Jennie Becomes The Most Successful Korean Artist In One Chart's History

Jennie debuts on the Hot R&B Songs chart with "Damn Right," becoming the only K-pop artist to earn ... More multiple hits on the genre-specific Billboard ranking. (Photo by Thibaud MORITZ / AFP) (Photo by THIBAUD MORITZ/AFP via Getty Images) Jennie is everywhere right now – or at least that's how it seems. The Blackpink member is enjoying one of the biggest weeks of her solo career, and it's all thanks to her brand new album, Ruby. Her name is spread across Billboard's rankings in the U.S. and around the world. Not only does she debut on several tallies, but she also manages to appear on a genre-specific list that rarely welcomes K-pop stars. As she arrives, she sets herself apart as the most successful act from South Korea in the history of that list. Jennie Debuts on Hot R&B Songs With 'Damn Right' 'Damn Right,' one of Jennie's just-released tracks, launches on the Hot R&B Songs chart this week. The tune opens at No. 24, giving the singer another win on a Billboard ranking that's typically dominated by American stars. The list, which measures the most-consumed R&B tracks in the U.S., combines sales, streams, and radio airplay — and it shows that Jennie is clearly reaching a wide audience. Jennie Scores Her Second R&B Hit This isn't the first time Jennie has reached the Hot R&B Songs list. In 2023, she made her debut on the roster as a featured artist on 'One of the Girls.' That single, crafted by The Weeknd for his TV show The Idol, saw the icon collaborating with both Jennie and Lily-Rose Depp. The track proved to be a substantial success, peaking at No. 4. Jennie Makes History Among K-Pop Artists With her second placement on the Hot R&B Songs chart, Jennie becomes the only K-pop act to reach the tally more than once. The only other South Korean artist to have appeared on the list is V, a member of BTS. He earned his first R&B hit when he teamed up with rising singer Umi on 'Wherever U R.' Jennie now holds the distinction of being the most successful K-pop musician on this chart, both in terms of the number of appearances and the peak position reached. Childish Gambino and Kali Uchis Help Jennie Land a Genre Win Jennie isn't alone on 'Damn Right.' The tune also credits Childish Gambino and Kali Uchis, two critically acclaimed artists who are firmly rooted in the R&B world. Their involvement adds genre credibility to her work, and it likely helped the song find an audience among fans of more traditional R&B. 'Damn Right' earns the highest debut on the Hot R&B Songs chart this week, even though it opens near the bottom. It sits above only one other new entry — 'Worst Behavior' by KWN and Kehlani, which lands in last place, at No. 25. 'Damn Right' Appears On Three Billboard Charts 'Damn Right' isn't just a U.S.-focused success. The single also finds room on a pair of worldwide rankings published by Billboard. The cut opens at No. 148 on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. and No. 182 on the Billboard Global 200. These lower-tier debuts come alongside a few other tracks from Jennie's new full-length Ruby, which are also scattered throughout the two international lists.
