Daniel Ricciardo injured in dirt bike accident after rare public appearance

Daniel Ricciardo has reportedly been treated for a minor injury in hospital after a dirt bike accident in north Queensland. Just days after his first public appearance since leaving Formula 1, Ricciardo suffered a collarbone injury while riding through the Daintree National Forest, reports Planet F1. He is reported to have been in good spirits while being treated for the injury. Having lived a largely private life since his brutal F1 axing last year, Ricciardo was in Queensland for a real estate conference on the Gold Coast, spruiking a heavy beard. 'Well, I haven't been shaving my face,' he said. 'The beard is my comfort right now. 'This year has been a bit of self-exploration. I lived this crazy high-speed life for so long, and this year I've sat into a little bit of stillness. 'I've had a lot of time, I've done some hiking. I was in Alaska a few weeks ago and didn't get mauled by a grizzly, which was a bonus. 'I've been trying to figure out who I am other than this racecar driver. 'I've come to appreciate the little things more and the meaning of the importance of family and friends. 'I've always been driven, and that sometimes leads you to being selfish, so I'm trying to learn to be a bit more selfless and become a better listener.'

Daniel Ricciardo hospitalised after motorbike accident in Queensland

Australian motorsport star Daniel Ricciardo has been taken to hospital following a motorbike accident in Queensland. The former Formula 1 driver was riding through the Daintree when he reportedly came unstuck, Fox Sports, available on Kayo Sports, is the only place to watch every practice, qualifying session and race in the 2025 FIA Formula One World Championship™ LIVE in 4K. The eight-time Grand Prix winner reportedly suffered a collarbone injury, but it didn't wipe the smile off his face. 'While details are scant at present, Ricciardo is understood to have been in good spirits while being treated for his injury,' it said. The incident comes just days after his first public appearance since his axing from the Formula 1 grid. He opened up about his struggles post-F1 career, revealing he has had to find out who he is away from being a driver. Headlining Ray White's Connect conference on Monday, Ricciardo was asked by sports presenter Mel McLaughlin about life after F1, he said: 'Well, I haven't been shaving my face. The beard is my comfort right now. 'I had a fallout with my barber and then I lost my razor. It's been a tough six months.' He then got serious, saying he realised his drive for F1 success made him somewhat 'selfish' and, since being axed from Red Bull, has been working hard to find himself and focus on what really matters in life. 'I've lived this crazy, high-speed life for so long, and I just sat into a little bit of stillness. I suddenly wasn't always surrounded by a tonne of people giving their opinions and thoughts,' Ricciardo continued. 'I've had a lot of time, I've done some hiking. I was in Alaska a few weeks ago and didn't get mauled by a grizzly which was a bonus. 'I've been trying to figure out who I am other than this race car driver. 'I've come to appreciate the little things more and the meaning of the importance of family and friends. 'I've always been driven, and that sometimes leads you to being selfish, so I'm trying to learn to be a bit more selfless and become a better listener.' Ricciardo remains a hugely popular figure, but sounds resigned to the fact that his time on the F1 grid is over. Earlier this year, Ricciardo gave an emotional farewell to fans in the seventh season of Netflix's Drive to Survive. One of the original breakout stars of the documentary, he famously called Netflix a 'bunch of c****' in the first season, endearing himself to a whole new legion of F1 fans, particularly in America. Wearing casual clothes and sipping a glass of whisky, Ricciardo addressed his F1 axing, saying: 'This is it'. 'I never thought I would have this career. I never thought I'd be here, you know? That's the truth,' he said. 'Yes, my dream was to be world champion, and there were years along the way where I genuinely felt like it was gonna happen. 'I got close, that's OK. If I were a world champion sitting here today, would it change how I feel or how I view myself, or anything like that? I don't think so. 'Maybe my ego would be big. We don't want that. I have no regrets.' Ricciardo left the F1 grid with eight race wins, 32 podiums and three pole positions. He also twice finished on the season's podium in the Drivers' standings in 2014 and 2016.

