulation of penalties. Upendra Kumar Pal, an official from the Patna DTO, stressed the importance of linking mobile numbers to vehicle documents. "Once updated, the vehicle owners will receive timely and essential information regarding pollution certificates, vehicle tax, insurance renewals and challans directly on their registered mobile numbers," he said. He urged all vehicle owners to update their contact details without delay. "It is a very simple three-step process. First, open the Vahan 4.0 (Citizens Services) website online – two QR codes will pop up. Second, scan the Vahan QR code to update the mobile number on the RC or scan the Sarathi QR code to update the phone number on the DL. Thirdly, add in all required details and the mobile number will be updated immediately." He added that the update can also be completed by visiting the nearest DTO. A key requirement of the directive is that the mobile number must be linked to the owner's Aadhaar card. This is intended to minimise errors and avoid the misdirection of challans due to outdated or incorrect contact information. The department also clarified that if there is any mismatch between the Aadhaar card and the RC details, the person must visit the DTO office to correct the discrepancy. The ministry of road transport and highways (MoRTH) has given vehicle owners three months to comply with the new mandate. Officials said the initiative was part of the broader effort to modernise and digitise vehicle-related services, ultimately making the system faster, more efficient and less prone to error.

Rs2.3cr scam detected at Sasaram DTO office, 4 booked

S asaram: A financial scam amounting to Rs 2.30 crore has been uncovered at the district transport office (DTO) in Sasaram, exposing serious lapses in financial accountability. Four staff members have been booked for allegedly misappropriating govt revenue collected through motor vehicle taxes and e-challan payments. According to officials, between the financial years 2021 and 2025, the accused failed to deposit Rs 1.75 crore collected as motor vehicle tax and Rs 55 lakh from e-challan fines into the govt treasury. The funds were allegedly diverted for personal use. The irregularities came to light during an internal audit, prompting district transport officer (DTO) Ram Babu to lodge a formal complaint at the Sasaram town police station. All four employees have been named in the FIR. The accused include Ajay Kumar Singh and Akshay Kumar, both responsible for handling motor vehicle tax collections. They allegedly withheld Rs 1.75 crore from the public exchequer. Programmer Anil Kumar and a data entry operator — also named Anil Kumar — are accused of not depositing Rs 55 lakh collected through e-challans. Calling the incident a serious breach of financial discipline, DTO Ram Babu said, "The funds were collected from citizens but were never credited to the govt's account." by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like TV providers are furious: this gadget gives you access to all channels Techno Mag Learn More Undo Following the FIR, local police visited the transport office and initiated a detailed investigation.
