Two men have been fined after they were found guilty of hare coursing in Lincolnshire. Edward Connors, 24, and Jerry Connors, 19, both of Rectory Lane, Woodmansterne, Banstead, Surrey, were arrested and charged after an incident in Crowland in March 2023. The pair, and two others, were found guilty of hunting a wild mammal with dogs and trespass during a trial in December 2023. Warrants for their arrests were later issued and they were sentenced at Lincoln Magistrates' Court on 29 May. Lincolnshire Police said officers had been called out on Sunday 12 March 2023 to reports of four men hare coursing. Witnesses reported seeing the men walking across fields with one driving a blue Daihatsu Terios 4x4 through newly planted crops. Following a short chase, the four members of the group were arrested. Polokwane pastor to appear in court for fabricating carjacking story

Polokwane pastor to appear in court for fabricating carjacking story POLOKWANE – A 68-year-old pastor appeared before the Polokwane Magistrate's Court today (May 5) for allegedly furnishing false information to the police. According to the Limpopo police spokesperson Col Malesela Ledwaba, the pastor went to the Westenburg police station on Friday (May 2) to report a carjacking that allegedly occurred on the R37 road on April 11. 'The pastor claimed that at around 09:00 that morning, he had picked up two hitchhikers en route to Polokwane in a Daihatsu Terios and that the men hijacked him at gunpoint. He further alleged that the vehicle was later recovered along the R37 without a gearbox,' Ledwaba said. However, during the investigation, police discovered the vehicle had not been hijacked, but had rather broken down and was taken to a scrapyard in the Lebowakgomo policing area. 'An investigation was conducted and led the police to a scrapyard in Lebowakgomo. The owner of the scrapyard informed the police that the suspect requested the service of a tow truck after his car broke down because of gearbox failure,' he explained. Ledwaba added that the vehicle was driven by the pastor's personal driver and that the pastor had paid half the costs for the gearbox repair before it was stolen. 'The suspect later changed his tune to confirm that the carjacking never took place and he was arrested for furnishing false information,' he said. The acting provincial police commissioner Major General Samuel Manala commended the officers for their work. 'These kinds of false reports stretch our resources unnecessarily and deny real victims the prompt assistance they deserve,' he said. Pastor arrested for allegedly fabricating hijacking report

A 68-year-old pastor faces legal repercussions for fabricating a carjacking story, raising concerns about resource misuse in police investigations. In a shocking twist, a 68-year-old pastor has been arrested for allegedly fabricating a hijacking incident Limpopo police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba stated that on May 2, the 68-year-old pastor approached the Westenburg police station to report a hijacking incident that occurred along the R37 road. 'The suspect claimed that on 11 April 2025, at around 09:00, he was driving a Daihatsu Terios towards Polokwane when he picked up two hitchhikers who were headed in the same direction,' said Ledwaba. Ledwaba added that the pastor claimed he was hijacked at gunpoint by the two hitchhikers shortly after offering them a lift, and later found his vehicle abandoned along the R37 without its gearbox. According to Ledwaba, the investigation took police to a scrapyard in the Lebowakgomo policing area, where the owner contradicted the suspect's claims, stating that the pastor had asked for a tow truck after experiencing mechanical issues with his vehicle. 'The scrapyard owner informed police that the suspect had contacted him for towing services after his vehicle broke down due to gearbox issues,' he added. Investigations further revealed that the suspect was with his personal driver when the vehicle broke down. He had paid 50% of the repair cost for the gearbox before it was reportedly stolen. Ledwaba mentioned that when the 68-year-old pastor was confronted with the inconsistencies in his story, he eventually confessed that the hijacking had never taken place. 'The suspect changed the tune to confirm that the carjacking never took place, and he was arrested for furnishing false information,' he said. The 68-year-old pastor appeared before the Polokwane Magistrate's Court on 5 May, facing charges of providing false information to the police. The case has been postponed to May 22. Meanwhile, Acting Provincial Commissioner Major General Samuel Manala praised the police for their determination and commitment in pursuing the case. "These kind of false cases stretches the resources unnecessarily and in the process, the most deserving complaints are denied the opportunity to be attended to promptly." The Star [email protected]
