Janhvi Kapoor hits back at trolls after being slammed for viral Dahi Handi video: ‘Roz bolungi Bharat Mata ki jai'
Last weekend was an extra special one for the people of our country. After celebrating India's 79th Independence Day on Friday, August 15, many families began preparations for Krishna Janmashtami on Saturday, August 16. On the special occasion, ahead of her film Param Sundari's release, Bollywood actor Janhvi Kapoor graced a Dahi Handi event in Mumbai. This time she was not accompanied by her co-star Sidharth Malhotra. A video from the event soon went viral where Janhvi loudly said 'Bharat Mata Ki Jai' into the mic while breaking the Handi. She was brutally trolled for the same. But the actor has now shared a clarification. Janhvi Kapoor at Dahi Handi event When Janhvi Kapoor said 'Bharat Mata Ki Jai' while breaking the Dahi Handi, several netizens slammed her on social media. One such internet user stated, '15 August kal that didi..🤷♂️ Aaj Dahi handi hai, Kishan Kanhaiya ki Jay to bolti🤦♂️,' whereas another netizen wrote, 'Dahi handi k event pe isko bharat mata k jai yaad aa rahi😂😂.' Another comment read, 'Dhai handi ka bhart maata se ky lena dena 😂😂😂.' Last night, Janhvi took to her Instagram stories to share the complete video. In this clip, BJP MLA Ram Kadam first chanted 'Bharat Mata Ki Jai' and Janhvi proceeded to join him. Janhvi Kapoor's Instagram story Along with this video, Janhvi shared, 'Just for context full video lol. Unke bolne ke baad nahi bolti toh problem, aur bolo toh bhi video ko kaat ke meme material. (laughing emoji) Waise sirf Janmashtami ke din nahi, roz bolungi Bharat mata ki jaiiiii. (If I didn't say it after they did, that would've been a problem. And if I do say it, the video gets edited and turned into meme material. By the way, not just on Janmashtami — I'll say Bharat Mata Ki Jai every single day).' So there we have it. While trolls continue trolling, fans are now looking forward to witnessing Janhvi as Sundari from Kerala and Sidharth as Delhi's Param in Param Sundari on August 29.

11-yr-old falls during Handi practice, dies
Mumbai: An 11-year-old boy died after falling off the 6th tier of a Dahi Handi pyramid during a practice session in Dahisar (E) late on Sunday, reports Nitasha Natu. The incident occurred days before the Janmashtami festival on Aug 15, plunging the neighbourhood into gloom. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now An FIR was registered against the Dahi Handi mandal president for negligence. Under state govt guidelines, children below 14 years of age are not allowed to participate in pyramids. Mahesh Jadhav was the oldest son of migrant labourers from Karnataka. For the last 3-4 years, he was linked with Nav Tarun Mitra Mandal. At the practice session, he was at a considerable height when he lost his balance and fell directly to the ground, suffering head injuries. An 11-year-old boy, Mahesh Jadhav, fell to his death from a Dahi handi pyramid on Sunday when the group's members got together for a practice session at Ketkipada, Dahisar (East). He fell directly from the 6th layer with not enough people in the pyramid below him and suffered severe head injuries due to the fall — which occurred around 9.40 pm — and lost consciousness. "The other members of the mandal rushed him to a private hospital in Dahisar where he succumbed to his injuries. His parents were home at the time of the incident and rushed to the hospital when they learnt of what had happened," said a local resident. "No safety equipment such as helmets or safety belts were provided to the child. Besides, no precautionary measures such as using ropes or mattresses were taken by the mandal before Jadhav was hoisted up to the sixth layer of the human pyramid. Based on a statement given by Jadhav's mother, Sangeeta, we have registered an FIR under sections 106 (1) and 223 of Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita for 'causing death by negligence' and 'ignoring a legally issued public order' against the mandal president, Balaji Surnar," said a senior police official. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now No arrest has been made so far. Jadhav is survived by his parents and three younger siblings. The family resides at Dharakhadi in Dahisar and are not in a good state financially. Jadhav had not been enrolled in school. An autopsy examination was performed at the Borivli post-mortem centre on Monday, before the body was handed over to Jadhav's parents. Despite legal directives and safety guidelines, enforcement of rules on Dahi Handi pyramids has been patchy. Reports reveal that many mandals still neglect proper safety equipment, raising fresh concerns especially ahead of the festival. AI representation photo

Mumbai University postpones exams post declaration of public holiday by govt on Narali Purnima
As the Maharashtra Government declared Narali Purnima a pubic holiday, Mumbai University has postponed all exams which were scheduled on Friday (August 8) causing chaos among students. Narali Purnima is a festival primarily celebrated by fishing communities. The decision was announced via a government circular issued on August 7, following which a separate notice was issued by Dr. Pooja Raundale, Director of the Board of Examinations and Evaluation of Mumbai University declaring that all exams scheduled on this day are postponed. Revised dates will be announced later. This is applicable to exams held by all the affiliated colleges as well as by the Centre for Distance and Open Education (CDOE, formerly IDOL), varsity's distance education wing. According to information shared by Mumbai University, as per the original timetable, Pharmacy and M. Ed exams were scheduled in the morning session, while MA and M. Com exams were to be held in the afternoon session. Disappointed with last minute change, one of the students said, 'This is absolutely unprofessional to declare public holidays at the last minute. University should have communicated to the state government that exams are planned on this day.' While most students complained that these aspects should have been taken into consideration before declaring holiday, another student said, 'This is no natural calamity to cancel exams. University should have continued with the exam timetable declared well in advance, much before the public holiday decision declared on Thursday.' There are many students in the CDOE who are working professionals or outstation students who had planned for their exams as per the schedule declared two weeks ago. The circular issued by Maharashtra government on Thursday declared two new public holidays for Mumbai city and suburbs – Narali Pournima on August 8 and Jyeshta Gauri Visarjan (popularly known as Gauri-Ganpati Visarjan) on September 2. According to the circular, these new public holidays are declared after cancelling existing public holidays Dahihandi (August 16) and Anant Chaturdashi (September 6). Both these holidays were falling on Saturdays following which there was a demand for alternate public holidays in the same months hence the two new public holidays are declared for Mumbai city and suburbs.
