TXT renews record in Japan with 4th LP

Tomorrow X Together scored the top spot on Oricon's Weekly Album Ranking with its fourth studio album 'The Star Chapter: Together,' according to the chart published on Tuesday. The album sold over 304,000 copies in the first week in Japan, surpassing its second LP in Japan, 'Sweet,' which notched the No. 1 spot on Oricon's Daily Album Ranking three times. With the new LP, the band has placed 12 consecutive albums atop the weekly chart, renewing the record it holds for the chart-topping streak for an international artist. The fourth LP is the second and final installment of its 'Star Chapter' series. It sold over 1.76 million copies worldwide in the first week and became the band's sixth million-selling album.

Ive drops prerelease from Japan album

Ive has unveiled the focus single from its upcoming album in Japan with a music video, agency Starship Entertainment said Friday. The group of six uploaded the video for 'Be Alright,' which fronts its third EP of the same title. Opening with Rei asleep at her desk, the other members appear one by one to pick out clothes for, and support her at an interview before dancing together at her house, savoring freedom. The single encourages listeners to keep on going instead of being afraid of changes telling them they are not alone. The new Japan mini album will be released on July 30, almost a year after Ive's second EP 'Alive,' which debuted atop Oricon's Daily Album Ranking. In April, the group dropped another track from the third EP, 'Dare Me,' as the opening theme song for a Japanese TV show.

The third EP from Illit debuted at No. 2 on Oricon's Daily Album Ranking, according to the chart published Wednesday. EP 'bomb' sold over 326,000 copies on the day of release, marking a new first-day sales record for Illit and raising expectations that the group will beat the first-week sales record set with its previous EP. Illit's second EP, 'I'll Like You,' sold more than 382,000 units in the period, surpassing the record it set with its debut EP, 'Super Real Me.' Meanwhile, the new EP's main track, 'Do the Dance,' entered Melon's Top 100 upon release, and all five tracks have taken over the top five spots on AWA Music's real-time chart in Japan.

Seventeen sets this year's first-week sales record

The fifth studio album from Seventeen sold the most copies in its first week of any K-pop album this year, said agency Pledis Entertainment on Monday. LP 'Happy Burstday' logged over 2.52 million units in the period, after exceeding 2 million on the day of release, also a first this year. The album topped a series of music charts abroad, including Oricon's Daily Album Ranking while main track 'Thunder' landed atop Melon's Top 100. The 16-track album does mark the band's 10th anniversary but is a 'bold claim that Seventeen isn't just celebrating the past but charging headfirst like a buffalo into a new territory,' wrote Billboard magazine. It is 'a stepping stone between the past and future, celebrating their growth over past decade and the transformation that's yet to come,' said NME magazine.

Boynextdoor marks career high with 4th EP

The fourth EP from BoyNextDoor sold over 1.16 million copies in the first week, hitting a new high for the rookie boy band, agency KOZ Entertainment said Tuesday, citing a local tally. The EP 'No Genre' exceeded 1 million in sales in five days, and became its second million-seller after its previous album '19.99.' The mini album topped Oricon's Daily Album Ranking for two days, debuting atop the chart as did its four previous endeavors — three EPs released in Korea as well as its debut physical single in Japan, 'And.' The new album cinched the No. 1 spot on the iTunes Top Albums Chart in seven regions while the main track 'I Feel Good' made Melon's Top 100, joining the digital single 'If I Say, I Love You' from January. In the meantime, a pop-up store in Seoul to mark the album's release is running until May 25.
