Art and Wine walk in downtown Sioux Falls

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — Downtown Sioux Falls is showing off its artistic side. It's a relatively quiet Friday morning as downtown Sioux Falls braces for a busy night with the Spring Art & Wine Walk. Chris Reder resigns from House seat 'Art & Wine Walk is an event that downtown Sioux Falls puts on twice a year. We partner local retailers with local artists and we provide wine for the guests to sip and sample,' DTSF Marketing Manager Jeb Cooper said. The event is free to attend, with a wine punch card available for purchase at many of the 38 participating businesses. 'We generally see the traditional painters, some sculptors, a lot of pottery recently, but there's also live musicians, and there's also some cooking classes,' Cooper said. 'I love getting people into the gallery that don't maybe frequent the arts, but you get to see that little spark,' Rehfelds Modern Fine Art & Framing Gallery Director Alix Kyrie said. Kyrie is the gallery director at Rehfelds, where they're featuring a sculptor from Colorado and a painter from California, but each is originally from South Dakota. It's just a sampling of what the city has to offer. 'It's a really great time of year for arts. We're celebrating the Levitt announcing their season, SculptureWalk's going up, and we have Art & Wine Walk so it's just a great time for us to celebrate the arts downtown,' Kyrie said. The Art & Wine Walk also has an outdoor option, a new initiative called Open Streets, and this month it's on Phillips Avenue between 9th and 10th Streets. 'Downtown Sioux Falls is opening sections of Phillips Avenue on the first Friday of every month through May, June, July, and August to really activate to just activate and really bring the community together and to re-envision what streets could be. They're not just for cars but people as well,' Cooper said. And this month, don't forget the art and wine. The Art & Wine Walk is Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. in downtown Sioux Falls. The wine sampling punch cards are available for purchase at 'Open Streets' or participating businesses. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Which drinks brought home the gold in Mash Madness

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — The numbers are in from Mash Madness, which had 30 drinks competing across 3 categories. People sipped and savored over 7,500 drinks during this year's Mash Madness. DTSF's Restaurant Week will have a taste of SD 'We saw a lot more people participating. Both our member base and the businesses, but also, you know, more participants and more people trying to drink. So it was really fun to see,' DTSF marketing manager Jeb Cooper said. Instead of just beer this year, the contest added 2 new categories: craft cocktail, a non-alcoholic and coffee section. 'Adding on the cocktail and the NA, we saw great numbers,' Cooper said. 'We will likely see it just grow bigger and bigger as most events do as they get older.' The winner of the craft cocktail section was Lucky's, with their Key Lime Pie-jito. They were trailing in the competition until the final day. 'We're not necessarily on the top of anybody's list when it comes to making cocktails, especially craft cocktails,' Lucky's Bar Supervisor Avery Baker said. 'I'm glad that I could kind of open that door for us and show people that we're, we're capable of a lot more than doing a Captain and Coke or vodka Redbull.' Perch took home the trophy in the non-alcoholic and coffee category with their Pandan Cloud. It is just one of the titles Perch has taken home in 2025. 'We've had a great year. Third in Burger battle. We got, first in March Madness, and we just opened in June. So we're, like, just riding the waves right now,' Perch's Front House Manager Rachel Begeman said. In the long standing beer bracket, Remedy Brewing Co. won for the first time with their Huckleberry Heaven brew. No prison yet, but $50M has already been spent 'Whatever the case, it definitely drove some traffic for us downtown. Obviously, we saw quite a number of just sales of that beer specifically. So it seemed like quite a few people were here just to try it for Mash Madness,' Remedy's Head Brewer Tyler Wasberg said. Over $62,000 was spent on this year's drinks, with an economic impact of nearly $290,000. You can order the drinks at Perch and Lucky's while supplies last, but Remedy has sold out of its brew. A March shopping event to support 14 local businesses

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) – If you're looking for something to do in between Summit League games or just on our nicer March weekends, multiple local businesses have come together for a shopping event. Seasoned Style on the corner of 10th Street and Walts Avenue in Sioux Falls is just one of 14 stores customers can check out this month for a March Madness Shop Hop. DTSF offering free rides to Summit League Tournament 'As a retailer, I have noticed that not only have sales been down recently but also just traffic in general has been down,' Christi Petersen, owner of Seasoned Style, said. 'So, I was trying to think of some ways to build up some excitement and maybe get some foot traffic. So, I thought of the Shop Hop adventure so that everybody has an experience to do while they're out shopping.'Participating in the Shop Hop is simple — all you have to do is visit the 14 stores, get the card stamped at each and then bring it back for a chance to win a grand prize. 'You don't have to have a purchase to get the stamp,' Petersen said. 'We just really want you to visit all the locations. They're all around Sioux Falls, some in Hartford, some in Harrisburg.'At Seasoned Style you can find vintage home decor and furniture, but there is a wide range of offerings between all of the participating Shop Hop stores. 'There's some clothing boutiques, some gift boutiques, home decor stores, bakeries. We have a wellness, like a juice bar, so all different types of businesses for you to explore,' Petersen said. AMC Collective along Minnesota Avenue is also on the list.'AMC Collective is a marketplace for artists, makers and crafters to sell their items. So, it's kind of like a year-round craft show,' Carrie Thompson, owner of AMC Collective, said. Both Petersen and Thompson hope the Shop Hop allows customers to experience something new. 'Just find the new little hidden gems. See all the different things that maybe you didn't know were around and just check out different stores,' Thompson said. When you get a punch card all filled out, you can return it to any of the participating stores to be entered into the drawing for the grand prize, which Petersen says includes something from each of the 14 stores. How a restaurant prepares for tournament time

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — The month of March is here and with it comes an exciting time for basketball fans. The Summit League Basketball Championships begin Wednesday in Sioux Falls. DTSF offering free rides to Summit League Tournament The Crooked Pint is expecting a busy week ahead. The restaurant, connected to a hotel, is near the PREMIER Center where all the Summit League basketball action will take place. General manager Krissy Yerigan says extra staff will be on hand as more people stop in for a bite to eat. 'You never know when it's going to hit, so we just like to be prepared,' Yerigan said. The restaurant is also making sure there's plenty of food and drinks to serve customers. 'Extra hamburger buns, extra hamburgers, the patties, and our liquor and beer order is pretty significant, especially with the beer and liquor because we only get that once a week, so we don't want to run out,' Yerigan said. Experience Sioux Falls CEO Teri Schmidt is expecting thousands to travel to Sioux Falls for the tournaments, but just how big that number gets depends on different factors. 'Weather, when they're teams play, can they get away. Some years we've had more than others. It just depends on so many factors, but we know we will have some good crowds,' Schmidt said. And Yerigan welcomes the crowds. 'I thrive on the busyness, and it makes your day go fast, and it keeps things interesting,' Yerigan said. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
