Daily commuters push for concessional pass & toll exemption on Dwarka eway

Gurgaon: Even before toll collection begins on the Dwarka Expressway, residents living along the high-speed corridor have started pressing for relief, citing inadequate infrastructure and lack of public transport. In a representation to the NHAI chairman, Dwarka Expressway Gurugram Development Association (DXP-GDA) — a citizen group — has urged NHAI to either exempt local private vehicles from the toll or introduce a concessional pass for daily commuters. The association argues the proposed Rs 3,000 annual pass, which will be available from Aug 15, allowing only 200 toll trips per vehicle, is "grossly inadequate" for residents who cross the toll plaza multiple times a day for work, school or accessing the metro. Add school drops, metro pickups and emergencies and the 200-crossing limit is exhausted in just three-four months. After that, residents are forced to pay the full toll multiple times a day," DXP-GDA's deputy convener Sunil Sareen said. The residents have urged the NHAI to exempt toll for those residing within 20 km of the toll plaza using private vehicles, as allowed under a 20-kilometre local concession rule issued by the ministry of road transport and highways (MoRTH), or implement an unlimited concessional pass for a nominal fee, akin to monthly public transport passes. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like This Is Why Smart People Always Keep Baking Soda At Home Read More Undo A senior NHAI official, when contacted, told TOI that the proposal for toll collection was submitted to the ministry and a gazette notification is awaited. "Any exemption will be as per categories notified by the ministry. Until the notification is issued, nothing more can be said," the official said. Residents argue they are already bearing the cost of urban infrastructure through hefty external development charges and infrastructure development charges, stamp duty and property taxes.
