Couple arrested after toddler suffers "severe injuries" set free on bail
A COUPLE arrested in connection with a toddler hospitalised with "severe injuries", have been released on police bail.
Police were called to Dairy Crest Drive in Newport, following a report of a child being taken to hospital in a "serious" condition on Friday (August 1).
Subsequent investigations led to the arrest of a 31-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman, both from Newport, on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.
They have since been released on conditional bail, pending further inquiries, until November 1.

"We want to reassure residents a dedicated team of officers is actively working to establish the full circumstances surrounding what happened."
A plea was also made to the public to refrain from speculating about the incident on social media, as this could interfere with the investigation.

"Speculation and the spread of rumours are not only unhelpful, but they can actively hinder the progress of our investigation."
