No stadium shows, but plenty of big concerts are coming to Jacksonville this summer
Change is coming this summer to Jacksonville's concert scene, but from the looks of it, the music will be excellent. There's a new venue in town. Five has opened in the former Sun-Ray Cinema space in Five Points, with room for 1,200 standing fans. Another is coming. The Ponte Vedra Concert Hall has been closed for more than a year and will reopen in August as an expanded venue with some permanent seating. When completed, it will be about the same size as Five, and it will be interesting to see how the venues compete for acts and for fans. A new nightclub, Decca Live, opened on Bay Street in downtown Jacksonville earlier this year and is regularly booking acts. Just down the street, the former Underbelly club has rebranded as The Albatross and has its own slate of shows. Daily's Place has a lighter-than-usual schedule this summer as construction begins on the adjacent EverBank Stadium. There's still no word on whether Daily's will operate at all next year, when crews remove the upper decks of the stadium, or the following year, when the stadium will be closed entirely while new decks are built. Even with all the changes, you shouldn't have to look too hard to find a show that suits your tastes. Beatlemaniac? Ringo Starr's playing. Pre-schooler? Kidz Bop is coming. Southern rocker? Molly Hatchet's doing a hometown show at the Florida Theatre. Country? Choose between Shania Twain, Brad Paisley, Riley Green or Red Clay Strays. Heart is coming, and so is a Heartbreaker. Lil Poppa and Lil Duval all have shows on the books, as do Lil Baby, Da Baby and Skilla Baby. Jazz fans will dig Postmodern Jukebox, hip-hoppers will flock to shows by Ice Cube and Jeezy, and folks looking for a laugh have Nate Bargatze and Nikki Glaser. All Elite Wrestling Announces Date And New Location For AEW All Out 2025
AEW All Out is heading North. The 2025 event will mark the second time All Out will take place outside of Illinois. Five of the first six All Out events took place in Chicago and Hoffman Estates, Illinois. Jacksonville's Daily's Place hosted the 2020 event due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Advertisement This marks the second AEW pay-per-view at Scotiabank Arena, and the first time since AEW/NJPW Forbidden Door 2023. AEW has hosted various television events in Toronto (and across Canada since then), but this is the first AEW event in Canada since the March 20, 2024 episode of Dynamite taped at the Coca-Cola Coliseum. Despite being held in a new country, AEW All Out will remain a September event, as it has since 2020. However, it will no longer be hosted on Labor Day weekend. The move to late September also gives more room between All Out and the All In Texas, which is now being held in July rather than late August. When do AEW All Out tickets go on sale? Tony Khan Confirms Fan Backlash Led To This Immediate Change On AEW Dynamite
Tony Khan responds to fan backlash by restoring Mina Shirakawa's original theme song on AEW Dynamite. After announcing her departure from STARDOM in March, Mina Shirakawa confirmed she was joining AEW. She made her debut on AEW Dynamite in a Women's World Championship Eliminator Match featuring Toni Storm, Skye Blue, and AZM. Advertisement Shirakawa immediately made her presence felt by pinning Toni Storm with a small package, earning a shocking victory over the champion. That win secured her a future title opportunity at AEW Double or Nothing. Mina Shirakawa made a huge impact on her AEW debut, but the night wasn't without some controversy. During her entrance, Shirakawa introduced a new theme song, which received negative feedback from fans online. Interestingly, after her victory, AEW played her original theme music instead. Following the backlash, AEW President Tony Khan responded to the criticism and decided to reinstate Shirakawa's original entrance music. He confirmed the change on X formerly known as Twitter, addressing the fan reactions directly. Tony Khan on how Daily's Place has inspired AEW running more intimate venues In an interview with Battleground Podcast, Tony Khan was asked about the company running weekly TV in smaller venues in recent months, Khan explained how running Daily's Place has inspired the company to check out other unique venues for Dynamite and Collision across the country. 'Well, I think it just depends on the venue,' Tony Khan admitted. Advertisement 'And I think for the pay-per-views, packing it in and bringing in 10, 12,000 fans, sometimes more. Even the world attendance record we set in Wembley Stadium, over 81,000 tickets sold for AEW All In London. 'These are great venues, great events. But it's also great to see wrestling presented as we've been doing it on TV in recent months, in some of these great theaters and amphitheaters. AEW is primarily our TV has been known for a lot of great wrestling, a lot of great wrestlers because AEW is where the best wrestle, but the venue that's probably most associated with AEW television is Daily's Place, which is an amphitheater.
