The NFL's 'Tush Push' decision will impact the Broncos this season

NFL owners have made a ruling on the Philadelphia Eagles' famous "Tush Push" play. The Eagles will continue to use the play in 2025 after owners ended up two votes short in a vote to ban the play on Wednesday. The final tally was 22 votes in favor of a ban and 10 against (a potential ban needed 24 votes to pass). Advertisement This ruling is notable to the Denver Broncos for two reasons. The first reason is that they are scheduled to go on the road to face the Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday, Oct. 5 in Week 5 of the 2025 NFL season (view the full schedule). The Broncos have one of the best defenses in the NFL, but Philadelphia has perfected a nearly unstoppable short-yardage play. Primarily using the tush push, the Eagles went 19-of-26 on fourth-down attempts (73.1%) in 2023. Last year, Philly converted 28-of-34 of tush push attempts. Quite an impressive record of success. The second reason is that the proposed rule called for banning any pushing or pulling of a teammate by offensive players. Remember when guard Dalton Risner swung running back Phillip Lindsay into the end zone? That would have been a penalty under the proposed ban. Advertisement Last season, running back Javonte Williams was pushed into the end zone by a host of teammates: That kind of play wouldn't be allowed, either. Those kinds of plays will remain legal for at least the 2025 season, though, as the tush push ban failed. The topic will undoubtedly be revisited in 2026. Denver is considered an early 4.5-point underdog against the Eagles in Week 5. Philly is entering the 2025 season as the NFL's defending Super Bowl champion. The Broncos got knocked out of the playoffs in the Wild Card round last season after reaching the postseason for the first time since 2015. Bengals contract news added cap space -- but will they use it?

Bengals contract news added cap space -- but will they use it? Good news: The Cincinnati Bengals created a little nest of cap space with the Zack Moss contract update. Not so great news: There's a chance the Bengals don't do anything with the new space. According to Over the Cap, the Bengals currently have roughly $25 million in free cap space. But whether that goes to some obvious remaining needs in the fallout of the NFL draft remains to be seen. The Bengals could, after all, go after popular fan favorites such as guards Dalton Risner or Brandon Scherff, or even safety Justin Simmons, who has publicly said he would like to play in Cincinnati. RELATED: 2025 NFL draft: RAS scores for new Bengals rookie class Or, the Bengals could sit on the money, eyeballing rollover cash toward next year's cap and some insurance-like room on the off chance they need to sign free agents later in the season due to injury, etc. -- the typical Bengals cap-room stuff. Using a little bit of the cash to go out and create even more competition on the interior offensive line, even after the addition of rookie Dylan Fairchild, would make sense. So would a safety like Simmons to push Geno Stone and Jordan Battle. But keep in mind that a signing doesn't have to happen immediately, either. It can easily happen between now and the summer, or even well into training camp. But the ample cap space is certainly right there for the spending. Dalton Risner Teases Potential Homecoming With Broncos

It's no secret that Denver Broncos general manager George Paton prioritizes the offensive and defensive lines. The trenches on both sides of the ball boast some of the best units in football, and it will remain that way as long as Paton is in charge. To continue this success, it's vital to have depth behind your high-end starters. While the Broncos will certainly supplement those positions in the draft, there are still NFL-caliber players that remain unsigned on the free agent market. Advertisement One of those players is guard Dalton Risner, Denver's former second-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. On a recent TikTok livestream, Risner spoke about his ongoing free agency and the teams that have been in contact with his representation. Minnesota Vikings guard Dalton Risner (66) blocks Seattle Seahawks defensive tackle Byron Murphy II (91) during the first half at Lumen Bisig-Imagn Images 'I'm not on a team right now,' Risner said. 'But I will be on a team soon. I could imagine. What do you guys think? Do you guys think it's the Minnesota Vikings? Do you guys think it's back to Denver? Do you guys think it's the Cincinnati Bengals? I don't know. I'm in talks with multiple teams, so we'll see what happens.' The Kansas State product spent the first four years of his career with Denver before landing with the Vikings for 2023 and 2024. Risner has started 81 games in his six-year career. Advertisement The Broncos aren't looking for immediate starters at guard. Last offseason, they re-signed Quinn Meinerz to a four-year $72 million contract extension and signed Ben Powers to a four-year $51.5 million contract. Regardless, having quality depth in the NFL is almost as important as having quality starters. Signing Risner would be a feel-good homecoming story, and also allow Denver to take some swings on other spots that need depth in the 2025 NFL Draft.