Former F1 star Daniel Ricciardo hospitalised after dirt bike accident in Queensland

Former F1 star has reportedly been taken to hospital after a dirt bike accident in north Queensland. The eight-time grand prix winner was riding through Daintree National Forest when he suffered a collarbone injury, reports Planet F1. 'While details are scant at present, Ricciardo is understood to have been in good spirits while being treated for his injury,' the report said. Ricciardo was let go by Racing Bulls after the 2024 Singapore GP, with Red Bull's advisor Helmut Marko explaining that the Aussie was no longer showing the 'killer instinct' he had displayed earlier in his racing career. The 36-year-old is now enjoying time away from the sport and has revealed that he doesn't like to be reminded of his many racing achievements while at home. 'It's funny, I don't really like having my racing stuff in my house,' Ricciardo told Mel McLaughlin at Ray White's Connect Conference on Monday. 'If my parents have some of me in their house, that's fine. 'I'm still quite shy with some of the achievements.' The beloved Aussie also joked about why he was now sporting a thick beard. 'Well, I haven't been shaving my face,' he said. 'The beard is my comfort right now. 'I had a fallout with my barber and then I lost my razor. It's been a tough six months.' Ricciardo bid farewell to what he described as a 'wild and wonderful' career, having become one of the most popular drivers in the sport. But like many athletes, stepping away from the fast-paced, rock and roll lifestyle that is professional sport, Ricciardo explained he struggled to adjust to life away from the glitz and glamour of Formula One. 'I've lived this crazy, high-speed life for so long, and I just sat into a little bit of stillness,' Ricciardo explained. 'I suddenly wasn't always surrounded by a ton of people giving their opinions and thoughts.' After the rigours of being a professional racing driver had encompassed his life for so long, Ricciardo explained he was now doing a bit of soul searching in order to understand who he truly was, while also admitting he was learning to become more magnanimous. 'I've always been driven, and that sometimes leads you to being selfish, so I'm trying to learn to be a bit more selfless and become a better listener.'

Queensland inmate arrested after allegedly escaping from prison on tractor

A prisoner accused of escaping from a Far North Queensland prison on a tractor has been found in a small coastal community more than 100 kilometres away. Michael Graeme Rennie, 43, had been serving a six-year sentence at Mareeba's Lotus Glen Correctional Facility for serious assault, theft and burglary when he allegedly absconded on June 1. Police said Rennie was tracked to a bush camp at Cow Bay, north of Port Douglas. He has been charged with one count each of escaping lawful custody, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, and possession of dangerous drugs. Rennie is expected to appear in Cairns Magistrates Court later today. Detective Inspector Jason Chetham said Rennie was arrested without incident. "He was in the company of a 48-year-old woman from Rocky Point … we're talking with her," Inspector Chetham said. He said it was not clear how Rennie moved between the remote Mareeba location west of Cairns to Cow Bay in the Daintree, about 120 kilometres away. "We hopefully will piece that together," Inspector Chetham said. "We did know that he had a good deal of bushcraft, so that he'd likely to be off the grid somewhere … as you can imagine there's a lot of forestry up here." He said police were yet to locate the red tractor and that anyone with information should call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Wind and light showers forecast for Queensland this weekend

Queenslanders can expect winds and light showers this weekend, with strong wind warnings likely to keep boaties off the water north of K'gari. Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) community information officer Patch Clap said wind aside, it should be a "reasonably settled weekend" across the Sunshine State. He said there would be light showers in the eastern parts of the state and to the far north later on Friday and continuing over the weekend. "The usual sort of spots [will] all pick up [rain] … around the Daintree Coast and the Cassowary Coast, possible around the Central Coast around Mackay and around the Sunshine Coast as well and other parts of south-east Queensland," Mr Clap said. "Most parts of the Queensland coast might see some sort of light shower across the next few days." Mr Clap said there would be a gradual increase in maximum and minimum temperatures across most of the state. "We're talking about a couple of degrees here or there," he said. The BOM has issued a strong wind warning for Saturday for Torres Strait, Peninsula coast, Cooktown coast, Cairns coast, Townsville coast, Mackay coast and Capricornia coast. Parts of the North Gulf of Carpentaria could also see up to 25 knots offshore. "The same winds that are driving those showers onto much of the Queensland coast at times are also driving fairly widespread strong wind warnings," Mr Clap said. He said the south easterly winds were fresh along the whole Queensland coast for Saturday and Sunday. "So not the greatest conditions for those looking to get out on the waters," he said. Morning frost is expected to crunch the grass in Roma and Injune in the Maranoa and Warrego region tomorrow. Saturday is forecast to drop to 2 degrees Celsius in Roma and 2C in Injune. There will also be morning fog inland in south-eastern Queensland.
