Jim Gavin rules out intercounty return and gives update on new rule changes
FORMER DUBLIN MANAGER Jim Gavin has said he will not return to manage a county side again under the new rules that he has helped to introduce to Gaelic football. The chairman of the Football Review Committee told RTÉ's Joanne Cantwell before today's All-Ireland final that 'intercounty is finished for me'. Advertisement 'I had a great time. I did 13 years, six with the 21s and seven with the senior team. I've got a very busy job. I had a great time and great players to work with. So intercounty, no, at club level absolutely, with my son's teams I still want to be involved as long as he wants me involved.' Gavin also said further rule tweaks are being considered. These include another look at the four-point goal which was shelved earlier this year. He also raised the possibility of a rule similar to basketball's backcourt violation, which could curtail lateral play and make ball retention by a winning side late in a game more challenging. More from Jim Gavin with some fascinating updates on the rule changes 📺 📱 📻 — The Sunday Game (@TheSundayGame) July 27, 2025 Gavin said a sandbox will take place on Wednesday night at 7.30pm at Abbotstown between his own club, Round Towers of Clondalkin and Fingallians from Swords. On the backcourt violation, Gavin said: 'Some suggestions have been that if a team crosses the halfway line that they can't go back. So, look at Louth [late] in the Leinster final against Meath where they brought the ball back into their own half. Some suggestions are that it might encourage teams to push out if a team can't go back into its own half.'

‘A fair question' – Niall O Ceallachain admits Dublin GAA ‘proven wrong' in hammering against Cork but defends approach
DUBLIN boss Niall Ó Ceallacháin vowed to take the criticism on the chin after a Cork goal blitz killed their hopes of reaching the All-Ireland SHC final. 'Did we set up right at the back? I'm sure that question is going to come. 'We found it very hard for long periods in that second half. I thought we showed a bit of fight to get back into it but it felt like each time we did, there was a sucker-punch of a goal.' I'll tell you straight out that we intentionally didn't. 'I've been proven wrong now so I can be fairly criticised, but the way we see it is there's just no point in going with a zonal back six against a team like 'Is it a risky set-up? It absolutely is. Should I be criticised? Absolutely. It didn't work . They were very sharp and they were excellent. But what I would say is with the alternative, you won't lose by 20 points but you will lose the game.' We can be fairly criticised now that we didn't follow up two weeks later. We have to be better.'

Dublin GAA discover outcome of Chris Crummey appeal after red card in win over Limerick put All-Ireland semi in doubt
DUBLIN have failed in their bid to have captain Chris Crummey available for their All-Ireland SHC semi-final against Cork. The Lucan Sarsfields half-back was red-carded for a 15th- minute challenge on the Treaty's Gearóid Hegarty in In an effort to clear Crummey to face the Rebels on Saturday week, his case was taken to the Central Hearings Committee. But a one-match suspension is to be served after the CHC found that ref Liam Gordon made the correct call in dismissing the All-Star nominee, who was charged with striking with the elbow with minimal force. Crummey can now consider bringing the matter to the Central Appeals Committee in a last-ditch attempt to be eligible to play a part in Dublin's quest to reach a first All-Ireland hurling final since 1951. 1 Chris Crummey was sent off against Limerick Credit: Ramsey Cardy/Sportsfile
