Fever Coach Stephanie White Speaks Honestly After Trusted Veteran Plays 0 Minutes Against Sky
Fever Coach Stephanie White Speaks Honestly After Trusted Veteran Plays 0 Minutes Against Sky originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Indiana Fever made a roster move on Friday amid Caitlin Clark's extended injury absence. They signed forward Chloe Bibby on a seven-day contract. The 27-year-old made her Fever debut in Sunday's game against the Chicago Sky and responded with eight points, two rebounds, a block and two 3-pointers in 11 minutes off the bench. Also getting an extended run against the Sky was rookie Makayla Timpson, who logged a career-high 22 minutes of action in Indiana's 93-78 win over Chicago. The 6-foot-2 forward-center scored a career-high 14 points on 6-of-8 shooting, four rebounds and three steals in what was her best game with the Fever. Damiris Dantas Benched Against Sky The shift in rotation meant fewer minutes for veteran center Damiris Dantas. In fact, the 32-year-old center did not play in Sunday's win. This marked the second time this season Dantas logged zero minutes for an entire game. Fever coach Stephanie White was asked about this decision in her postgame press conference. The veteran coach was honest in her response. "More than anything, they were playing zone," White said. "Bringing in Chloe early and having four shooters around (Aliyah Boston) was important. '(Timpson), it was going with her early just to see what she could give us on the defensive end. I felt like they got too many easy looks. (Timpson's) versatility allows us to play her defensively in a different way than we can play (Dantas). "And they had it rolling in the first half, and so we just stayed with that eight or nine (players in the rotation) or however many they were." What Does This Mean for Dantas? It is worth noting that Dantas had been trending downward even before she was benched on Sunday. In the two contests preceding the Sky matchup, the veteran had played nine and two minutes, respectively. Prior to this recent drop in minutes, Dantas was a trusted rotation player for coach White. The Brazilian averaged 13.1 minutes off the bench in 18 games played, putting up 5.1 points and 2.6 rebounds per contest. Based on White's comments, it appears the decision to bench Dantas against the Sky was more situational move than predetermined plan. It will be interesting to see if Dantas logs any minutes on Wednesday against the Phoenix Mercury. Bibby's situation is also worth monitoring in terms of what the immediate future holds for Dantas. The Fever could potentially extend Bibby's seven-day deal, especially if she continues making as significant an impact as she did in the Sky game. ESPN proposes much-needed Indiana Fever trade deadline acquisition
As the WNBA's Aug. 7 trade deadline looms, ESPN shared moves it believes should be made throughout the league, including the Indiana Fever adding skill and scoring depth. In the article, ESPN proposes the Fever acquiring Dallas Wings forward Myisha Hines-Allen in exchange for center Damiris Dantas and a 2026 second-round pick. Here's what ESPN said about the proposed flip: After shooting 36% on 3s last season, split between the Mystics and Lynx, Hines-Allen is down to 30% this season. Since Hines-Allen is a career 35% shooter, improvement should be expected. Even that down season from Hines-Allen has been better beyond the arc than Dantas, shooting 26.5% (34% career but just 31% since 2021). As a third post behind starters Aliyah Boston and Natasha Howard, Hines-Allen should be an improvement. And with the Wings five games out of the eighth seed, getting anything in return would probably make this trade worth it. - Kevin Pelton, ESPN While Hines-Allen scored 7.8 points per game on 49.2% shooting from the field and 36% from 3-point territory last season in her combined stints with the Washington Mystics and Minnesota Lynx, she has taken a dip in those numbers this year as the eighth-year forward has shot just 46.7% from the field and 29.6% from 3-point territory for the lowly Wings. Given the Fever's need for another consistent scorer behind starters Kelsey Mitchell and Aliyah Boston with Caitlin Clark sidelined, Hines-Allen would be a significant improvement on the offensive end. Although Indiana has recently seen quality scoring depth off the bench from players like Lexie Hull, Sophie Cunningham, and Makayla Timpson, the team can ill-afford to be complacent as they make their second-half push towards the WNBA playoffs. As for who they would be giving up in the hypothetical transaction, the Fever send forward Damiris Dantas, who has served as a decent reserve player this season for Indiana. Despite missing time due to being named to Brazil's 2025 FIBA Women's AmeriCup roster this past June, Dantas has averaged 4.6 points per game on 33.3% shooting from the floor and 26.5% accuracy from long range in 20 games played. Fever Player on Temporary Leave Sends Tearful Message as She Returns to Indiana
Fever Player on Temporary Leave Sends Tearful Message as She Returns to Indiana originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Damiris Dantas' time away from the Indiana Fever did not end in an ideal manner. This, after Brazil suffered a heartbreaking loss to the United States in the 2025 FIBA Women's AmeriCup final on Sunday, 92-84, which was held in Santiago, Chile. Advertisement Dantas has been on temporary leave from the Fever amid her national team obligations, which officially came to an end on Sunday. Brazil went undefeated until the final, but they ultimately came up short against a powerhouse Team USA side. On Monday, Dantas took to Instagram to share a photo of herself inside a plane. The 6-foot-4 center-forward is now headed back to rejoin the Fever following her nearly two-week leave, and it appears that her picture was taken during her flight back to the United States. Dantas added a brief caption to her post. "The return will be long 🥹" she wrote, as translated from Portuguese to English by an AI tool. Advertisement Dantas appeared to be emotional as she posted her message, and the use of the teary-eyed emoji is a testament to this notion. This Instagram story also follows an earlier post where she made a painful admission about Brazil's loss in the tournament. Dantas was Brazil's driving force in the tournament. She averaged a tournament-best 21.4 points in seven games played, to go along with 6.0 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.6 triples per game. In the final on Sunday, the 32-year-old veteran dropped a tournament-high 35 points, which still proved insufficient to lead Brazil to victory. Indiana Fever Player Makes Painful Admission Amid Temporary Leave
Indiana Fever Player Makes Painful Admission Amid Temporary Leave originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Damiris Dantas is heading back to the Indiana Fever with a broken heart but with her head held up high. Advertisement On Sunday, Dantas and the Brazil National Team suffered a painful loss to the United States, 92,84, in the 2025 FIBA Women's AmeriCup final. It marked the first defeat of the entire tournament for Dantas and Co., but there's no denying that it came at the most inopportune time. Dantas, who has been on temporary leave from the Fever due to her international obligations, took to social media on Monday to share her honest reaction to the loss. "Not the result we wanted," Dantas started, as translated to English by Instagram. "The truth is, it's very difficult to digest so many emotions after not winning the final. Put a movie in your head, you know? Every effort, every workout, every sacrifice, every drop of sweat shed... And yet, sometimes the scoreboard doesn't reflect everything we put on the field." Indiana Fever forward Damiris Dantas (left) helped Brazil finish in second place at the FIBA Hollars/USA TODAY Network via Imagn Images Dantas went on to express her love to everyone who supported her and the team throughout the tournament. The 32-year-old veteran also sent a heartfelt message to her teammates on the national squad. Advertisement "I am genuinely proud of the delivery of this group," she continued. "Proud of the fight, the grit and the way each one gave until the last second. We gave it all we had, and even if the result we dreamed of did not come, I am sure that we are on the right path. "Defeats hurt, but they also teach. And I know that this group has the strength to get up, learn, and come back even stronger. Nobody lets go of anyone here." Dantas admitted that she's hurting right now, but the pain is somewhat alleviated by her pride in what they have accomplished, as well as what the future holds for Brazil. Fever Coach Stephanie White Expresses Uncertainty About Player on Temporary Leave
Fever Coach Stephanie White Expresses Uncertainty About Player on Temporary Leave originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Indiana Fever were shorthanded in their last game as they fell to the Los Angeles Sparks on Saturday, 89-87. Advertisement Caitlin Clark sat out for a fifth straight game due to a lingering groin injury, and there's no denying that the Fever felt her absence against L.A. Also out of the picture for Saturday's game was Damiris Dantas, who was with the Brazil National Team in Santiago, Chile, for the 2025 FIBA Women's AmeriCup. The tournament ended on Sunday, with Brazil suffering a heartbreaking 92-84 loss to the United States. Despite Dantas' 35-point explosion, Brazil still came up short against the Americans, who finished the tournament as undefeated champions. Dantas is now on her way back to rejoin the team after missing Indiana's last five games. This is a welcome development for the Fever, who are back in action on Wednesday against the Golden State Valkyries. Advertisement At this point, however, head coach Stephanie White remains uncertain as to when Dantas will be able to return to action. 'She was incredible, right?' White said on Monday, via Fieldhouse Files with Scott Agness. 'She needs some rest. I'm not sure when she'll be available." White hinted here that the Fever may opt to hold Dantas out upon her return. This is after the 32-year-old veteran played seven games in 10 days for Brazil, averaging 28.6 minutes per contest. As such, Dantas' status for the Valkyries game appears to be in doubt. Damiris Dantas of the Indiana Fever shoots the ball against the Seattle Storm. Christine Tannous/IndyStar / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images White, however, expressed optimism about Dantas' return, especially given its timing in relation to Clark's injury comeback. Advertisement "Hopefully, knock on wood, when DD gets back and she is available, this will be the first time that our full roster has been available," said White. 'And so for us reintegrating Caitlin, if we don't have any setbacks, and reintegrating DD. It changes what our rotation looks like, it changes what our lineup looks like. "It does give us a little bit more versatility. It's going to be a challenge, but also something that's necessary for us heading into this All-Star break.' Unfortunately, the Fever have yet to provide a firm timetable on Clark's return from injury. Based on White's comments, though, it seems that the 23-year-old is inching closer to her highly anticipated return to the court. Advertisement It is also worth noting that Clark participated in her first live 5-on-5 scrimmage with the team during Monday's practice since suffering the groin injury in late June. This is a significant step in the right direction for the reigning WNBA Rookie of the Year.
